or are you driving to Mexico, if so you will pass to my city and I will gladly invite you for a good steak,
I am 2hrs from laredo
I'm between Great Falls and Lewistown, Let me know when your coming by, and we could fling a few. And eat something, If you need a place to crash that will work too. Layton
Have a great trip, Jerry! I hope you soon meet-up with your PCH!
mabye you should swing by Maryland??? :biglaugh: man that is a long trip, what the occassion?? I thought all the turkey threads got your blood pumpin, lol
Thanks all - Gerardo - I will be driving with my buddy to puerto vallarta.

L.Perry if you pm with your phone number.
GREAT NEWS FROM BLACK WIDOW TOO.
Roger phoned me and they missed my weight on my bow CRAP..
BUT he is sending a loaner to Denver so I can use it on my trip..I have a couple of weeks off.
He is sending me a 58" 60# PCH...so terry I need an idea of what arrows will work.
I have the AD's trads....I need to cut them and I have 165 grain head with 100 grain inserts, and a 28" draw.
They are full length right now.
I am looking to hunt SOMETHING on my way down if there is anyone that can help me out..great.
see first post to see my route.
Can't wait till Monday when i fly outta here.
Jer Bear

Respectfully....
How long has it been since you've even shot a bow?
Not to mention you'll have an unfamiliar bow and arrows...but you want to hunt?
If you are driving through Red Deer Jerry, give me a buzz, I am on nights then so should be around, bring your arrows and I can cut them for you, maybe even glue the tips in for you, some people like them secure. I can ruin you, I will offer one of my Kempf bows to carry you over until you get yours, bring it back in May.
Terry
Bowshot that's great and thanks for the offer....Maybe I will see you, but my timing is not long in red deer this trip.
My May trip will be better
I have a bow coming from BW a loner PCH 58" @ 60#...till mine gets done and it will meet me in Denver.
I am meeting up with Tommy Clum in Denver to tune the bow in on the range.....If i feel good then I will see about hunting something.
3D's hopefully and lots of range roaming.
Guru...it's been awhile and I appreciate your concern...but I limit myself to a comfortable distance when I hunt anyway - under 15 first part of the year and then it moves out a bit when i get more time in...to me getting close is everything. Last bear I shot was under 10 yards on the ground.
If the bow feels good then I will shoot it good no matter how much I practice I hit a peak early and then I keep to that distance.
I have been shooting bows all my life. The biggest bear I got was with a loner I had shot only 6 arrows out of...It felt good and could hit what I was aiming at.
You might think that is not acceptable, but I learn faster than most ppl. I have a natural ability (don't know how that is) to be able to judge things.
I was a pitcher in baseball..never pitched before...our pitcher got hurt I went in...I could throw a 3 foot curve ball and a sinker that would make your head swim...how I did it..dunno.
I quarter backed our football team and I was a wide reciever at the time...two quartebacks were injured and I could throw.
I knew the plays from being the wide reciever...I went in and did ok. Was the starter the next year no previuos experience.
Not being cocky at all so don't get the wrong idea.
as far as my abilities with a bow...well only I know that I will see how it goes.
I appreciate your concern, but I won't be out there FLINGING ARROWS....I have too much respect for my game for that.
If I am not up to it...I will just practice...but if it comes back like it usually does then i am good to go.
I only practice about 3 weeks before the season normally anyway.....I have too many things that I love to do so my archery time is what it is.
I practice until I am comfortable and then i limit my shots.
thanks
Jer
So I made it to Red deer yesterday.
I have a great car to drive to mexico aa G8. WOW
So I will be heading for the border today. Hope all the paper work gets me across....
I will be phoning Layton today when I get close..probably his evening. Nice weather plus 16 celsius....BW has shipped the bow to Denver...
I will catch up with Tommy there and shoot with his gang..
I will add pics as I go.
Thanks for all the warm wishes..can't wait to meet some of the gang.
Terry Brew (bowshot) I will make sure we meet in May ok....I have to do some work on my bike today while I am down here.
Jer Bear
Hey Jerry, I am in Georgetown Tx just north of Austin. If you are through here on IH35 we can shoot a bit. Don't know if I could find a place to pig hunt but we could still shoot a bit.

