With so many things to choose from, what type of solution do you dip/soak your woodies in????
I dip them in a waterbased powder dissolved in water. Called Herdins Water Based I think.. It's not that good though. The colours are nice, but it "stains" my 3rivers lacquer (WB) when I dip before cresting.. The 3R is good, but if you really want durable, there's no beating the oilbased stuff I'm afraid..
Thinned down Minwax Poly Sealant. I try to thin it down so it runs off pretty quick, and doesnt drip long. Fine Steel Wool when Dry, Repeat 5 or 6 Times! Works For Me!!
Thinned down a bit SuperCoat... The best I've ever used on my POC's.
I fill my dipper then dip the shafts and let drip/run off. A few coats is enough.

Oil based quick drying minwax poly. Steelwool inbetween coats. I do about four coats somtimes five.
OOOOPPPPSSSS!
God bless,Mudd
I will apologize up front.
But I have to say it..."With any luck, I like to soak mine in whitetail deer blood."
Just bear with an ole Geezer and his sense of humor or lack thereof...lol
Gasket Laq. from 3RA - works great - fast. H
You don't have to dip it if you choose the just mentioned gasket lacquer., very clean and quick, by the time you apply it on the 12th shaft number 1 is ready to go again. 4 coats on a dozen shafts takes about 35 minutes not hurrying and I wait about 10 minutes before continuing.
Mudd, I was thinking the same thing...haha
Gasket lacquer and then blood - me too Mudd
Great minds think alike Mudd! What ever I have, varnish, poly or wax.
BLOOD. (Mudd beat me to it also. and he don't even like makin arrows. do ya Mudd?)
Sometimes I just use gasket laquer or profin. nice stuuf for me. Now I pay people to dip my arrows for me.
JOHN3: what is super coat?
Sorry, I can't respond with my initial reaction to that question!!!! I have had good luck with a Minwax Water Based Polycrylic, about 3 or 4 coats. I crown dip over that finish. Haven't tried the Polycrylic over the crown dip.
I use zip-guard water based urethane sears carries it David
Raptor Dip-water based Poly from Raptorarchery.com
Only use Bohning products now. I tried the other stuff plus more finishes I used while cabinet finishing and nothing works as well as Bohning Fletch Lac. It is a MUST to have good ventilation when using it. The fumes can over come you and there is a danger of the fumes causing a fire (not a big danger but it's there).
Gasket lacquer. 3x and works fine.
I do exactly like John3. It's a bomb proof finish. Some don't like it because of the odor thing but it's hard to beat for looks and durability.
Two Tracks... Supercoat is a Bohning product. It comes pretty thick and they don't recomend thinning but it makes a nicer finish if you do.
i don't dip, i wipe with minwax resin wipe on clear gloss polyu - really durable, low odor, don't waste much by wiping.
don't need more than the polyu, a small swatch of cotton and one rubber glove. i hang the wet shafts by clothes pins nailed to the shop ceiling beams. :D
Minwax Polycrylic and Dalys Profin. Started out using the Minwax and it works okay, quick, cheap, readily available, no fumes. However, the Dalys is much better for durability and resisting target burn. Also when fletching with Duco and Dalys the glue line is almost invisible. JMHO

I'm another Dalys Profin fan. Not much smell, durable, great finish...dip and let hang for 6-8 hrs., steel wool and do this 3 to 4 times.
