is that a chinese snakeheaded fish, very cool mount need to kill as many of those as possible. nice shootin too
Bowfin, grendal, or mudfish in these parts. I like it!
kwell !!! I don't remember ever seeing a bigger bowfin - and what a neat mount!
Looks great, something different than normal. Might borrow your idea for more home decore my wife will not appreciate the way we do.
That's not a snakehead fish. It's a bowfin. Bowfin are native to the U.S.
Very cool mount.
Nice mount! Bowfin's are fighters!

Thats really nice.
nice mount, btw, the ams slide is on backwards.
That looks great. I really like the little coyote mount too.
Is that the guest room or are you single? Nice fish and cool mount with the arrow.
NICE MOUNT
I have never seen, or even heard, of a mount like that. Super cool looking! Really like how the arrow is included in the mount.
Congrats! Should be a real conversation starter at dinner parties.
nice mount,congrats.
thanks guys! and yeah this is our guest bedroom:) my wife makes me hide all my stuff in here.
ozy clint- i just noticed the slide, ill have to fix it. its gonna bug me now!!
Love to see the rough fish mounts. Don't want to lip one of those do You !!
WHO EVER DID THAT DID A FANTASTIC JOB....NICE.
well guys, wish me luck. im gonna try to shoot a big gar today to mount! ive shot some nice ones so far this month but i want a big needlnose to mount next to this bowfin.
I hooked what I thought was a very large bass on a spinnerbait in SC some years ago and it was a monster bowfin. Those things give me the creeps. Your taxidermist did a great job.
That's a $100 dogfish at the GLBC the first weekend of June! Cool mount. I've seen carp done like that, never a bowfin (dogfish).
Great shot! You pinned that bowfin to a piece of driftwood with your arrow! That takes some talent! Joking aside, cool mount!
That is sweet
Love the mount. I really liked what you did with the coyote too. I think that'll be what I do with a coyote if I can ever get one with my bow. They are my nemesis.
yeah the same taxidermist did all the animals. not the skulls on the table though. those are just smaller hog skulls. but on the opposite wall i have a killer coyote skull he did just a few weeks ago. it was the first coyote i called in with my own call and with a shotgun to boot! the pedestal coyote mount was from 3 yrs ago. she was a beauty.
Very nice
<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>
Awsome!! Neat idea.
It's really, really nice... but no strange looking creature like that in these parts!

Please post the pic again, I want to see it!
i resized them on photobucket. put them back up but still look big. maybe someone can fix it, if its a problem.
thanks
I was going to speculate that you were single when I saw that bedroom, but you cleared that up nicely a page back! :D
Man, I'd be privilaged to stay in such a "guest house".
Cool mounts man. Just getting them has to be 2 evenings worth of great tales!
Awesome mount I have shot quite a few bowfin but I aint never seen one that big. Congrats on a great fish and a great mount.
Ken,
My grandfather used to own a fish camp north of Midland, Ontario (Honey Harbour, on Georgian Bay). They had grindel (bowfin) there. A friend of his "lipped" a big bass he caught-only it wasn't a bass, it was a grindel. Chewed his thumb up real bad.
Nope, you sure don't want to lip one! Their mouths are septic, and it's an almost instant infection if they bite you. Lots of them in MS. I've arrowed a few, and caught a near 10 pounder on light tackle- what a fight! They do look very much like the snake-headed fish except for color, must be a close relative.
Great mount. Ive never seen a bowfin can you eat them?
Lucas
Very Cool Brandon! Skyler wants one Now......We shot a pile of Big Buff's Friday night..Flooded Corn Field....Beautiful Mount!
thanks don! we've also been shooting some big buffalos and commons in flooded fields, over here at the refuge.
Supposedly, you can make a pretty tasty chowder out of mudfish. The only time I tried cooking them, one bite was more than enough to convince me I wasn't very hungry. A real strong and muddy taste and a texture like having a mouthful of cotton. They have rudimentary lungs, so can actually breath air, out of the water, for a period. If they come from a place that all but dried, that may be the cause for the muddy taste.
I've never seen that done before.....I like it !!
They are slimey and smell strong too.
Interesting mount.....
Love it. Caught one with an old friend when I lived in Indiana. Told the story to my old fishin and huntin buddies in Nebraska. They thought I was telling a whopper :biglaugh: In all my days, I'd never seen one. Thought old Tyler was pulling my leg when they started the yarns on dogfish.
But then again when I started telling stories about wipers, them boys thought I was strait out stretchin it.
Nice Mount. I could live in that guest room.
Very cool, thanks!
Thats not a Bowfin thats an Arkansas Cypress Trout