Bisch

Jer
Good luck Jerry and enjoy the scenery in Wyoming. Came through there a week ago for the third time and it's awesome. West of Cheyenne i seen a huge herd of Elk. Was going to stop and visit with Ferret but the driver was on a misson and i got out voted. Maybe next time. Have a safe trip. Vic
Thanks Vic..yeah that's why i like to travel alone....
So the car is loaded and I have plenty of arrows...was up all night making these before I left....the bow is on her way to Denver so I am bowless till then..maybe I will shoot somebodies on the way...hmm

I think I could find a bow or two for you to shoot.
Have a safe and fun trip brother! I will be praying for you.
God bless,Mudd
There is a lot going on in Mexico right now with the durg cartel, killings and such, and the Border Patrol is discouraging tourism and travel south of the border. Just a warning to use precaution and stay alert especially in the border towns. Nuevo Laredo was one of the areas mentioned.
Louis
I will take care and thanks for the heads up Louis and thanks Mudd.
I will check with Gerardo before I get close and I will see Gilbert in San Antonio first.
Gerardo said to stop by and he is hours from loredo on the mexico side.
Jer
so I am in great fall montana....met some great ppl so far.
I am heading to see Layton Perry who is close to lewiston mt.
some great country here.
jer bear
Be safe Jerry.
so i made it to cheyenne so far...wild weather from billings south.
Met Layton Perry...what a nice guy....pics and video to follow.
We had a good visit and got to shoot one of his silver tips..60# at my draw....my arm is fine and i shot pretty good i think in a stong wind.
15 yards will be my distance i think.
he has a great place there...generations of history in his family.
so i spent a couple of hours there and headed the back roads to boseman to get my boot...nice pics later.
so then it was a storm after billings....4 inches of slush with a sports car isn't much fun...finally found a pull out after 130 miles of 35 mph and sliding around. they need more pull outs.
i arrived in cheyenne this morning and met Randy burtis - ferrtewyo.....another really nice fella. we had breaKY and went and shot some arrows (borrowed a longbow he just won at a banquet) nice bow.
the ad's sem to be shooting real well...pic to follow when i get off the road.
anyway i am off to golden/denver co
be ther in a coule of hours..gues the loner is there waiting.
Tommy if you could txt me it would be great to get together with you.
867-334-7781
having a blast - can't wait to have just one bow to shoot and get used to though.....
jer bear

Keep on keeping on Jerry. We're following along with you and enjoying every mile of your trip.
God bless you brother!
Mudd
If you travel from Denver to Raton, drive safely... horrible winds today.
May God bless you and keep you safe on your journey.
Josh
Jerry, I am just south of Laredo and might be able to get you a place to hunt on your way back up.
On a side note...make sure to remove the broadheads from your arrows before heading into Mexico and keep them in a different place. You will more than likely get stopped at some Military Check points and they will go thru everything..I do mean everything. The soldiers are pretty good to deal with and when asked why you have the bow and arrows, let them know that you were invited to shoot at the Grand Slam Norte in Monterrey, which is where Gerardo is located by the way.
Good luck on your trip and be safe.
so I am in Denver and the bow arrived and I am going to shoot with Tommy and his dad tomorrow at 7 am.
heres a few pics

weather changed a bit
(http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg163/jerbearyukon/mexico%20trip/IMG_4811.jpg)
i left billing to buffalo and then to cheyenne and the weather turned nasty especially with a G8 with road tires - not grips.
more to come
i had to go 135 miles in 4 inches of slush at 35 mph before i could find a reststop....crawled into my sleeping bag and intgo the back seat for a 4 hour nap..

this was my fist three shots (yellows on the right)with his 57# longbow..sorry forgot the type..think it's a ferrett but I could be wrong...I am typing this with 5 hours of sleep since i left red deer on tuesday at 1:30 pm...alittle bushed
first one was the high one - second the next highest one and the third I had it zero'd in.
Nice to be shooting again...arm feels great

