I said after the "MISS" it would be better with Cade calling for you.
The poor guy is so wiped out that he is having a hard time even telling the story.
Great job guys. Maybe I can borrow Cade to call for me next year.
Tim
Bout freekin time :bigsmyl:
Of course this is coming from a guy who hasn't had a shot at a turkey in 9 years. How old is Cade again?
Couldn't be happier for you two!
Sorry guys, but this whole weekend has been chaotic, add very little sleep....whoa!
This one is very, very special....I'll try to get to the good parts quickly and keep this a little short...I want to write something up and hopefully get it published so "we" can have something in print to help cherish this time together.
The morning started out like this after roosting 4 gobblers last evening and setting up about 100yds. from them....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cjeKHvSQ7c
I've never been more confident that we'd be "knee deep in gobblers" very quickly. But, this video was a sign of what was to come(not answering me).
They all flew down, and waited for the hen to come down. She did, they all left with hardly a glance! I couldn't believe it!
But I could hear all kind of gobbling going on in other parts of the orchard. Cade slept for about a half hour...
The set-up...
I woke him up and we packed up hoping to find some action on the other side of the orchard....
Duty calls, but I promise to finish this up tonight....lots of pix to share...
I wonder if my 30# string tracker was involved in the crime scene........give it up!
You bet buddy...hang on...
Are you kidding! Gonna leave us hanging like that?
Curt I bet that boy of yours will be a bowhunting machine in years to come. I ain't been around long but I've seen enough to know he can probably out shoot most of us here.
Congrats.
Ive been checking this thread since its been up. Cant wait for the photos and story!!! :)
:campfire:
OUTSTANDING Curt !!! Glad you and your son were able to share that special turkey hunt.
CONGRATS  :campfire: :clapper:
Guru you need some lessons from Charlie, he gives great linger lessons..lol
Congratulations!
God bless,Mudd
 :clapper: :clapper:
Guru and Cade congrates !!!!!!!!!!!
So we got the the other side of the orchard and had soon found a lonely, hard gobbling, all by himself, gobbler!
We actually had to back out some. loop around to get to where I hoped he might come to us. He was on an adjoining property, and across a creek. I've called birds across this creek before, but also had some hang up at it. We rolled the dice.....
I got everything set-up, ready to go, then left Cade for a minute to sneak 50yds closer to call to the gobbler to let him know we(a hen) was here... I called and he hammered right back, I called again and he hammered again...game on!
I explained to Cade about how good it is to find a lonely, looking for love single gobbler, but also explained about how the creek might be a problem...but I did say that I had a real good feeling he'd come.
After going back and forth several times, and about ten minutes of silence on our end and his, I had a strong feeling he was on his way.
I called and could immediately tell he'd crossed the creek and was now in the orchard right down the hill from us! This was getting good!!!
A couple minutes later I peeked out the back side of the blind and saw his red head peeking over the rise about 30yds. away. Cade couldn't see him yet. Things were getting real serious now...
He was looking real hard, but from where he was, couldn't see the dekes. I need him to get about 10yds. closer to see "Floyd" and his 2 girlfriends. I purred softly, he walked slowly toward us, but still behind us in a place I couldn't shoot even if he came close enough to shoot.
As he closed I could instantly tell when he saw "Floyd"...He puffed up and started strutting right at him!
I told Cade he'd be able to see him any second and to keep absolutely still, he knew that already though...
He walked right past a hen deke going straight to "Floyd" as they always do. I planned on letting him do a lap around "Floyd", and wait for a shot at his back. He walked a couple yards past "Floyd", in half strutt, quartering away...Green light!!!
When the arrow hit, I knew it was good! He raised his near wing and I could instantly see blood coming out!!
I quickly said to Cade..."we got him buddy, perfect shot!"
He flopped for about 15yds. and within seconds was still....
Huge hugs and kisses!! I actually had to stop myself from squeezing too hard....My goodness, it took 4 hunts, over three seasons, but we'd finally done it!! I'd finally had killed a gobbler while Cade was with me to see the whole thing....exciting beyond belief, for both of us!!!!!
A view to a kill...

Yes Joey, of course I had to include you in the hunt! Thanks again for the 30# spools bud!

great story, love it!
One of the best stories I've read on here, Curt & Cade! Way to go gentlemen!
CONGRATULATIONS Guys!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks to everyone for the kind words :notworthy:
I'm still "floatin'"....still no words to describe how good it felt/feels....
For anyone that was wondering, the gobbler was a lonely, eager, 2yr. old tom....7/8" spurs, 8 1/2" beard...perfect!
Before we even got out of the blind Cade asked if I'd mount the tail, beard, and spurs and put them in his room ;) That's my boy!
Charlie, you mentioned turning your B-Mobile into a jake...do it buddy!
I turned "Floyd" into a jake before last years season and have never used it as a big gobbler since.(although he worked very well as a mature gobbler)
I figure any big gobbler that sees it will still be ticked off enough to come and show him who's boss. Also being a jake, all the subordinate toms and jakes will find him a target for a butt-kickin'!
I've cut his beard, cut his snood down, added more bright red to his head, and gave him a jake-like tail with a really accentuated middle section so a gobbler can easily identify "Floyd" as a jake.
By the way this gobbler was a bird I saw for the first time last Friday. He was #8 in this particular orchard...We named him "Neight"
Thanks again everyone :notworthy:
Good work Curt and Cade!
Great Father and Son Team!
Thanks for the supportive words buddy! Mister Mobile gets demoted tomorrow. I've never had a good reaction to the "big gobbler" deke and really noticed it in Kansas this year and just last week here at home.
By the way. I think Cade has his head in the right place with wantin the turkey trophies in his room.
My granddaughter wants a lion (African type) in hers!
She just doesn't understand what that would take. I'm sure she'll settle for something more realistic.
Congrats Curt and Cade. I can't wait to take my son with me one day. Great story and pics.
Thanks for sharing.
Curt,
That is GREAT! We all know what the next step will be for that young man ;)
Congratulations! You are lucky man an so is your boy, Cade. Look forward to a story in TBM?
Congrats you guys :bigsmyl: :clapper: :clapper:

