I am in search of a different shooting glove. I am currently shooting with a Skookum glove that I believe came from Alaska Bowhunting Supply. I have tried and tried to adjust to shooting with a tab, as I really like the "clean" release when using one. I just can't keep hitting the side of my face when I use a tab. It seems that I really "dig in" to my anchor and the string passes along my face........too painful after several shots to continue. I am very happy with my current anchor and have no desire (at this time) to make any changes with it......it just feels "right".
I have some arthritis in the first joint of my right middle finger and between that and the "tingling" sensation that I am getting in the fingers of my right hand after shooting I would really like to give another glove a try. That being said......it is not an option to go out and buy several quality gloves, just to find out that they won't work for me. I plan on attending Comptons again this year and ATAR also. What I really would like to do is "borrow" some while in attendance at these events and see if they are going to work for me. That will save me not only money, but time as well.
In the mean time.......I am wanting some suggestions as to what kind of gloves that the kind folks of this site use. I'm going to have to purchase something in the not to distant future. My current glove is starting to come apart at the seams.
If it matters.......I shoot three-under, and anchor with my thumb knuckle on my earlobe and the end of the cockfeather on my nose.
Any and all help will really appreciated.

Check out the Damascus glove(check with Joe Skipp great price)and the Bearpaw glove is my favorite.
I have used many types of gloves and tabs. I shoot split finger and anchor with my middle finger in the corner of my mouth. I'm currently shooting a Dura glove and it is very slick. I like it except it is not very thick and my fingers tips get sore when shooting heavy bows. I have also used Wyandotte open and closed finger gloves. I like them because the leather is thick but I find myself not getting a smooth release when they get worn. I also like a calf hair tab. A Damascus was good too but still a little thin for my liking. I also have a closed finger Neet glove that I go back to once in a while. I think your best bet is like you said....try a bunch when you get with others.
I with you Winterhawk I never could get a tab to work for me. The string always slapped the tip of my nose.
Although I shoot and love my Damascus glove, I'm not sure if it's right for you. With that arthritic joint and the numbness. They are rather thin and wouldn't help the situation.
I tried a thicker glove once. Didn't like the fact that I couldn't feel the string, but it may be the way you have to go.
It's hell getting old.
Buffalo Big Shot Glove by American Leathers provides the most finger protection of any glove I've tried. Expensive though.
I have tried many tabs and more than a few gloves. The best so far for me is the 3 River,s Dura Glove. You will feel the string some thru it. It is very flexible, which I really like. I use a deep hook and it works good for me. Take care, Jim.
I shoot a black widow pdq super glove with finger tip overlays. It has been wonderful for me. I used to shoot a americans leather big shot but I found out the day I got my wideow glove that I never had a very good anchor with it. I can drive nails with the widow glove. If i order my new ones soon I will send you my old one if you would want. its a medium I stretched out to a tight large.

What CEO said........
I tried all types of gloves and tabs until i found the Elk Big Shot Glove from American leathers. The glove is excellant. It isall elk leather with nylon tip overlays for a smooth release. I messed up one of my gloves tips by having a sharp burr on the metal knocking point. Well I sent the glove back to John turner and for $5 bucks he put new finger stalls on the glove and it is like new. The glove will last a long time if you don't make a dumb mistake like me. I have another one that is 5 years old and still great.

Sticktite on the blackwidow site.
Long finger stalls
High quality leather - didn't buy the nylon stalls glove
Good protection with better string feel than bigshot (IMHO)
I've only been shooting the glove for a month so we'll see on the life (bigshot 3 yrs and going strong) but it is the best glove that I've used.

I like the Elk Big Shot myself
Goat glove from KK it feels like a Damascus glove but wears like a deer skin glove. They are only about 13 bucks. I have been shooting the same glove for two years. I shoot every day and it is still going strong.
I agree with Ranger3 concerning the Goat glove from KK. It also has longer finger stalls than most gloves, which I like for a deep hook.
This is one of those deals where you keep spending money until you just get lucky. I've tried all of those listed above. As of late I like the 3RA Dura glove. But its not really what I want either. The search continues. H
American Leathers Big Shot

I use a single thin layered damascus and glue tabs on the end of the shooting fingers. Tabs are just cut out of an old tie down strap. Good feel, good release. works better for me than anything out there, and over the years Ive used just about all of them. Give it a try w/ one of gloves you aready have--If you don't like it, the tabs can usually be easily removed. I think you're going to leave them on.
Super glove works great for me. Been shooting it for years. To each his own, Some people think the cordovan is too thick.
EW Bateman 2 layer cordovan leather glove provides unbelievable finger protection if you have tingling fingertips. Takes a while to break it in because it is stiff and thick. You have to give it a chance to break in before you give up on it. However, once broken in it will last many many years. Excellent quality.
I started out shooting a tab and one day i tryed a glove, i shoot 3 under and i can get the arrow under my eye a lot easier.
I bought 2 gloves from 3rivers archery the super glove and the big shot Buffalo glove.
I really like the super glove the best but i think i need a small instead of the medium i bought.
I would really check out the super glove if i were you, it has thick fingers so you can shoot a lot and you can also feel the string.
I just picked up one of the American Leathers Big Shot gloves.I've shot an old Bear glove in the past. While I've only shot it a couple of times I'm very pleased with it.It seems well made and seems to have inproved my release. As an added bonus the tip of my index finger doesn't hurt after prolonged shooting which was aproblem with my old glove.

I just started traditional archery this last month. After taking delivery of my bow, I found myself with two arrows and no tab or glove. Rather than waiting to acquire (I live 75 miles from the closest archery shop), I tried a pair of cowhide work gloves for practice sessions. Since, I have tried two types of archery gloves and a tab and I keep going back to the work gloves. If it works................
i started out shooting a skookim and then went to a big shot glove and now i shoot a black widow pdq super glove. i shoot 3 under , thumb nuckle in my ear lobe, and nose touching tip of feather. the widow glove is as good as the big shot and less expensive. both take a little break in time but after that they are my pick. also you will have to get use to not feeling the string like you do with the skookim but stick with it. better release IMO
big shot
Damascus glove for me.I have 2 .i like that they are thin but enough to protect.
Elk Big Shot, works for me!
hello J. Yates! wondered how you like that Big shot glove you just bought. You needed it to go with that "Whip" and "Fatal stick". Glad to see it's working for you...jackdaw
Don,
I have a Big Shot Glove. It is top quality but will probably not give you the protection your looking for. American leathers used to carry a glove with nylon inserts that really protected your fingers, but they no longer make it. Howard Hill Archery makes a glove similar to this with the inserts-it will probably be the next glove I buy. I recently purchased a Hill style glove with cordovan overlays from 3 Rivers. At first, I didn't think it had the quality I was looking for in a glove, but I am really liking the glove now.

Thanks for all the suggestions......guys.
This dang "gettin' old" crap stinks. I have a slightly arthritic middle finger on my right hand and it's been giving me fits everytime that I shoot for very long. It keeps telling me, "That hurts".....but I don't listen very well.
Doug, give me a shout sometime when you know your gonna be in town.....we need to sling a few arrows and do some reminiscing about "Days Gone Bye".

For finger comfort I really like the Big Shot Glove ... I have the elk and have been shooting it several years.
Don, I shoot with 3 different gloves that have already been suggested numerous times. They all work for me but if it didn't look so awkward and unprofessional, I'd probably put No Glove on all of my strings.
Seriously, if you have nerve damage and finger problems, put the rubber on.