Good stuff, Jerry.
thanks ben.....great day planned for tomorrow too.
Jer
Jerry, your inbox is full.
fixed the inbox I think.
Anyway I met some great ppl today....The fella's at the Bowshop here...RMSgear.com ...(hope I spelt it right...check it later are awesome.
This is what showed up for me..PCH bow - 58" @ 60#...case and I put my arrows in it and was ready to shoot....hmm gotta phone Tommy.
Tom (the dad) has been running the shop for 15 years and his two sons Tommy (his 28th birthday today) and Danny work there too.
Talk about knowledgeable and great shooters.
Tommy invited me to go to the 3D range with them this morning Danny (their resident flyfishing guide is going to help me out with some spots to wet a line too)had some prior plans so we were set.
Started out a bit chilly - 32 degrees but it heated up nice later in the morning and was down right tropical.
So I met Tommy at the shop to shoot a few arrows incase I need anything but the arrows shot like darts out of the PCH...if mine shoots like this at 58# and a 56" bow I will be tickled pink.
So we drove to the range and met Tommy's dad Tom and we grabbed the bows and headed out.
There were mulies feeding on the hillside behind the range already.
so the first target was a bear...this was my first shot at 15 yards kneeling
(http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg163/jerbearyukon/IMG_4877.jpg)
Not bad for a NEW BOW and NEW ARROWS.
Tom shot them too ( the ads on this target and they flew like darts too out his bow (pics to follow).
Second target was a stand for a moose at about 40 yards...this is Tommy and Tom looking it over
(http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg163/jerbearyukon/IMG_4879.jpg)
THis is Tommy shooting
(http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg163/jerbearyukon/IMG_4880.jpg)
This is Tom shooting a deer target...great shooting.
mlore to come have to go to supper
Those guys are some of the good ones. I have dealt with them a couple of times. They are the folks that hooked me up with my spirit bow.
Keep safe buddy, still got you covered in prayer.
God bless,Mudd
If you get a chance to hunt with gatorgar-then definately do it. He will definately get you on some pigs. I just left San Antonio area and it is HOT!!!!! Never made it back down to Zapata to see my bud gatorgar due to schedules this time. Don't miss the opportunity. Gerardo is some good people too. Be careful at the border, still pretty hairy in those parts. Good luck!
I pm'd gatorgar..thanks for the heads up....pretty confident that ANYTHING in my 15 yard comfort range is gonna be hurting with this bow.
The shooting is coming back real quick...gonna spend some time today after the 3d shoot with Tom and his buddy shooting with a real light bow though and get my good form back.
It's real good right now for 15 yards, but you can see at the 40 yard ones i am a little rusty (would shoot that far anyway).
Jer
UPDATE FROM YESTERDAY..
Did I mention these guys have a top shelf shop and they are so great with customers.
They really help ppl out WHERE THEY ARE....if they have shot before they help where thay can...if they are green they show them the best way to get started.
ppl were coming in all day with questions and concerns and bows you name it...never saw anyone leave that shop ( and I was there most of the dau just hanging out) that wasn't better off that they stopped there.
Now back to the range from yesterday.
we were shooting this buck from about 40 yards and then at fifteen.
I have a coupla arrows that missed the kill zone (the bright yellow ones) but it was at forty yards...then we moved into 15 and they tightened right up (I think my cataract surgery has not helped my long distance vision...fix that up when I get home).
but as you can see we all sprayed some way out..but in close we were way better.
here's tommy shooting a deer or a bear..can't see it real well sorry.

Jerry, thanks for sharing with us,most places and faces are familiar with me since here.Very nice BW.Take care.
Tom and his staff are top-notch!
Very cool thread.
I didn't want to say it, but I'm going to anyway. If you can shoot, you can shoot.....period. If my "new" Widow gets to DE by Friday, it'll be with me Saturday.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks everyone....this PCH and the AD's are down right deadly period....I think I have found the curve that I have been looking for.
If the one I am getting is half as good as this one I will be a happy camper.
SO WE WENT TO A 3D TOURNEY TODAY:
Tom and his wife Chris met for breaky and headed out. She hadn't shot for about 6 months...but she did real well. Tom ended up winning our category..he has great form.
So we signed up...GALE FORCE WINDS,,,,WOW.

