I've always, ALWAYS painted my shafts and am perplexed...
I made a change from my Axis shafts this season to Carbon Express Heritage shafts and can't seem to clean them. I've tried scuffing them w/ steel wool, whiping them down w/ denatured alcohol..even tried Acetone after the first failed attempt.
Each time I spray the paint will immediately "fish eye" as it there is a silicone or oil on the finish.
I normaly spray them white w/ a matching fade depending on the feather choice and have been forced to use wraps on the 1/2 doz I fletched this weekend, but I'm not a wrap fan as they don't seem to be a durable to me.
Is it just me?
Any help?
Mike
Mike I had no problem with mine. First I cleaned the area to be crowned with acetone then dipped with gasket lacquer (3 coats).

Another guy and I both had similar problems with GT's some years back doing crown dips.
Nothing mattered. No cleaning made it go away.
Seems to be a "batch" thing. Just one batch I had and one he had. Never had it happen with spray paint, though.
Did have my fletch glue burn through my spray crown and looked like someone spit tabbacy juice on my arrows!
I use spray paint, RustOleum stuff.

Killdeer
Try a different primer. I have had the same thing happen with CX and GT shafts. I have had to re-clean the shafts and switch primers three or four times before I could get paint to look right. Regardless of what I have done I have never gotten any chartruese paint to look right. That really vexes me! I have always eventually gotten good looking paint jobs with every other color.
Those look great Killdeer! Same paint I'm using. Tried Krylon and figured it was the paint, so went up and bought the Rustoleum. I really freaked out as I've been painting shafts of all kind this way for years and have never had an issue before. I will say I've never used a primer, but that did cross my mind.
These shafts are the slickest i've ever touched...almost as if you'd sprayed them w/ silicone...they almost feel oily to the touch.
Thanks everyone..I was thinkin it was just me, but I'm bettin it's a batch thing. I may give the primer a shot....
