If You don't use your spring turkey wings (feathers) don't get rid of them. Many TRADS will use them. I DO ! hmmmm!
I use every one of them I can get my hands on. I love hunting with turkey fletch or goose fletch. It makes me feel closer to nature and they look awesome to boot.
I have everyone that I know saving wings for me....I could have them all and will still not have enough. :readit: :readit: :readit:
I asked a buddy of mine to save his wings for me and he did. Meat and all delivered to my house after being in a plastic trash bag for several days in the bed of his truck. Lovely. I've learned to be more specific :)
Talk with your local NWTF guys. Those shotgunners don't save the wings unless you ask!
Got six sets now, hoping for more before season is over. Going to grind and chop in two weeks.

add in canadian goose feathers, too - and those are free for the taking during the may/june moult ... just visit a local pond, lake, park or golf course!
A friend brought me 22 wings and 8 fans the other day.
I have struck up a lot of deals for wings in the past. I usually get burned. Made a custom bow for a real serious turkey hunter once, he wanted a bow to give as a gift to a friend in Tuscaloosa. The deal was he was going to save all his and his friends wings for me "FOR LIFE" in place of payment. I got 2 sets of wings and never saw the guy again.
I have some LW Canadian goose feathers.

He must have died, Eric.
He is still around, just "forgot" about our agreement apparently.
Note: Typically the jake and hen wing bones make your better wingbone calls.
I have 5 pair I think hen and tom. Would like to make a deal on having some feathers made and maybe a wing bone call made. Just starting to hunt this year so more maybe possiable. I shoot RW feathers. Mike
Hey i got a question for you guys. How do you cut turkey feathers to use them as fletch?

turning turk feathers into arrow fletches (http://tradgang.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=000111)
Lil Red, you have a private message
Feathers are great , but the bones from all would be welcome also !
I saved mine and got 2 more from my hunting buddies :)
for anyone interested, you can strip feathers without any grinding and with a good arrow jig and fletch tape and a feather burner, get a perfect fletch with no quill and they are awesome.
I have two sets right now. Plus hope to have more on the way. I hope to get them done one day. I just don't have the equipment to do it and don't have the time right now. I think it would be cool to do them or have someone do them. My ten year old son would love them. So for now they sit.
I have one Left Wing in My Freezer right now, but can ALWAYS Use More!! Left Wings that Is!!
Anyone interested, check out the thread in arrow and arrow components on feather grinding.
They do look great. By the way, you don't have to do them yourselves. YOu can contact Trueflight Feathers and they will, at specific times of the year work them up for you. I forget the price but it wasn't too bad. They split the quill, grind em down and send them to you full length ready for the chopper. I would imagine they'd even chop them for you if you wanted?
EXCELLENT!!!!!! Thanks for a great tutorial.
