A while back, I wrote VPA broadheads just to let them/him know that I'd like to see a VPA head of the big Snuffer dimensions. Which I believe is 1.5" cutting diameter? Correct me if I'm wrong.
Basically, Jeff at VPA said they'd have to vent the heads to go bigger and that most people like the unvented heads.
He did however say, they would be able to produce them if there was a demand for such.
So, I'm just opening up this for conversation.
I for one would buy the heads vented or non vented. Even if a non vented head went up to 300 grains. I like the high FOC setups and usually have that much weight up front with my brass inserts and tips.
What say you? :campfire:
I think it sounds like an awesome broadhead ;)
VPA already has nonvented heads that are 300gr...but they aren't 1.5". Considering the quality of the 300's I have, I'd buy a 1.5", vented or not, if they sold one.
Dang Mike you huntin dinosauers up there?
That would be a heckuva head for sure.
Personally I wuld like to see it in a 250gr.
Everyones gonna have their own opinion on the weight I'm sure. Probably in 5 grain incriments!
I'm just a slight bit color blind Biggie. I need pales of blood on the ground. :)
Great idea
I would much prefer unvented!
I dont like the vents
250gr to 300gr screw in
I would like to see a 250+ glue on the size of a 160 snuffer...non vented, with thicker blades.
yep I'd buy the nonvented and 250gr. sounds about right but if they could do it with a 175gr. glue on that would be Ideal so I could use different weight adapters for different set-ups.
I'm with Biggie...250 grain non-vented 1.5" (or at least bigger than current!!!!) :)
Did he give a rationale for having to vent the wider head?

To keep the overall weight down.
I would also like to see them make a head with a larger cutting diameter.
I have the 1 1/4" non-vented screw in 250's now and they are great.. origionally I had the 1 1/8" 175's and they just did not "DO IT FOR ME" :wavey:
I've shot the 250 gr x 1.25" head and killed with it. This may be the best penetrating 3 blade broadhead on the planet. I wouldn't like vents at all.
My guess: A 160 Snuffer-sized VPA would come in at over 350 grains...maybe 400 or more. The market for such a head just wouldn't support the tooling and marketing requirements.
If they take a 400 gr screw in, hack off the threads, taper drill out the center,(about 125gr-the same as a steel adapter) and you get a 275 gr glue on ...PERFECT!!! I'll take a dozen !!! I have used the 190 gr glue ons this year but like my 160 snuffers better
I've used the 1 1/8" 190 glue on VPA and like it a lot, enuf to carry them in stock, but would like a wider one, too. Consider tho, that the VPA's are machined from a single piece of steel. If they go up in diameter, they have to start with larger stock which COSTS more and there is gonna be a lot more waste. At $10+ each, they are already in the premium price range and many of us aren't yet ready to pay that for broadheads. They are worth it to me, but I'm probably not gonna buy a dozen. I am gonna try some 250's, tho.