It was a great day....helping a friend put up some lights tomorrow and then off to Carbondale to do some business and some fly fishing monday.
Probably heading to texas on wed morning.
This has been such a wonderful trip you can't imagine.....All I can say to the ppl that thought I was NUTS....WELL OK but they aren't having the fun I am and meeting the ppl I am...
Cheers Jer
I'm really happy for you Jerry! You're being a great ambassador for all of us. Thank you! And thank you for sharing it all with us, with pictures too!
Keep on keeping on buddy!!!!! Be safe!!
HAPPY EASTER!! HE HAS RISEN!!
God bless,Mudd
Thanks Mudd....I don't know about the ambassador thang..but I am having so much fun it should be illegal.
From red deer to Montana to cheyenne to denver it has been like a fairy tale dream. Great ppl opening up there home and their time for a lowly canadian like me from the frozen north is enough to warm the hearts of anyone.
I really don't want to leave Denver though...It is close to all the places I love and the country here is spectacular.
Montana is beautiful too and there are three places i would move to in a heart beat so far.
Montana - northern idaho - denver area.
Jer Bear :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:
So I am heading south on tuesday or wed morning
Looks like I will be coming through Georgetown tx to see Jerome
then to San Antonio to see (Amicus) Gilbert
Then to Zapata to see Gatorgar - Alex.
Will let you guys know the timing when I get outta here.
So Jerome is you can pm me you info or txt me
867-334-7781 then I will have the contact info ok.
You might have sent it, but with all the traveling and busy (but fun schedule) i don't have everyones info.
See you soon fella's
Jer Bear
Thanks again...
Have a safe trip!
you are having a dream trip, see you soon,
Gerardo
I am and I will see you soon too. Can't wait
Jer
Awesome trip, nice to catch up with fellow trad shooters
Yes it sure is nice to meet some of the ppl that are on this site.....so far they are all top notch IMHO.
Gerardo phoned me today when I was in aspen co and told me to stop by and stay with him for a few days....think i will take him up on it for sure.
seems like a real nice fella...maybe he can teach me some spanish too to help me with my trip.
Going fishing right now in Basalt on the roaring fork river (think that's what it is called.
Pics to follow
jer bear
So I ended up in Basalt co - 20 miles from aspen yesterday afternoon...thought I would try some flyfishing in these famous rivers here....
The Fryingpan and the Roaring Fork..Never fished here so I went into a local flyshop here " TAYLOR CREEK FLY SHOP" that was recommended by Danny Clum at RMS.
If you ever come through here lookk these guys up - they have guides etc.
The guys were great...but the midges the use....crap are you kidding me LOL.
size 20....what are you going to catch with that...hmmm.
well I take this fly and try and tie it one to my USUAL 8 pound test...NO GO FOR SURE.
I am used to using a 4 - 5 inch woollybugger and catching a 6 inch grayling or bigger.
Well when in ROME. So I tie on some 5x tippet (smallest I had).
go out the back of there shop and proceed to cast this out there...WHAMMMM...fish on (exicitement happening in my chest)....oops fish gone...
I have never caught a brown trout...so I keep fishing lost another one....then some kids came by and threw a bunch of rocks in the river (NICE).
So I jump in the car and head out of town a ways. Back in the river...check over a likely spot.....this huge fish rolls in front of me..WOW.
SO I go down stream cross the river and sneak up on him. I toss this tiny little midge..nothin. NADA.
a couple of more casts...nothing...so I switch to a bitchcreek nymph....WHAM.....big hit a tug and GONSOLONZO.
NOW THIS IS THE WEIRD THING....i look down at my rod and it has brown specks all over it. It was windy and a light rain....about 50 degrees.
then it just keeps getting browner...my coat is covered too. I am in a friggin MUDD STORM....MUDD you made it to CO bud.
I go back to the car - IT WAS LATE - this is what I found
