I recently bought a new take-down recurve, and am in the process of getting it set-up to shoot this coming weekend. What have you found to be your favorite bow shelf material? Velcro, leather, etc? Any pics of your set-up would be great! Thanks.
Sealskin
I just use adhesive backed velcro, because it's cheap and quiet. When it gets dirty just peel it off and stick on a new peice.
i have some beaver skin that im going to try.
I have been using industrial velcro, grey in color, seems to hold up well and it's cheap. I liked the old Bear rug rest from years ago but it's harder to find and more money. Sealskin works well but don't seem to last long for me for some reason.

Small strips of Bear Hair....
Joe, Did you pluck that bear hair from the encounter you had with the Grizzly? :wavey:
Bear hair carpet or indust velcro.
Whatever is within reach
I likes seal skin whn it was available. Now I use a leather rest like those that come with Martins bows.
Another vote for velcro.I use it on every bow i build and on my personal bow.Havnt found anything that works better in all conditions.
Charlie, did you checker your bow ?
Sealskin but hard to find!
Another vote for velcro!
And another vote for velcro.
velcro
Stick on chair pads or Velcro.
Sealskin is my favorite.
Another vote for sealskin, velcro doesn't seem to last too long for me.
Hi,
I use industrial Velcro strip (the soft part) and when is too used, with a very little cost, I replace with a new piece.
Thanks
Carlo
Pat... that's a Sherry Abraham (sp) checkering job.
Ok I'm going to through something different out there. I use coyote fur. Just because I had some laying around. I have found that it really doesn't matter. If you have your nock point right your shelf material shouldn't wear out that fast. I have had coyote fur on my longbow shelf for a year now and it still has alot of the fur left on it. I have used just soft leather also, so even if the fur wears down the soft leather does the right job.
I also use coyote fur strips in my string for silencers. Same idea, if the bow is tuned and silencers in the right place it really doesn't matter a whole lot on the material.
Velcro, those seal are too hard to catch.....
i have used velcro but i dont quite trust it after it came off in cold weather while in my stand and no back up, but it did work well.
Tommy
Dr. Scholls self-adhesive moleskin. Cheap and wears much better than other materials I tried.
ZEBRA It last forever and looks great.
LA
Thanks Charlie..
I've been using the industrial Velcro for several years now.. Works very well, is readily available and fairly inexpensive.
Velcro
I guess I'm "old school",well old anyway. I still like leather with 3M double sided tape. :archer:
Velcro, fast an cheap to replace.
Throw some tanned beavertail on there for your shelf and strike plate. it lasts FOREVER
another vote for ..Zebra. Works great so far and I have been shooting every day for a few months.
soft or suede leather for the shelf and strike plate for me
velcro..it lasts forever.
Leather or sealskin
Sealskin. I just picked-up some Zebra for the future and it looks promising. I put Beaver-Tail on my Pronghorn to match the grip I made for her and it's real nice too.
velcro for me
Tanned beavertail works real well and is nice and thin.
Hi All,
I once had the opportunity to chat with Stacy Groscup after one of his demonstrations, and I asked him what he used for a rest.... "velcro." I'm still using out of that first package I bought years ago. :D
Industrial Strength Velcro

Just went from velcro to a beavertail rest and strike plate (from Abe) for my Cari-bow, so far so good. Seems pretty tough and I like the way it looks. I also like that bits of feather and other stuff isn't constantly getting caught in the beavertail like it did with the velcro.
adhesive backed velcro for me.
I use leather but have used velcro in the past and it worked well. Whatever the shelf material you use make sure you put a match stick, piece of leather or something to make a raised place on your shelf
Velcro for me as well. I buy the black industrial stuff at Wal-Mart and it has served me very well.
Velcro works great for bowfishing but I agree with Hunter and don't like that things tend to get caught in it.
I've tried everything as of late and I love a calf hair window and soft suede rest.
I'll have to try some of that seal skin.
