What arrows would you all recommend for a 50# martin savannah? I have a tad over a 27" draw length as best I can tell.
I like the idea of the durability of carbon but am not wholly opposed to aluminum.
Also, what fletching style should I choose if given the choice?
And what length? I am new to traditional archery.
Thanks in advance!
Make them 28.5 inches from the nock to BOP (Base of point) So 28.5 without the tip on.
The Savannah like most longbows is not quite center shot, so the arrow has to flex a bit.
I'd try to use at least a 2016 aluminum but no more than a 2117. The Savannah throws the arrows out pretty fast so maybe the 2117 with a 125 grain tip.
I like the 5.5 inch 3 fletch myself, but more and more people seem to be going to the 4" feather for good reasons. I don't think that the fletch is going to make as much difference as the proper shaft.
Good luck

PS Lot's of good people here who make and sell arrows. Give them a try. I'm sure they've made arrows to match a Martin Savannah. that's a neat bow.

where can I find these people?

Towards the top of the page in the center you will see a tab "****Trag gang sponsor list*****", thats where you will find those fine folks!
I couldn't really find anyone who did anything but wood arrows, any recommendations?
Any other help on which shaft would also be appreciated
Badger arrows, 3 Rivers archery, Kustom King...these three i have personal experience with. Give Paul a call at Badger arrow and tell him what you need. He can advise you and sells aluminum and carbon. Goldtips would be a good choice for carbons..35/55's. There are several other sponsors on here that can help and i'm sure there will be others to jump in and help! Good luck!
If you want to shoot carbons I would try 15/35's, at 29 1/2" they'll spine at 54#'s,,,1916 aluminums a shade under 53#'s. Both should shoot well withyour bow w/125 grns or 145 grn points.

Since I am new to this, I have had several recommendations to leave them full length, is there a way to not put inserts in so that they can be cut later? Like gluing on a tip or something?
For the newbie, would you recommend leaving the arrows full length? Should I consider the 1535s?
Thanks again!
I shoot 1535's but I am pulling 45@27 max. I think you may be between 1535 and 3555 - so you may need to try both. Black Widow sells each. I don't think you will not end up full length but will be able to get down to 29" +/- range - probably shorter. You will probably have to weight up the front some. If you use the glue stick for inserts, you can heat and remove, and cut off length as you tune your arrow. If you call BW they will send you a tuning guide that really helps.
If you have a consumer friendly outfitter near you it's likely they'll sell you one arrow, have them set a couple up for you and try them. Carbons, when labled 1535, 3555,and so on can be deceiving, and they're expensive if you happen to get a doz that don't work for you. You'll get the same performance out of aluminum at half the cost. What are you shooting now?
You can go to the Arrows and Arrow Components link further down in the Classifieds section. Just say you're a newbie and ask if anyone has the weights listed here to sell. Most of the guys will not steer you wrong.
Or try one of our sponsors which are named above. They also have people who can help you select.
good luck
