I would like to start a 'Virtual Museum' here on Trad Gang. I remember I was lucky enough to see the Fred Bear Museum before it was busted up and separated......and I'd like to have some sort of Vinatge Archery/Bowhunting showcase here.
If anyone has any old Vintage Pics of Archery/bowhunting Equipment....please post them here if you would like. I think it would be great to have a thread full of old archery pics, and we could move a copy and sticky it to the top of the History/Collectors forum and move a copy to the Classics Archive.
Here's one of Howard Hill's arrows...given to me by the guy that taught me to shoot a longbow at age 8. He gave this to me in 2003 after I interviewed him about his archery/hunting history. I really need to find that tape....and convert it to an MP3
Howard had given him 2 arrows in a hunting camp back in the day, and he gave me one of them.

Arrow is designed to break off at the grooves in the case of an incomplete pass through. The one shown is a 2216.They were availible in other sizes.
Mind if I bump this one up to the top? I'm not sure if my old Shakespeare arrows qualify for this one. Great idea though :campfire: :coffee:
I got something Vintage...but ya'll have to wait til St Judes Auction to see it :bigsmyl: Might even want to place a couple of Bids to help the Kids ;) Doc

I have two Sweetland arrows from the 60's signed by Bill Sweetland with Sweetland head shrinkers and Bear broadheads. I will take some pics and post them later. I also have a 1st edition copy of Hunting the Hard Way by Howard Hill that I will post a pic of. That is about it for vintage except for my old bones,LOL.
This sounds like a great idea. Unfortunately, I don't have anything vintage to add.

The jacket that I am wearing in the picture belonged to Fred Bear. It was given to me by Art Botzenmeier. Art worked for bear archery for many years and helped facilitate the move from Grayling to Gainesville. I think that Art told me he made 97 trips back and forth while they were transitioning. Art was given the jacket by Mrs. Bear. Art also gave me one of his personal bows that was signed by Fred. Yes I wore it in hunting camp in Saskatchewan while hunting black bears. Had to...
Here you go Terry, This is one of Howard's own arrows he shot and made.. This came out of Howards arrow box... Date of arrow is unknowed could be ealry 1950s

This photo was taken by my buddy in about 1970 when Howard Hill retired to Vincent, Al. Howard is signing his book "Hunting the hard way".They are in front of a Western Auto store downtown after the store owner called Howard and he came down to sign the book. The date may be plus or minus 1970? Ken (http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z318/arrow39/DSCN0149.jpg)
Greg, that jacket is the ultimate museum piece! Very cool indeed..
(http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z318/arrow39/DSCN0399.jpg)This magizine was published in the 60's or 70's and the same artist had a different archery painting on each new issue! Ken
Greg, that is a really historycal piece.I am glad that you put it use.
(http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z318/arrow39/DSCN02231.jpg)This photo is of the first archery deer season in Texas,1958 or 1959. My buddy Don Huey is on the left(77 years old now)with his Bear Kodak, home made arrows and quiver. In the middle is Julian Bentley with his Ben Pearson, and me on the right with a Bear Kodak. Don's camo was from Jackson,Fl and mine was army fatuges I painted myself. We were hunting in east Texas and had to travel 80 miles. What was funny was when we stopped at a road side store to get something to drink and all the locals stared at us. We slept out on the ground where the photo was taken. Ken
Ken, cool photo. Thanks for sharing. Thanks for sharing all the other photos, too, fellows. To-The-Top for more.

This is a Sweetland Forgewood arrow with a Bear head mounted on a headshrinker. Mr. Bill Sweetland and Mr. Glenn StCharles signed it.
Good stuff....keep it coming...
:notworthy: :notworthy:
Neat.......there must be more!!!
Great idea here. The "Virtual Museum" needs more items for its collection. Keep them coming!
If I remember correctly that shear advantage was advertised as providing instant lung collapse with the broadhead leading directly the the hollow shaft and the holes up near the nock. I didn't buy any then and I still don't buy it now. :-)
