Has any of you folks used a thermacell insect repeller in the spring up there in canada when the black flys are out?? Just wondering as with these warmer than usual temps here where i hunt turkeys the black flys drive me out of the woods, the other bugs I can keep off with liquid repellent but those b flys seem unstopable!! :help:
All my trips to Canada were in early/mid May and the bugs just were not bad yet.. I do know everyone but me brought Thermacell's....
Someone that has went later in June should be a big help for you....
I was up there 25 years ago on a bear hunt and the Blk Flys ruined the whole trip for me, that's why i'm asking people who have benn there when the flys carry you away if they tried a thermacell, if they work there it will work here as well! Don't want to buy something that may or may not work!!
I wouldn't go to Canada without one !
Worth their weight in gold, IMHO.
They work great. Especially in a ground blind like a Double Bull. I've done a fair bit of bear hunting from a treestand, and the last time hunted from a ground blind - the only way to go! A thermacell in there keeps the bugs away, the bears pay no attention to the blind, and you can sit in comfort - read a book if you like.
I was hunting bear in Temagami last August, and you could not sit still if it wasn't for the Thermacell. The skeeters, black flies, deer flies came at you the second you got out of your vehicle, and persisted until the Thermacell was turned on. Trust me, they work.
As an avid bear hunter, my Thermacell has been my best investment in the last 5 years.
I would leave my bow home and hunt with a knife before I went without a Thermocell.
Yup,
don't leave home without it!!!! :readit:
The Thermacell didn't bother this guy or a few others. It was cool to watch the blackflies fly in, hit the "wall" and leave.

Thanks guys, I'm bitting the arrow on this one and ordering one :jumper: I just don't like the thought of just something else to carry in the woods, but if it will help keep me there,it will be worth it!
The best investment you'll make for a Springtime Canadian hunt. The first trip I made, I went out the first night exhausted from the trip and forgot my Thermacell. Hard lesson learned; I actually carry two now. GY
I don't know how I used to do it without one up here. Hunting during the warmer months has become MUCH more enjoyable with a Thermacell. Funny thing is, if you don't buy one....you'd pay anything for one when you're out there wishing you spent the money in the first place!
Ry, I'm going to buy one this week. Great advise...
bought my 2nd one in antisipation of my trip this year, I would hate for $30 to ruin a trip.
Thermacells are the cats meow! Best little device I ever bought.
Worth every penny !!!!
I'll be putting this unit to test in a few weeks, where I hunt turkeys the black flys during mid may on, can carry a man away! Lot's of skeeters also! If this thing works as good as I keep hearing I'll buy another for backup! If I remember I'll post up a review to as how well it works!
I have 4 including one that acts as a small lantern that you put on a table!! Excellent choice!!
They work excellent for black flies and even them mosquitos on steroids that we have here in Louisiana.
I would buy two and plenty of refills. I was on a moose hunt last fall and the bugs ruined the trip. I love to hunt but it was terrible. A thermacell would have changed the entire trip for the better.
