Congrats buddy! That's why you're the man!! :notworthy: :clapper:
Btw, please explain your set-up...I have a hankering to kill a bird with out my blind this spring when not hunting with Cade.
Been making a Ghillie, and been thinking of a way to "ghillie" my bow. I see your bow setup. Could I see more pix bud?
Nice! :bigsmyl:
Great setup, great shot, better pics!
Now that's awesome. I'm tired of lugging around a 25 pound blind and all the crap that goes with it.
T.J.

Them FL. swampers may have your number, but any other bird doesn't stand a chance!!
I'd luv to hear how it went down....
Congrats at first i thought you killed your decoy, Nice!
Oh! I forgot to ask, Since you are done now does that mean you are gonna come and call for me?(since I don't have a GOOD call. Owlbait said he has one I can borrow if I take him bow fishing.)
Way to go joebuck...I'd love to hear more about that chair....
Mark
Awesome Joey...Congrats man!

Hi Joe,
Just wondering if you had added to your "missed turkey total" since you were at the PBS Banquet?
I wont divulge your total but it sure as heck made my buddy and I feel a lot better--lol.
Congrats Joe....can't wait to try my new joebuck turkey call out on these hoosier turkeys....really like the look of that chair....who makes it?
Way to go Joey.
Jack
Great job! A hard thing to do. Many fail using a firearm.
Joey,
You didn't give credit to your 1992 Mossy Oak Fall Foliage or Russell snakers (I think) :) )
Still have mine from when the "MO boys" came to Willow Point.

Joey, Well done; that's a real nice bird. I've been practicing with my Wooden Hen; I'm thinking the NY birds are in trouble. Can't wait till May 1st.
Well-done!
Very nice. Tell us more. . . blind set up?. . . shot/vitals??
Sweeeeet! Good job Joe.

Congrats Joey! That is awesome! I am raring to go in VT with my wooden hen but we have to wait until May 1st. Beautiful bird. Thanks for sharing with us.

