Does anyone else out there wish more of the local shoots were held on Saturdays. I live in Eastern NC and most the shoots are held on Sundays. There isn't many traditional clubs in my area either but there are usually a small handful of trad guys that shoot. I would love to shoot more but my Sundays are normally spent in church. By the time I get out of church and travel an hour or so to get to a shoot, stand around and wait for compound shooters to let down a couple times before they shoot I can't make it home before the evening church service. Just wondering if anyone else shared this frustration. Paul<><
Yeah, I've had the same frustration with a LOT of different functions. I guess most figure there are more people off work on Sundays. Oh well, either way is our choice to make.
My club finally figured out a way to keep me out of the shoots. They schedule them on Saturdays now.
I work six days a week, there is no hunting on Sundays in Virginia, and now there is no local shoot on Sunday.
All I can do is work and walk my own trail, I guess. And they wonder why we climb towers.
Killdeer
I have the same thoughts, I go to weekend shoots and get there on a friday eve. shoot all I can and leave sat eve. if its compitition I never know who won or how I fared because I was not there on Sunday. But if I have to choose between church and shoots it will be chruch.
Our club sometimes has the course set on a Saturday so that if you are aware of it you are able to go and shoot. I'm in church also on Sunday.

Being an ex president of the local bowhunting club , I feel your pain . BUT we tried the Saturday shoots and too many people have to work on Saturday so we went back to Sunday shoots. Also parents of Ball players and ballerinas have those functions to go to . So go to church leave there and make the shoot, it's good fellowship!
Jack
i'll shoot with ya on a saturday paul. you just let me know when :readit: :archer2:
In my area there is a group of clubs, they get together and schedule shoots so one club is not shooting the same day.But then if you have a club shooting on saturday and another shooting on sunday. The club shooting on sunday would have a poor turn out because everyone shot on saturday and wouldn't go to the club that shot on sunday.I like sunday shoots because I always had to work on saturday.
All the local clubs within a 50 mile radius of me always have their shoots both days. Never been a problem for me.
Paul, I know it is a LONG drive for you but Carolina Traditional has a shoot the second Saturday of each month ...the exception is the state shoot is May 28, 29 and 30......go to "thecta.org" for info......
I feel ya brother.
Sometimes I can make shoot if I go straight from church.
QuoteAnd they wonder why we climb towers.
haha ... Nice one Killy....
Our local club tried Saturday shoots. Turnout was 30-40 percent less per shoot than those held on Sunday.
You also have to factor in set-up. Will anyone be available to set up Friday night?
The last shoot my Father in law was at, he and his friend found a couple of people and they had service at the shoot. Thats always a really good option
Here in Maine, most shoots are on Sundays. I choose church be cause God chose me.
Around here, very few bowhunters or archery enthusiasts ever go to church.
Moving to Western Kentucky in two weeks. Expect things will be different there.
I don't go to too many shoots but if they were all on Sunday's only I wouldn't go either. Church and family come first.
Sunday shoots only for me.
Work and home duties Saturdays.
Plus the 3 or 4 guys who do most of the work at many clubs need Saturday to prepare.
Paul,
I feel the same as you. Shoot all the Saturday shoots I can...Sunday I'll be at Church.
Our local club allows you to shoot either Sunday (where 90% of the people shoot) or after 3:00 P.M. on Saturday! Sometimes shooting the saturday evening is nice to get away from the crowd, but it seems like I usually shoot on Sunday so I can talk hunting to more of my buddies!
Our local club always had Sunday shoots and at the meetings when Saturdays were mentioned they said there wouldn't be a good enough turn out. We became officers in that club and for one year we had alternating shoots one wek Saturday and the next Sunday. We averaged 140 people per Saturday and 110 on Sunday. Once we left the club it went back to Sundays. Being a minister I only shoot Saturdays and they are very hard to find.
Our club and all the local clubs out west seem to always put two day shoots. We normally get better turn outs on Saturdays. More folk are in church on Sundays. This way everyone who wants to can shoot.
We have work parties on some Saturdays and the shoots on Sundays once a month. Works fine for us.
Start a Christian Bowhunters Chapter in your area. We have one in our area they shoot at a club once a month and have church services before the shoot. You can do both once a month.

Most shoots in the IA, IL, MO tri state area are on Sunday. They set them up on Sat, shoot Sunday and take them down Sunday afternoon.
There's one in IL that is Sat and Sunday. I always go to the Saturday shoot. The others I can get to if I go to Church early since they are about an hour from my home. I go straight from Church. I really prefer the Saturday shoot, however, since I like to take it easy on Sunday. Now this Sunday is Mother's day, and we have the Saturday shoot, so that will work out fine.

Craig, I like that idea. Taking a look at that link right now! Thanks.
I'm the archery chareman for a club and found that most clubs have shoots on Sunday for more funds (we have to answer to our club boards). Most people I know work on Saterdays so Sunday there is a bigger turn out.
However I do know it conflicts with Sunday service and after reading this thred like the idea of Saterday eves and Sunday. My course is set up and ready to roll so folks can get out of work on Sat afternoon and have a bit of fun with out conflicts with Sunday service.
I will present this idea at my next club meeting. Thanks
They will Jim, All our shoots are on Saturday's and/or both days. What part you moving to? Western Kentucky is an outdoorsmans paradise.
Alot of the 3d providers have switched to Saturday this year! They are doing really well from the looks of it!
Actually I am with Steve. We only had 2 or 3 people to help to set up and take down after the shoot. Most people work on Friday too, so set up is on Saturday. A lot of people work on Saturday, and can't make it until Sunday.
Well around here Sunday shoots don't get enough turnout to make them worth while. You won't get a 4th as many shooters on Sunday as you will on Saturday. That is why we stick to Saturdays with ours.
Besides by the time I setup and take down I need a day of rest to get over it. :D
