Title: Stumping with a silent type bud
Post by: Izzy on April 13, 2010, 09:14:00 PM
(http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o244/2crazyboys_photos/dscn1344.jpg)It was a beautiful day here in the northeast and Ive been working like a fool so I had to get out.Decided to do some turkey scouting/stumping.Had a great time shot pretty good for not having shot much in the last couple of weeks.Hers ackson laughing after I missed a broadside, downhill, quartering away skunk cabbage. The woods were full of em, anyone got some recipes? The only thing better would of been if my boys didnt have school and would of been out there to make the "4 Man Wolf Pack" complete.  (http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o244/2crazyboys_photos/dscn1351.jpg)These bees reminded me of where the saying "Birds And The Bees" comes from. This is the view on the wat back to the truck and an awesome ambush for deer come fall.

It looks like he is falling asleep. You must have bored him with your shooting. LOL
Look like a great place to go.

This is who we were looking for, unfortunately we saw him about a 1 1/2 miles from where Ill be hunting in a couple of weeks and this area is already locked down by someone I dont care to hunt with.Maybe hell make his way a mile and a half west before May 1st.The turkey sign was dismal but there were many spotted very close by.I can only hope the hens will bring em over soon. I use to love going out stump shooting with my pit. She absolutely loved it and always knew when I was going to take her. I had her for 14 years. Glad to see that you feel the same.

The arrow retrieval is a mix blessing.  I have a lab that did it. I had to train him not to.

It was great stump shooting, but not great target shooting in the yard.  Every time I would shoot off he went. It's one thing picking an arrow off the ground, but it turns out dogs are kinda hard on arrows firmly stuck in a target.

Great pics...

Mint, theyre the best in my book.My last one was 15 when we had to put her down last May.Plenty of em available for adoption and theyre very emotional and affectionate animals My wife has this fool spoiled. My last one was a woodcock flushing monster even though she didnt know she was doing it.We got a few birds together one year and later she ran a rabbit in front of me.Jackson is well uhhhhhhh,, a little slow so he didnt do well bunny hunting with the longbow and the only one we got close to I went and missed. This fall I hope to put him on bloodtrails and well certainly harass bunnies and squirrels again.Hes a great stumping dog though. He stays close by and like I said he finds them arrows.