Great job Joey! Rent on my Wooden Hen call has just gone WAY up
That's awesome! We open up on the 15th, and threads like this have me itching to go.
Very nice. I like the trail in the dewy grass. I would also be interested in your bow blind.
Thanks guys for congrats. There have been several questions about my gear i'll try to address here.
Ghillie Suit.....i use a 3-D BugTamer and sew Ghillie replacement jute on my arms and head and neck. It's a light jacket and bug proof. It has and big hood that drapes over my head which i fold back to my cap bill then use a camo vail.
My chair....old friend of mine david waldrop designed this. Biggie and myself still use ours after 15 years. I made mine double as pack frame also. It leans against the tree and i cut to perfect height so my bow limb will clear the ground. i camo it up with same jute as my bug tamer and bow blind. I basically drape it down under my seat to take the horizontal lines of chair out.
Bow blind.....this is my second year to try the hoop style. Some of ya'll may remember Tippit and I hamming it up last year using a Xmas wreath?! Well i found this bow blind and like a good redneck i bought it new and have almost fixed it!. It hides my draw when i draw..I have added 2 extra mess screen and sewed the ghillie jute on it to make it look 3-d. I sprayed the jute with glue to hold it in place on the screen becasue i do not want it moving when i move my bow or blowing in the wind...i have drawn on 4 out 5 birds this year within 15 yards undetected. Last year i drew on 2 and got busted because they can see through the net which i fixed obviuosly this year.......i'm still tweaking it and quite honestly i'm thinking about making a limited number of these next year to sell if they work?! right now i'm very pleased....i need several more kills and i have 2 other buddies using a similiar one that compound hunt.we'll see
My decoy.......one thing i do different than most i just discovered is that on my Jake fan, i'll take the secondary and butt feathers and hot melt them on the fan front and back just exactly like a real gobbler..the slightest breeze catches these fine feathers and even though the decoy does not move the feathers do and i always point the butt fan towards incoming bird.........
decoy stake......i juse a fiberglass galss pole with a bolt epoxied in the top...i slide the decoy over the bolt(5/16) and decoy will not fall off the stake when gobbler comes in and fights it. he may knock the fan off but this stkae is a little deeper in the ground and will not come off the stake so in short....he stays longer and fights the decoy trying to knock it down..this helped me friday..it he popped this decoy with his spurs 5 different times..3 times after i shot him! i was able to knock another arrow and could have shot him again..
sorry to be so long winded......bowhunting turkeys is such a passion for me ....i need medicine!!...hey good luck out there everyone and do not be so hard on yourself if you fail sometimes...this stuff is kind of hard but take time to enjoy the woods and your friends in the spring woods...thats the real treat!.....well a gobbler flopping around on an arrow is too!!!!
congrats on a fine looking bird!
Great job Joey. nice bird. Don
Nice shootin', thanks for sharing your hunt.
Impressive.
"Long winded"....I luv the detail and would like to hear more....
Like I said I really have been working on a set-up for hunting without a blind when I don't have Cade.
Gonna be a fun season!!
 :clapper: :clapper:
Congrats my friend- I knew you when.......
Man Joe, you have it down to a science! Those Turkeys don't have a chance.
:bigsmyl:
Congrats! :clapper:
Awesome Joe! I love hearing and seeing your turkey exploits. Thanks for the gear review too. I am thinking I gotta have me one of those hoop blinds :)
I too have ditched my popup unless I am with my children. I ALMOST got 'er done yest with just some camo netting staked in a V with me in the apex. Passed on 2 jakes. Now wish I hadn't!
Great job!
Way to go Joey! Congrats!
Mark
That's my turkey mentor!
Tom Kelly says something in the Tenth Legion about a man that kills a turkey with a bow ought to be able to wear a sign that says "I'm a better man than you" and that when said man walked down the street, other men should gladly step down off the sidewalk and tip their hats when he walks by." This was back when a switchback was a winding mountain trail and Double Bull meant somebody was really really full of crap.
I'm stepping aside and tippin the hat to Joebuck.
Joey, you take this turkey hunting way to serious, or maybe I don't............judging by the fun you have I have to crank it up.
Nice job and nice pics, thanks for sharing :archer:
Awesome job and awesome hunt.
Congrats
ttt
Congrats!
Great read again!
All the details of the gear and set up are on page 4 for those of you that didn't read through the whole thread again.
Awesome job and set-up. I never did much turkey hunting with a shotgun, but I am excited to give it a try this year with my bow. Thanks for sharing!
Dang Joey,
I'm with Duckbutt...tippin' my hat! Looks like it's time to retire Martha :) What did you clean that bird with...tippit
That is great!!! Congrats
Very Cool! would love to get it done this year. Maybe GOD will smile on me...cause I'll need it! :)
Jason
Thanks for sharing. Great Hunt!!! :campfire:
That's gettin er dun.
Thanks for the tips (advice like this here is priceless)and congratulations on a fine bird!

We don't even find out what hunt we have here in MI until March 15th and the seasons don't start until late April, so we'll just enjoy all the southern gangs hunts for now.
Joey can ya tell me more about that hoop blind....i tried searching for one but couldnt find any....or did you make it yourself?
Thanks!
Lance
Ooops....i just saw the other thread where you show your blind....awesome idea!!!
Now that is good stuff! Man our Illinois season seems SOOO far away.
 :clapper:
You scared me there Joe until I read the date of your thread (April 2010). I thought WOW, Joe is hunting out of season and just made a confession on the internet for MDWFP to read. Getting ready for the season to open on Dahomey NWR on March 15, 2012. Should be a good year with the bonus of being able to hunt hogs at the same time.
RonD, That ole bird just keeps dying! I just put in for Sardis today. Tell all them Whatleys hello....and that bald Powell boy too.
Will do Joe. Good luck at Sardis this year.
