As part of the Compton gathering each year a Trad Gang "meet & great" has become part of the tradition. I am going to be helping to coordinate this years event.
We have Saturday morning from 11 - 12 scheduled for a meeting of all Trad Gangers who would like a chance to put a face with a name. We will meet in the main seminar tent.
I was working the booth last year and since I was still in storm recovery mode I didn't make it over to the meeting last year. For those that did, what can we do differently this year to make it better?
I'm planning to have name tags available, and thinking maybe a white board to sign in on. Would some people like to have a round of shooting with different members afterward? Maybe just throw names in a hat to match up groupings so that you can get a chance to get to know some new people?
Any other ideas or suggestions? Just let me know and we'll make it happen
Joe, Glad to see somebody is still heading this up. I didn't make it last year either because of my storm recovery at home!! :banghead: Hopefully this year I will be around for the get together.
I'm pretty new here but would sure like to meet other members. I plan to be there with my daughter. Nametags are a great idea. This will be our first gathering and it sounds like a blast!!
Hey I missed that one also, guess I was de-mudding all your gear Joe ;)
I'm in for this year, weather permitting :D
JOE YOUR IDEA SOUNDS GREAT! This new transition to trad archery has been awesome for me! I have heard that compton is awesome and cant wait! Just like i cant wait for the ND trip!! Thanks to you and Bruce again!!!
Yeah sounds like a great idea! I like the shooting a round with tradgangers! I too can't wait for Compton and ND with you, Bruce and Raf!!!!
What are the dates for Comptons? I am not sure if I will be back from Alaska to make it.
Paul, the weekend of the 18th of June. Hope your back in time!
We are going to be at Compton's but Jason will not be traveling with us. (new baby duties)
So please stop by the booth and say howdy. I'm probably not going to get to the TG gathering.
Mike
I like the idea, especially the round of shooting part.
Good stuff Whip! Missed last year for bear hunt but will be there for sure this time. See you all there.
If I can get out of work that day, I am in
Thanks Whip for organazing!

We'll be there !!! Gonna drive up on Thursday and come back home on Sunday. Looking forward to putting some faces to names and would love to shoot a round with some "Trad Gang" folks.

Can I hook up with someone with a dakota bow and Rick Welch training? I need some help! Like the shoot a round idea. Great way to walk and talk.
Good Idea ; We will have booth duty but hope everyone stops by to talk. Jim
I'm in!!!
I was at that gathering last year and it did need a spark of some sort. A picture was taken by someone that attended but I never saw it posted anywhere. I suppose I could have missed it. I figure there was 10 of us last year but it seemed to break up quickly. The white board sign in idea and shoot are good ideas but don't forget to get a picture. Won't be able to attend this year which I'm really regretting but I will have a good time with my wife on the cruise she planned for that date. :banghead:
With Whip, BowhuntingFool, Jason, Rafael and maybe BadgerArrow you've got a good start on a great time.
This year will be a first for me...looking forward to it so much!!!
Whip, any chance we could get a shooting area for an hour or so and bring a bunch of our bows there to swap and shoot? Kind of a bow round up? Would be neat to see what the other guys are shooting and get a feel for some other bow models.
By the time that I got there on Saturday last year, there were only 4 people left. I have a pretty good digital camera and I am quite sure that my wonderful wife would oblige and snap a picture or two. I can assure you that it will be posted here on Trad Gang after I return home.
Owlbait has a pretty good idea.......hopefully he will post it, I think it will be a "good thing" for everyone.

I'll second that idea

I hope to make it for the whole weekend this year...bringing rubber boots and rain gear...that way it won't rain.
Whip...if I bring a couple bows for refurbish will you have room to haul back home or should I just ship them to you?
The wife and I are gonna make it this year, so I'll be sure to keep an eye on this and stop by the gathering. Should be easy to spot Joe - I'll look for the guy in the funny hat....wait there'll be lots of guys in funny hats....
On another note....if anyone is interested, we'll be involved in a blood tracking seminar on Friday afternoon with information and a presentation about blood tracking dogs. We'll have a super secret expert guest there to give the seminar! Hoping to put on a demonstration as well. Should be interesting. If nothing else stop by and say "Hi!" to the pup...(I'll be the guy getting pulled around by the weiner dog).
Ryan
Ryan,
Do you think you could talk your Dad into coming along with you ??? I have talked to him several times on the phone......own both of his books and would LOVE to meet him and shake his hand, as I am sure many others would too ???

