Anybody know of a good way of finding arrows that get buried under leaves. I was thinking of a metal detector that might pick up the arrow head. Ive been kicking leaves in my backyard trying to locate it, and i cant say that this method is working very well. :( :(
Ace arrow wrangler. Google it.
Killdeer
Thanks for the tip killdeer, i think ill try that.
I made one and they work good.
I've found enough through the years to pay for my $500.00 metal detector. I do use it for hunting other stuff also.

Rastaman if i lived in georgia id want to borrow that dog, or at least introduce my black lab to your dog to pick up some tips. :biglaugh:
Guy I know uses his metal detector after every
3D shoot and finds around 10 to 20 arrows for everybody. Wood, alum, and carbon.
If you ever can get your hands on a metal detector It will be worth the investment...I got one that I use very little but it does come in handy when you are done tearing up your lawn...Keep an eye out at yard sales, auctions and classifieds and you don't need an expensive one...
Go to your local paint shop and buy a 24 inch paint roller handle for a 4 inch roller. Good arrow finding hook.

I'm with rastaman I have a black lab named max that has saved me alot of money . He finds my arrows snaked up under grass or anything else and it comes natural for him.
My lab/weim mix is a master arrow finder. He goes on point whenever I draw and when I release, he's off like a flash. I've got to get him to stop tearing up the feathers, though. I have to refletch every time I take him with me.
He found a couple of cedar arrows I lost in the yard last fall. I took him to where I thought they might be and told him to "hunt up the arrow". Sure enough, after a minute or two, he starts pawing the ground. There they were.
Well i shoot aluminum arrows so this may work better for me than someone using wood arrows... but i have just a standard entry level radio shack metal detector.. and since i have been using it, i have recovered at least 10 arrows that would have otherwise been lost.. plus its very exciting after searching for an arrow for a half hour to finally hear a beeep..
this can beep out an arrow as long as its not under more than 4 to 5 inches of grass or leaves.
Rasta, I use my Britt the same way and she loves it!! LOL.
used to have a dog that would find them now I just use a metal detector
My dog is only good about 50% of the time. I've found an old ice axe works well. Use the pick side to quickly trench parallel lines perpendicular to suspected arrow path though ground. Other side works well to quickly clear leaves and such.
Take your shoes off... you can feel them with your feet easily.
Especially if there is a broadhead on it! :goldtooth:
Have never tired this but looks interesting. Nice thing is small enough to put in pocket, quiver or pouch.

I have a Rat Terrier finds them, barks at them, digs them out and eats them, Wood, Aluminum or Carbon. I will lend him out if you want.
A good stick with a hook of brass works better and cheaper.

3 Rivers sells a hook for finding arrows. Don't know if it works or not. Anyone ever tried it? Is this the same as the Arrow Wrangler, Killdeer?
thanks
