Title: Anybody hunt Deschutes National Forest?
Post by: Bjorn on April 08, 2010, 08:01:00 PM
Any experience hunting the Deschutes National Forest for Elk or Deer? Especially in the vicinity of Sunriver? Looks to be a bit civilized maybe; but ya' never know.

Lots of people Bjorn. We have a vacation cabin south of Sunriver. Good fishing in the high mt. lakes...not many deer. There is a herd of elk that roams off of Mt. Bachelor down in there during the late fall. Lots of better places to look to hunt than there.

I would go back to where we hunted last year before I went there Bjorn.

i wore the soles off my boots the last two years trying to hunt elk here and it isn't worth my time anymore-eastern oregon is 6 hours away and the drive vs the time spent hiking doesnt add up-the elk do not talk up here at all-they also dont frequent the same areas very often-better luck out east or on the coast

If your looking to be around the central area of Oregon I would check out the diamond peak area. You will have a better chance of seeing decent bucks up high and there are elk as well. It has its fair share of hunters, but your not going to find an area that has aniamls and doesnt have people hunting them here in Oregon.