Great job Curt!
Awesome!
Curt,
Congratulations, Man! I am so excited for you and Cade. I feel your excitement!
Gregg
Ain`t it great when a plan comes together?!!!
Hunting with your kids is always great, but sometimes you just get a feeling that something MAGIC is about to happen.
I hope that is what happened for you Curt. No matter what, it doesn`t get more satisfying that that. A shared memory!!!
Thanks for sharing it all with us. The pictures are world class!!! :notworthy:
Been off turkey hunting myself. Way to go guys! Nothing like a father son hunt that works out perfectly.
CONGRATS!!
Curt and Cade, way to team up on that turkey. Great story, great pics, great times together. Here's wishing you two many more like that in the future. :clapper:

I also had problems with my full strut decoy this yr. in KS. Think I'll give mine an overhaul as well. Thanks for the idea/info.
Awesome!! Congrats!
Congrats Curt and Cade! That is a day you will both always remember.
I've been away trying to arrow another gobbler before our season ends but happened to check in and see this Curt. What a huge number of posts; looks like you and Cade's adventure has made quite an impact on the Tradgangers. Way to go "Dad". Gotta run for now, but I'll be back later to read the entire thread.
Doesn't get any better is right great lookin bird curt
This is so wonderful! Congratulation Guru.
You're right Gary, I'm blown away by everyone's support, it is greatly appreciated :notworthy:
Been some talk lately here about turkey tackle and results...so I thought I'd describe my set-up, and exactly how it performed.
I was shooting my #58 black Jack Kempf Kwyk Styk "Cy". Arrows were old CX Terminator hunters,46/60's, with 160 Snuffer on a 75gr. steel adapter.
I believe they weigh in about 560 grains....
At the shot the arrow appeared to just hang up on the fletch end. I say this because I remember it in the bird, but mostly out, when he first jumped up and started cart wheeling.
As you saw in earlier picture when we approached "Neight", the arrow quickly fell out while he attempted to get away, and he drug it along on the end of the #30 string.
The Snuffer went thru at least the near lung(hard to tell if it hit the other lung,it was a mess in there) and cut off the front of his heart as it exited on front of his far wing butt....
As you can see in the pic, his leg is nowhere near where it was when the shot happened as he walked in a half strutt. Check out the cut on the front edge of the thigh. That was from when the Snuffer hit him.
The reason it's so out of place now is from carrying him by the feet. He's stretched out.
Anyway, just thought I'd share....
Congrats! I expect the next step is for Cade to get one with Dad tagging along!
By the way, if ya get the hankerin' to bid in the St Judes auction (which I know you will). That pic of Cade with the turkey sure would look good carved/burned! see day 2 Wild Fire Artistry! Remember, it is for the kids!
Nice job Curt and Cade!
Really want to name my deke "ole number __". Can't remember which number the fan was bud. 7?
Gotta love it! :clapper:
You two make a wonderful team. Congrats to you both.
Great job and thank you for sharing the experience. What a thrill to share this with your son. One of my 14 yr twins arrowed his 1st bird this season. The 1st shot was feathers, the 2nd shot thru the blind strap, just like the one displayed in your photos, with a woodsman sticking out the rear of a DSD jake and the 3rd shot was on the mark. I have never ever seen my son so excited. We were just lucky to have so many accommodating birds that morning. A memory for a lifetime.
Great hunt!
Let me know when you need more mouth calls...glad to see them put to good use!
Very Nice, glad you two got her done bud!! Shawn
Not sure what you mean Charlie....I don't remember what bird that tail was off :knothead:
Charles, Just started using the second set you sent me bud. The others were used for the last 3-4 seasons I believe. Probably would have lasted a lot longer had I taken better care of them. I like them better than any I've ever bought...thanx again bro
Shawn, hey bud...been way too long since we talked or got together...miss ya brother!
Thanx again to everyone for thew kind words and support :notworthy:
Nice story and pics. Congrats!
Thanx fellas....Cade and I both are thrilled by your responses and support! :notworthy:
Curt, I'm real happy for you and Cade! That's awesome it all came together. Congratulations to you both!
Great story.
To share that with Cade had to be a great day. Congrats!TD.
Congrats Curt , that is one memory you will cherish forever . Very nice story thanks for sharing it with us. Drew

  And thank you!
I can only imagine the excitement... An awesome story!
Let us know when it comes out in print.
Ok Curt, what's the hold up? You are allowed 2 birds in NY. Where's the story on bird #2. Surely, you've put #2 on the ground by now! : )
Great story! Glad you have this experience to remember for ever. Nice bird to boot...
very nice!!!
