Title: Wes Wallace bow - The Mentor.
Post by: carlo1404 on April 06, 2010, 03:01:00 AM
I will have info about this bow.... A friend of a friend of mine will sell his Mentor 62" 45# at 28". I don't know before about this bow and have never shoot with, but I like it. It have Rosewood/Shedua riser and Red Elm limbs with antler tips.
I read it's smooth and fast, as my friend says.
My draw is 29,5", with my Hoyt GM2 I use Easton ACC 500+125gr points, Easton Redline 460+100gr points or GoldTip 3555+100gr points.
Do you think are good set of arrows to use with Mentor??
Thanks for any info about.
Carlo

I wish that friend of yours was a friend of mine, you wouldn't have this problem to figure out!
I think your 500 spined carbons are a good place to start.

I would also try 1916 aluminums, but probably end up using my shoot-from-almost-everything 2013s. 2016 will likely work at your draw with a little more weight up front.

CE Heritage 90 with little weight in front, Heritage 150 with a lot.

Thank you Killdeer,
I use also XX78-2114 or ACKinetics 430 with 125gr points with my BW PL3 longbow 45# at 28" ... I try to use theese also... but I think don't work better...
I never use CE shaft.... do you think it's better than Gold Tip..???

Carlo,
Try the 2114's- I have had good luck with them out of bows from 45-52#.The carbons you have should also fly fine with your bow. I have a mentor, 54#@29, and shoot CE 250's,100 gr. insert, 145 head. They shoot like darts. My mentor is a fine bow but due to continued unemployment may be on the block soon but when things turn around will have another. Great bows.

Do you have any photos of the Mentor? I would love to see it since I've been thinking of buying a 66" one-piece recurve and the Mentor is one of my three choices.

I shoot a Bob Lee Classic 62" 46@28 with Easton Axis at 29.5" with 75 Gr brass insert and 165 gr point my bare shaft groups with the rest of my arrow out to 20 yards. I have not shot this arrow with my heavier limbs they are 51@28 but I think it will work fine might have to drop some insert weight.

That is a rocking bow.  Wes makes a great product.  Tricia and I have two of his longbows and two more on order.

Hi Felix.... I sold my BW PLV .... it's a good excellent shooting bow.... but I don't like it very much.... I prefer "Brackenbury" bow riser...like this mentor or similar...
As you says .....fresh cash for another bow.... any news from Piero ??

No,non ha più detto niente.Grazie comunque del tuo interessamento.
I think that the Mentor is a good bow:quiet and forgiving with attention to the details. The price is very competitive too and wes a great guy that stands behind his product.

Cacciatore- Thanks. I did not put together the arrows. Those were custom made for me by Jim Rebuck the award winning arrowsmith and owner of J & M Traditions in Pennsylvania.
I like the physical mass of Wes' bows... more wood to look at. Ha! Mike
