Made it out to the pheasant club I belong to the other day... to be fair, it's a shooting preserve, but when you're flinging arrows at 'em it's a bit more of a "hunt"....
kicked up 9 birds... first bird of the day looked like it blew up! Feathers everywhere, and the bird continued to fly another 200 yards out of sight.. never found it. Just hit the tail end of the bird I think.
Here's a pic of a close miss... note the arrow in the air

And the puppies locked up, hard at work...

pointers sure make it a bit easier! Tried to shoot behind my flushing lab a few weeks ago. Got a few shots off, and took a few tail feathers off of one flying perpendicular to us about 15 yards out from right to left. A great shot if I do say so myself, but nothing to show but feathers, so I guess not quite as great as it should have been!
Finally, everything fell into place, and I took one right through the neck with the field tip and adder... dropped like a rock! My dad snapped the pic at the perfect time too!

One thing I did notice on the picture is my HORRIBLE follow through! Release hand is up and out, dropped my bow arm, leaning backwards (that's in part because of shooting upward I tell myself). Please feel free to beat me up a bit on this aspect of it! I need to work on that!
Good Times though! My buddy went along and I loaned him my Ferguson longbow, and he even got one out of the air! A great day out doors!!!
Great adventure I have also done that at a local club but no success just misses. Thanks for sharing great pictures.
Now that is neat! Great photos....
Great photos!
Fine shooting, and great photography! Well-done!
Cool - looks like fun to me !
What kind of dog is closest- in the picture?
Nobody better say anything about your form...you hit the target for a clean kill. I'd rather have that any day than the most perfect form.
Well done, thanks for sharing it.
Very cool.
Flying bird in the neck and you wanna talk form? Like JC said - nice shooting!!!!!!!! and cool pics.
Great pictures! Looks like a great time shooting too! Thanks!

My thoughts exactly. BTW, I love that first pic with the arrow closing in on the bird.
that looks like a great timefor sure! Thanks for thepics.
Great pictures !! Great shooting !!
That is so cool. I just went a couple of weeks ago for my first time. I had all misses (except for the one hen the guide talked me into shooting on the ground right before we were finished) and had a blast. That is a real challenge and I can't wait to be able to try it again. I WILL shoot one out of the air someday.
Congrats on a great accomplishment.

Holy-cow, I hope I'm that good someday.Great shooting with the bow and camera.
The pups weren't mine but I thnk they were both shorthairs.
Wow, I would love to try that. It really looks like a blast......
Great shooting, great pics and great form, Just wish we had pheasants down here.
Tough to have good "form" when you are foing something so fluid as shooting a flying bird!
Great job, it sure feels good when you connect!!!
Congrats
Cool, looks like it would be a real blast. :bigsmyl: :archer:
My gosh that is so neat! I would love to try that. Could you please describe your arrows, and let us know the weight of your bow? I got the field point and adder but what about fletching?
thanks for sharing!
As far as your form goes. Perhaps the right hand thing was what you needed to do to tweek the follow through. You did not drop your bow arm until the arrow was gone, you wanted to see that arrow hit the bird, who wouldn't. At least you were not standing on one foot like me when you shot. Back in the 60s it was a good thing arrows were cheaper, because we had a lot of pheasants around here to shoot at. Not as many wild pheasants these days, but when ever I get the chance, I always skip the deer hunting to have some real fun with my bow.
I'll copy your form if it means hitting flying pheasant! Really great photos!
Thanks all... I was shooting my RER, 49# @ 26" and a light flu flu arrow... not sure on the weight... with a 125 gr field point and an adder. I tried judos in the past, and knocked one down with it, but it ran 20 yards after it hit the ground.
I'll stick with this set up for a while, i think.
Very cool!!!
That is just COOL as it gets.. thanks for the pics.
wow that looks like fun!
