Can't believe it was 21C here today. I had no choice but to grab the old Grizzly and head out to my favorite gopher field.
It's nowhere near as good as the one I had a couple years ago, but at least there are gophers there. Since I concentrated on the compound last year, my skills are still somewhat lacking. However, now and then I do connect. The gophers were a little shy today, not sure why as I really don't pose that great a threat!
Had a great day out in the sun,got some real good practice in and got 3 gophers!
Here's what it looked like-

Heehee! I read, "goophers"! Life is more fun with bad eyes!
Nice shot, your kill looked a whole lot more humane than the one that Photobucket offered up in its attempt to be YouTube. Three! Verrrrry good!

Thanks guys. I've never tried eating one, but last year my buddy cleaned one up and roasted it. He said it smelled so bad they couldn't eat it, although one guy tried a little piece and said it was terrible! They're a huge nuisance around here, casue lots of crop damage.
I find that when I shoot at targets, I don't do very well. For some reason, the added intensity of shooting gophers makes me focus harder and I shoot much better. I shoot RH,but my left eye is dominant. Therefore I see down the side of the arrwo at an angle, and any type of aiming is useless. I just bore a hole in the target with my eyes and let fly. These little gophers like to sit in their hole with just their head poking out. Only gives you about a 1 inch target. They can duck before the arrow gets there too. I shot two yesterday that way and the arrow ended up hitting then in the back, which was't visible when I shot. They kind of swap ends when going back down the hole, and the arrow caught them mid way. I always wondered if they could rally duck the arrwo,as often I SWORE I hit them but they dissapeared. Now I know for sure they can.
if anyone is ever down near Vegreville,Alberta, I'd love to have someone to go out gopher shootin with.
:clapper: Nice shot on the goffer. They are a blast. I have also heard they taste pretty bad.
Nice job. Gopher hunting kept me occupied for hours on end when I was a kid. Here in Wisconsin they are not real gophers but 13 striped ground squirrels. We used to shoot them with regular field tips because they would slide in the grass. If you shoot just below the head when they are peeking up above their hole your arrow will slide through the grass and pin them to the back side of the hole. The hard part was getting close enough to them but I found that if I very slowly circled the gopher and got a little closer with each circle I could end up at 10-12 yds. Still not an easy shot.
we have lots of em here too.
Pretty cheap fun
