Title: Choosing 5/16 broadheads
Post by: FrankM on April 27, 2010, 12:55:00 AM
I have seen on some sites that broadheads are listed as 5/16 or other sizes, but some broadheads do not have sizes listed. Does that mean they work on all shafts? Or should I call the site?

The bh's that list 5/16 might very well have a skinnier ferrule to fit a 5/16 exactly. The other heads that don't list 5/16 should work fine. They would just a have a little (1/64 all around)"lip" where the ferrule is a tad bigger than the shaft.
They should glue in fine if your taper is good. Having that lip might make it a bit more difficult to remove from targets. It very well might be a GOOD thing by helping penetration on game. A larger head ferrule dia cuts a bigger hole that supposedly lets the shaft slide through easier.
You could always call to hear it from the source.

Hope this helps.

The overwhelming majority of glue on heads are sized at 11/32" and are intended for use on 11/32" shafts or adapters, or 23/64" shafting.  The 5/16" heads are limited in number and are usually specified as 5/16" for that reason.  If you're looking at glue on heads and the size is not specified, they are probably 11/32".  I would still recommend you verify before you buy to eliminate any doubt if you're not sure.

Although 5/16" heads are intended for use on the smaller shafting, 11/32" will usually work very well on those smaller shafts... another reason there aren't all that many 5/16" broadheads.

I like the 5/16 Tusker broadheads, they fit perfectly and are tough easy to sharpen too.
