Post by: Stiks-n-Strings on April 24, 2010, 03:25:00 PM
Heres about a third of the morels I found today while out messing around in my hunting area.

Gave the rest away to a few folks who are unable to get out and find them.

I miss hunting morels in the spring - as far as I know they don't grow this far south.  Fry them puppies up in some butter....yum!

I got home with about 75 from my MO turkey hunt. Had deep-fried morels and turkey nuggets last night! Actually had enough to freeze some for later.

We found about 80 on Sunday.  It is pretty dry here.  This rain this weekend should help.

Wow,what a haul.Seems like you guys in the mid-west find a lot compared to around here.Morel and turkey season are around the same time for a reason...they taste great together.

it was pretty dry here until yesterday. Not a real good year for them here either. Hoping after this rain we're getting a little sunshine and I might get one mor good mess so far this year I've only found about 6 or 7 pounds usually find that many in one trip if they are up good.

Seems like they come up good about every other year or every third year.

Charlie,

Been finding them everyday for almost a week now in the lower Hudson valley.  Mostly greys, but have found a few smaller yellows.  Found the first two half-frees yesterday during a lull in the rain.  This rain should really kick them into high gear.  According to my records, this year is the earliest that I've found them in any numbers by at least a week.

Hang in there.....they'll be out in before you can blink an eye.

I went today found 28 nice fresh greys 2 to 3 inches tall. Finaly rained here, found 5 greys 10 days ago but has been really dry until this weekend. The really dry weather has been hard on my carp shooting too.

Thanks Tony.

I did some looking in the Hudson valley yesterday. I went to a couple "hot spots" I have. No Luck although I have only ever found 2 greys there. I have found plenty of the white's though much later in the season. Some almost as large as a 2 liter bottle. I could show you pics but dont have photo bucket and would have to email them.

I agree afetr yesterday and today we should be in business.
