Thanks Rob!
Those sure look nice! I hope mine turn out half as well. Of course I wont be doing pin striping unless I can get ink from a pen to work.

I have tried it on crestwraps on carbons, but they wear off quickly after shooting. if you have a seal on the woodies they will probably be ok.
looks great by the way.
I was planning on drawing and then sealing with miniwax poly.
You can seal with one layer of scotch tape cut with a scissor or knife.
Yup. I followed Rob's tip and used sharpies. It's easy to do and the result is great.
When coloring a large section I learned not to press hard on the tip. Just let the tip gently touching the surface. Otherwise it may fuse the tip from overheat(?) and no ink would come out any more.
sealing sharpie cresting by spraying with most any clear (polyu, lacquer, etc.) but *lightly* from about 12" away, else the colors will bleed!
3arrows use of clear tape sounds real good, too!
I dab the paint from a paint pen onto a pallet of some type then dip a brush.I used the pens directly on the sahfts in the past but the brush works a lot better.
I have been using the paint pens for about 10 years and have done hundreds of arrows and they work great.
Wow! Nice work Rob DiStefano! I've use markers for my kids' arrows, but haven't turned out anything near as nice as those.
Very nice Rob. I've used sharpies also but not with these kind of results...
regular sharpies+metallic sharpies+ masking tape+ free hand =

............ :( I need to get a cresting machine
I like to seal the whole shaft, cresting and all. So I haven't found the sharpie compatable with the lacquer I use. I have used a black sharpie fine point to write the spine weight on the finish after the arrow is done.

thanks Rob, Im already hunting for one at garage sales, pawn shops, etc, that or an old sewing machine, whatever I find first
Yep,
I just used black ones on some burned front and back end, died in the middle shafts and it worked perfectly. I am going to try the paint pins on my next set of wood arrows.
My sharpie arrows dont look as good as all yours but I like it because it's mine :bigsmyl:
Unless you put some sort of clear laquer over them, the markers will run.
I've had no problems at all using black and covering with minwax poly. Works great. Using colors is a different story. Some (like green) work great, some bleed (like red), and some just disappear. It just depends.

I beleive is the opposite, at least in my experience
I had problems cresting with sharpies over spay paint then seeling with poly. It seemed that the poly would not cure over the areas with sharpie even after a few coats. I got pretty in depth and drew stars and designs on mine. Then when I straighten an arrow and run a impliment to straighten down the shaft it smears the sharpie and that is under four coats of poly. So I don't think it works with poly

The paint pens don't run at all. They work on carbon, wood and alumininum.
