Title: PA bowhunting questions
Post by: kshunter55 on March 30, 2010, 09:55:00 PM
I am going to be in Erie PA in April playing baseball for the double A organization for the detroit tigers.  Wondering about turkey hunting there and if any one shoots trad.

I grew up in PA and just talked with my brother who lives there tonight (SW PA) who commented about the high turkey population this spring.  You won't have trouble finding turkeys, and there is probably some decent public land close by.  The problem is competing with the gun hunters, of which there are plenty in PA.  Your best hope is for some kind Tradganger to offer to take you onto private land where it will be safer.  You might also try the United Bowhunters of PA, maybe a UBP member can help.

Andy,
I live in the Erie area. There are plenty of traditional archers around. We shoot at a local archery shop called Outpost Archery, about 20 minutes west of Erie in Fairview,PA. It's right on Route 20. PM me when you get here, and we can get together. There are usually 3D shoots that we all attend every Sunday. Look forward to meeting you.

After you get done with the morning hunt, grab a flyrod and get in on the spring steelhead.

Lots of public land areas an lots of trad archers in area, Large trad shoot coming up on Memoril day weekend about 10 miles south of Erie. Presque Isle Field Archers  on Moore Rd. between rt19 an 97 easy to find an last year we had 200 people from as far away as Tenn. If ya get a chance stop by. Also hope to see ya at the ball park, Whats your Jersey #, an good luck in your baseball career. Later Bob

kshunter55, I live 30 miles south of Erie and have plenty of private acres to hunt if the dates would work out.  You're going to be too early for the birds unless you're here until May 1st.  If you are drop me a PM and I'll gladly let you come along with my son and I who stricly shoot longbows and recurves.

ks, I forgot to add that the Meadville Field archers are having their annual 3-D turkey shoot on the 24-25th of April.  Plenty of trad guys shoot there.

Plenty of turkeys all around Erie. There is also plenty of State Game lands to hunt close to Erie, within 30 miles.  Best Steelhead and Smallmouth bass fishing in the world. Presque Isle archery club is all trad. shooters and is minutes out of Erie. Hook up there and you will meet some nice people. Good luck with the Erie Seawolfs. My son played his high school playoffs on their field. You will like Erie.
