Post by: Coccobill on April 16, 2010, 03:38:00 PM
Assuming I get one, should I save the feathers? and if yes which ones? anything needed in removing and storing them?
thanks

The first 9 or 10 on a wing are the best for fletching but clip them all. The secondaries work OK, just not as stiff as the primaries.

Bugs will eat holes in them unless you store them in a bag with a little borax. Shake the bag every now and then to distribute the borax on the feathers.

Some use moth balls to keep the bugs at bay but you will have the smell to contend with forever. Borax works just as well, if not better, and has no smell.

Thanks for the Borax tip Eric, I just made a real turkey fan for my decoy and I'll put it in a borax bag after season.
