Title: CAMO DIPPING?
Post by: Bonecracker on April 08, 2010, 09:58:00 AM
I have zero experience with camo dipping a bow and wanted some imput on the subject from those in the know!  :help:

How durable is camo dipping on an aluminum riser vs say a wood riser?

When the bow is dipped, do they spray clear over the camo or just leave it as is?

Reason I ask, I have heard of issues where the camo finish comes off easily!     :banghead:
Thanks!

Call Big Jim Bows, 229-344-6617 and talk with Big Jim. He is now dipping many bows and they look great to me. He can answer your questions.

Big Jim bought the dipping equipment from Lonnie at Camo Dip. Lonnie did this bow for me and I'm tickled to death with it. A clear coat is sprayed on over the pattern finish to protect it. I don't think it's any less durable than a factory finish.

Here's before and after:

Tuff stuff. We also put a clear "flat" finish over the camo. The same finish used by many boyers.

thanks,bigjim

I have a guy I use to do my european mounts for customers...he finishes anything you want.

They double coat the product then put your choice of a clear coat.  They are suppose to be durable but no experience rough housng them.  The skulls I've delt with we are very gentle with.

I think the name that was used was "Green Leaf".
Big Jim might have sample pictures up for you to look at. Go to  www.camodip.net. (http://www.camodip.net.)

I have had one done by Lonnie and a second done by  Big Jim.  I hunted some foul wx at PigGig #4 on the first day and took my first pig with this bow. Snow, rain, and mud when I missed my landing jumping the rain swollen creek.  Bow cleaned up real easy with a damp cloth.  One day is not a great test of durability, but I am happy with both mine.  I did the dip and grip on the second with Beaverskin, looks really cool! I strongly recommend this option.

Can only side of a limb be dipped?  I would like to keep the clear glass side of the limb the way it is but would like the brown glass side dipped.

Is this possible?

Well Josh, Jim told me anything could be masked off, so I'd say yes, but it would be best to call him.  I will say he is the MAN though!

I got a new bare bones TallTines last week.  Shipped Jim the bow last Wednesday and it was waiting for me when I got home from work today.  That is one week including Easter weekend!

Here are a couple pics.  I went with Oak Leaf.

I have two that were dipped by Lonnie.  One is about two years old, one is about a year.  I have hunted with both bows, one quite a lot.  I am careful with my equipment but I will usually manage to get a scratch or two on my bow by the end of deer season, that has not happened to either of the dipped bows.  Bill

BigJim can correct me, but I have a 20 year old shotgun that came film dipped from the factory that I believe is the same process.  That baby has seen a lot of miles and rough treament and the only camo missing is what I got too close to the belt sander mounting a different recoil pad.  I'm expecting the same on this bow.
