I was recently taking one of my wife's yoga classes (not by choice mind you) and spent a large portion of the class thinking about archery. Since yoga is a very introspective, physical, and about mental focus, I began to see a correlation. Some of the poses were obviously derived, by yogi's hundreds of years ago, from shooting a bow. During the class, they play music and tell you to focus on your form and visualize what you are trying to do. Sound familiar. So I made a suggestion to my instructor (aka wife) that it might be neat to do a class that was focused on archery. She could incorporate poses that increased flexibility and balance for shooting archery. Get rid of the music, and replace it with noises we hear in the woods (bugles, gobbles, etc). Since, I don't think many of us would attend a yoga class regularly I thought it might get a draw of hunters the week before a season opens. The Trad group seems like the hunters that would benefit the most from a class like this, so what do you think. Has my wife somehow brainwashed me or does this seem like a good idea.
Josh
You are a true bow-head, that's for sure :)
I think what is brilliant about yoga and other alternative methods is that they are easily adaptable to suit other forms of activities than itself. It holds great placebo value for those open to the method. Not all people benefit from it, as with everything else, but for those interested, it is a very good idea.
Either that or your wife has brainwashed me ^^
Boy I thought I had it bad! :saywhat: That being said, @ my age (40) I like stretching above hitting weights, so it could work to your benefit. Don't tell anyone I said that.
Anything that promotes flexibility is a good idea, especially as we get older. I believe that one of the best ways to slow the bad effects of aging is constantly trying to increase flexibility. If doing yoga helps someone stretch and mentally focus at the same time, I see no downside.
Can I drink beer and chew skoal while doin' it?
i think its a good idea, I used yoga to heal myself form some back injuries form playing ball, if i hadnt been so hard headed and did it while playing i probably would have had the injuries to begin with.

:biglaugh: Sure Mojo, beer is a proven relaxant. The more I drink the more relaxed I get.
Beer and skoal will be handed out at the door. lol. But no spitting on the floor, must provide your own spittune. Dress code will be camo, and boots. No Blinds, we don't trust you not to spit on the floor. Instead of saying namaste at the end, students will make the call of there choice. Preferably a bugle.
Dude, when the wife says yoga, just say no!
LOL My mother in law is an advanced yoga instructor. She teaches other instructors. She's immersed in the whole lifestyle. Everything organic, no processed anything, etc.
I completely understand the benefits, but I'll stick with my pushup's and stomach crunches...and then a couple beers afterwards. LOL
Mojo, I have a tree of knowledge in my back yard and I find that when I sit under the tree with hunting buddies and drink beer the longer we drink the smarter we get! Ben
If I was in a yoga class with ladies stretching into odd positions, archery would be the last thing on my mind. :goldtooth:
If it works.....................
The Cardinal sin for the class would be to allow bows in class. I dont want to be infront of anyone holding a bow and drinking. Other than that I don't see any hunters attending class.

You beat me to it! LOL.
Someone would just start passing wind. Class over. H
Men in tights!! Green of course and pointy hats for everyone.
All us old hippies do yoga. Anything that teaches breathing, balance and concentration has just got to be good for your bow shooting skills. Warrior two is all about archery.
I think that it sounds like a good idea! I like to do pilates with my wife, at home though. It helps a lot with muscle control and flexibility.
Pics please.
I'm workin' on shootin' with my feet. I realize I have to bend my legs backwards over my head, but its the only way to to work a slate (or hold a drink) and draw a bow. Hard part is seeing out of the blind with my elbows on the ground.
Very funny, I was really hoping this thread would die before my hunting buddies log on. It's just a matter of time :( . JimmyC I will try to get some pics of someone in camo doing downward dog for ya.