Hey!! I resemble that remark! :biglaugh:
I like the idea of the bow exchange. Doubt we can get the shooting range dedicated strictly to us though. Vendors will need to allow customers to shoot, and we don't want to tick off the vendors. Nothing to stop us from heading to the shooting range on the way to shoot the course though. Definately bring your bows along for others to see.
I look forward to Compton almost as much as a hunting trip - always a good time!
Oh, and Terry - yes, I do plan on picking up bows at the show. They can be dropped off in my booth anytime. I'll be posting a reminder as the time gets close.
Thanks!

Ryan,
Thanks for letting me know........now I have one more thing to look forward to in Michigan. :campfire:

I will be there. "Hunt It" should be with me at the meeting - unless he oversleeps
Yep. I plan to be there as well. I like the idea of mixing it up to do some shooting.
My wife and I are planning on being there also. I'm coming along great after my hip surgery, I think I should be ready to hit the courses. Let's hope for nice weather this year.
I might even go out turkey hunting in a week or two!
Question...Does anybody bring their dogs to their campsite? Good dogs of course. :D
Looking forward to comptons this year, and meeting some of the dudes on here, sounds cool. Bringing the camper this year and will have beverages avalible in the evenings and Elk burgers too.Everyone on this site is welcome at my camp.Don
This will be our first year and looking forward to meeting lots of TG's we see posting on here. Sure hope the weather is good too.

I'm planning on being there...Compton is a must attend event IMHO. Besides, if I'm not mistaken, I believe Whip still owes me a beer from last year. :bigsmyl:
Bonebuster, plenty of good dogs there. Bring it along.
Three of us from Nebraska will be there again this year. Will try to make the TG 'gathering'.
Craig
We'll be there! Like Whip I REALLY look forward to Compton. My kids start talking about next year on the trip home!
Great ideas so far. I was late to the get together last year & everyone was gone.

Whip,
I'm gonna pick me up one of those Bailey hats. I've regretted NOT buying one since last year. I'm not sure of the size, so I'm gonna try 'em on till I find one that fits.
Winterhawk1960
I am all for this and still plan on attending this year. Does anyone know how much it cost to shoot the range(s)?
I got a dumb question where is this happening in michigan. Anybody got an adress or anything? If it's not to far away I'm gonna try to be there and get some shooting advice. Thanks RC
Rock crusher, It's at the Berrien County Sportsmans Club in Berrien Spring Mi . The address is 2985 east linco rd Berrien Springs.
UnderControl16,
If my memory serves me correctly, last year it cost $10 to shoot one day and either $20 or $25 to shoot all the days. Well worth it.....last year there were 3 different courses and I'm hearing that this year there are 4.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
Winterhawk1960
I'll be there. Shooting round sounds fun.
As long as I can remember, there have always been 4 courses. Doesn't look like I will be working this year, so I plan to shoot my heart out. My son and I may have enough spare time that we can enter some of the other events in addition to the chili contest.
Joe, if you need somebody to give you a break at the booth, let me know
Would love to make the drive from Texas to attend this event. Heard a lot about Compton over the years. Just don't know if I can fit it in this year. Sounds like a great time will be had by all. Enjoy. :banghead:
I'm sorry I will miss you guys and Roger, but will be bear hunting with Barry and an arm-load of other TGers at BQIV. I'm sure it will be a great time a Comptons.
Keep the poles up.
Mike
It's getting closer........ :campfire: :archer2:
We're be at Compton this year, yea I know about the storm last year..We had items blown for miles I think! We're be inside the tent this year! Will try to make the meetin'!!!! We're have a CAP for TG's to sign!

sounds great
Only 4 more weeks boys and girls!!
I am planning on being there, They put on a great chili dinner for everyone on Friday. Always great to see old friends and meet new ones. Count me in on the meet and greet. :archer2:
I am hoping to be there with my son. We have never been to Compton before.
Irish, In order for Hunt It to oversleep he would first have to GO to sleep. They don't call him the Road Camel for nothing!
Ya, I know all about Dave (Hunt It) and his driving. I am the guy that has driven across the US with him many time. The guy is unbelievable. It was meant as a poke at the big guy.
I'll be there!
I`m bringing the whole tribe.
Are there provisions for a campfire at the individual campsites?
Looking forward to it!!!
Planning on being there all day Fri., what time can we start shooting and visiting the vendors? going to drive down in the a.m, then home at end of day. Todd
It's almost here gentlemen!

Might take you up on that one, never tried Elk and a cold drink sounds good after a day of shooting.
This will be my first year, and I plan on spending a lot of time at the ABCC building.
Will try to make the TG 'gathering'.
I should be able to make the 11:00 meeting time
ABCC building? What is that? thanks :)
