Title: Once Upon a Tine
Post by: Curveman on April 18, 2010, 10:45:00 AM
Just read: "Once Upon a Tine: The Crooked Hat Chronicles'" by Barry Wensel. I found it a truly enjoyable experience!  The tales have wit, wisdom, warmth, and thrills- and they're all true!  I was on three of the hunts written about where I had the exquisite pleasure of hearing these tales told 'round the campfire on the day they occurred. Barry writes so well though that reading about the other adventures made me feel as though I was on those trips as well! Buy it!            :D

An excellent read, both Barry, and Gene, and also Mike Mitten's book.

Well said CL!

I just finished both of the Wensel books as well and really enjoyed them both.  I really hope Barry can find the time to pen a second edition.  I really like reading campfire style stories.  Awesome job guys!

It is a great, fun read !!!!  Makes me wish I had somehow spent some time hunting with Barry, just for the laughs and stories..

Please do write another or three..

I've heard Gene's is excellent as well. I'd dropped by the main camp at PigGig to pick one up but he'd forgotten to bring some copies along that day. Next on my list, then Mike's.

Some of the most interesting & entertaining reading I've done has come from Gene & Barry.
Mike Mitten's book is right there too!
Read 'em all if you can.

Thanks for the nice comments guys. I've been on the road the last few weeks so just got to this. I just received a request for a copy from the senior editor of Outdoor Life magazine. Hopefully that'll stimulate some positive words for our tradition as well as some sales. During winter I tell people to curl up in front of the fireplace with a good book... now it's about time to curl up in front of the A/C. Thanks. Keep cool. BW

Barry, the only thing you did wrong with your book is make it too short. Couldn't put it down
