Im with Mark - Curley Bubinga.
Or there is always Macasser Ebony.
Ziricote is the best
My riser will be dark pau ferro.
Everyone has a different idea which wood is best.
The best WOULD I can get right now is IF MINE WOULD SHOW UP.... :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
Sorry I am at work doing Damage control after I was gone for 5 WEEKS...so I am alittle punchy right now.

Moose that is beautiful Pau Ferro. I ordered it in a riser once and it didn't look anything like that, very nice.
Im with you TJ that Ferro looks like a well aged Osage, beautiful.
Thanks guys. I had another Widow with Pau Ferro handle that looked very similar to the shelf side of my riser. The opposite side has a nice "swirly" pattern to it, similar to some of the walnut used on high end guns...Mike
mooseman76, I thought I saw that bow on the classified's this weekend. Did you decide not to sell. I was close to sending you an email....very nice looking bow!
I did, I was able to work something out to keep the bow in the stable for now...Mike
Good looking bow, really nice wood combinations.
she's a beaut
I have a PSA that has a Coca-bola riser with yew veneers that is stunning. Both are very heavily figured with black phenolic and black tips.
I had always been a longbow person for the last 5-6 years and never thought I would change. I was never much of a Widow fan due to the looks but was always impressed with the handle forward and high brace height which makes it almost impossible to torque the bow. I literally gained 10 yards over my longbows almost immediately and I think I could wear a parka and not hit my arm with the string. Made a believer out of a non believer.
this pic is of a Santos Rosewood bow I built a month ago, (http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt46/Robertfishes/2ndlblimb.jpg)
gonna use this veneer in a bow in the near future,it's macassar ebony (http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt46/Robertfishes/ebonyveneer1.jpg)
If I were to order one, Zircote riser with Myrtle limbs.
How about mid west walnut with curly maple limbs or west coast walnut glassed in the riser for stability, do not have to look too far for some beautiful wood between our shores. most domestic woods exceed the exotics in beauty and strength with out the drying problems and the oils that deplete the finish life but thats just me and as luck would have it I get to work with these beautiful wood every day so perhaps I am a bit biased
I used Indiana Black Walnut in these limbs. other pic is of some curly black walnut veneers, gonna build at least 12 bows with them.. (http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt46/Robertfishes/3rdbow.jpg) (http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt46/Robertfishes/walnutveneerapril2010.jpg)
I like the dark browns also. My choice would be a riser that is built with wenge (very dark brown) and curly bubinga with curly bubinga limbs.
Anybody got any pics of Zircote? What would zircote riser and limbs look like?
Do a search for PCH twins and you will find some pics of Steel's Zircote riser PCH with tiger myrtle limbs. I couldn't resist that combo myself so that is what I ordered.
Those are truely some fine looking bows guys!!!! I'm gonna have to go cut my credit card up.
just as a general rule of thumb, with age, light woods turn dark and dark woods turn light. i dont know if that helps but i just thought i would throw it out there.
