Title: Delima...feel free to help with advise
Post by: L. E. Carroll on April 01, 2010, 11:42:00 PM
I have a bear hunt in AK right around the corner.  I was hoping to use my AD trad lites with the new Wide [1 1/4"] 250gn. screw in VPA Broadheads for a total wt. right at 625... Ok, they fly pretty well from my "new to me" 58# Kwyk Styk.  However, when I screwed the same head on my GT 5575's tonight, I was getting 3" 3 shot groups right in the sweet spot on my 3D deer target at 20 yds. This set up comes in right at 560gn.. I'm pretty sure this will work, and prefer the added confidence of this type of accuracy... over the AD, at a bit heavier total wt but lesser degree of accuracy.... So do I go with the GT's for an accurate arrow or the AD's for the increase in total arrow wt?

Next question, I have been shooting a "chosen bow" right along, in preperation for this hunt... we all know that's a "Good Thing".

Well, when I get in a new bow I always do a bit of paper tuning and perhaps some crono time, just to see what I'm getting.   :knothead:

So, I have 7 weeks to finish my preperations and practice for this  [ for me... probably once in a lifetime hunt]... would you suggest staying with the bow I have been shooting or switching to this KS?  Is 7 weeks enough time?   :help:

I'd take the more accurate set up all the way around.

I would lean toward accuracy also.  Black bear are not particulary hard to shoot through.

I agree. Black bear are bot hard to kill but you don't want one "angry" with you. Go with accuracy.

Accuracy is the supreme factor, but don't think that a few good shots is indicative of overall accuracy of the bow. You may just be concentrating more on your shooting because the bow/arrows are new. Use them for awhile and see if it is real. If it is, go with the more accurate combination. Personally, I am sure you will do well with whatever you decide to take, Gene. That is because you make good choices and have the experience.

Accuracy is always the right answer.  A lighter arrow in the boiler room always beats the heavier arrow in the wrong spot.

I've told you my answer already about the bow bud. But as far as the arrows, go with the GT's!

Gold Tips all day.. If you want more weight add 3/16" Poly rope in the shafts. This adds right at 100 grains to my GTs and has not effected the spine in my experience...

Dang it! I was hoping to open this thread and find that you wanted someone to house your extra bows.

It's already been said... accuracy and sharpness!!

God bless,Mudd

I've killed several bears with arrows of that weight and all were pass thrus. You really need to shoot the most accurate arrows you can. A miss or poor hit with a heavy arrow is much less desireable than a perfect hit with a lighter one.

All of the above.
