How would you rate the performance of the Maddog longbow?
I just ordered a pup for my son, and I'm looking forward to seeing it! I have a short draw length so I am thinking about ordering a mid-sized longbow for myself. It sounds very reasonable at $200! How do you think it rates versus some of the other R/D bows?
I have a 52" mid-sized,44@26". Bow shoots fantastic! Quiet, quick and shoots where I'm looking.This was a marblewood/myrtle riser w/ bamboo limbs. I have another on order w/ Mike now. Should be done within the month.These are a couple of critters I got w/ mine this season.

I just recieved my bow from Mike. 65" 45#@ 28" ash limbs with a walnut riser. See the "Longbow plain and simple" thread for pictures...
Mike is a heck of a nice guy and great to deal with. He's a fine craftsman and he stands behind his bows 110%.
My son won one of Mikes bows from a vermonster13 drawing.I was amazed at the attention to detail for a kids bow.It shoots great and looks great.I highly recommend him and his work.If he puts half of the attention into an adult bow that he does with a kid bow it would be a bow that I would buy.IMHO of course.And Mike is a classy guy I have much respect for him. :thumbsup:

Kevin, to best describe the performance of my longbows, it does them justice to compare the way they handle to a Bear Montana, or a Martin Stick or any of the bows named after spiders. But I try to keep design and looks simple but every now and then an order comes along where sombody wants me to re-envent the wheel, and I really don't mind that. I will try my best to make maple hot pink, or blue , purple, or green. (that's what diamond wood's for, right?)
The difference with the other longbows I mentioned is mine aren't mass produced and I use little machinery. Infact the only "machinery" I use is the bandsaw to cut out lams and risers, and the drum sander to make the lams the right thickness/taper. Oh I almost forgot I also employ a rotory tool for getting in tight spots and shaping nocks. Other than that, all hand tools.
So while my longbow may perform like bows named after bugs they don't look like them, but for 1/4" the price you really can't expect them to.
To put it in perspective; the fancy high priced bows out there are the Ferrari and my bows are the GMC truck, they'll both get you there, but with the GMC you don't mind getting it a little muddy, with the Ferrari you look cooler and turn heads.
I have both the mid-size longbow and the mid-size recurve. My hubby was so mice to surprise me with a big name custom $550 bow as a present a few years back. I sold it a few months later because it could not touch the Maddog lb. Not to mention that the Maddog was pulling 5# less.
I put and arrow clear through a turkey this winter with my midssize recurve.
I would go with the boo core! Awesome bows! Awesome price! Can't go wrong.

Thanks for the response, Mike. I am more of a "function over form" guy myself. Since I have become aware of your work, I have always liked the look of your bows. I guess I am kind of psychotic when it comes to reviews and second opinions!
I can't wait to check out my boy's longbow. If I can get the money together you may have another order coming in soon.