(http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg163/jerbearyukon/IMG_5017.jpg)
Time to get a motel room. I talk with the locals and they say the winds from the west take the dust into the upper atmosphere and then when it rains it make MUD...WIERD.
SO I wake up to this:
4 inches of semi-wet snow - mud frozen on the G8...not a good combo....anyway I am off to the car wash and then the river for another go.
THen back to Denver to see the boyz at RMS and then off to texas tomorrow.
Been a grrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat trip so far though.
Glad I can share it with you all...
:bigsmyl:
Jer Bear
:bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:
Dam its a pity im not still in Gunnison Mate id have had you out on some Great Fly fishing!
and right now would be perfect for a few of my Pike and Brown honey holes.
Bit of Shed hunting while stump shooting in the mountains would be good right now too.
Keep safe!
You just never know when and where I'm gonna show up...lol The guys on this last seasons pig hunt didn't recognize me when they were wallowing thru it with Rob doing his version of driving...lol
Keep on keeping on Buddy and be safe!
God bless,Mudd
Good on ya, Jerry!
COLORADO is surpirsing!!!!!!
well i made it back through a major storm yesterday....all the trucks were chaining up for the passes.
another day of 35 mph for a few hours.
Heading out today...south....snowing like crazy in denver this morning.
said goodbye to a new friend yesterday..Tom Clum. Danny and Tommy and his wife Chris were really good to me...and I will miss them.
top shelf ppl...we will keep in touch.
I will be leaving the family I have stayed with too. Dennis and Linda Williams of Linden Engineering (if you need anything mechanical fixed in the Denver area or elsewhere - from TANKS to Landrovers - Mogs - pinzgauers..well I haven't seen anything he can't fix CALL DENNIS.
HE IS AMAZING.
So my trip starts out snowy today, but hopefully as I head south it will improve
Cheers....thanks for all the well wishes.
Jer
Well he made it down here this afternoon and we got in a short trip to the lease. Grand total...3 bunnies, 0 javies
Maybe tomorrow. And don't believe everything he is going to say about me...I promise you, t ain't all true
Well well Alex - you beat me to the punch oh well.
Anyway I had quite a trip from Denver to San Antonio and then on to Zapata.
(http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg163/jerbearyukon/th_MVI_5187.jpg) (http://s248.photobucket.com/albums/gg163/jerbearyukon/?action=view¤t=MVI_5187.flv)
Met (Amicus) Gilbert in San Antonio for lunch and a brief chat....real down to earth guy for sure.
Talked alot about hunting..my trip so far and some horse stuff.
He gave me a well deserved break from sitting in the car. Got about 4 hours sleep from Denver to Zapata - 1200 miles...
Lots of scenery changes...
This was what it looked like when I started out.
(http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg163/jerbearyukon/th_MVI_5084.jpg) (http://s248.photobucket.com/albums/gg163/jerbearyukon/?action=view¤t=MVI_5084.flv)
This is just into texas from New Mexico.
(http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg163/jerbearyukon/th_MVI_5153.jpg) (http://s248.photobucket.com/albums/gg163/jerbearyukon/?action=view¤t=MVI_5153.flv)
Finally arrived in Zapata after talking to Alex on the phone to figure out which route to take here...trust me he had a better route than the one I had planned.
Met him at the gas station..
Then we were of to meet George (owner of the lease)..chatted swapped war stories etc.
We were off to the lease. Hadn't shot the widow for about 4 days..so we picked a few clumps (rabbits) to shoot at.
After a few misses at 40+ yards (near misses btw) we honed in...
I got this fella through a bush at 15 yards
(http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg163/jerbearyukon/IMG_5215.jpg)
then Alex took this fella at about 10 yards through a thick bush.
Then he wanted to try the widow...hmmm I think he is in LOVE. He shot a white flower off the stem at 12 yards and then tries a 50 yarder at a cottontail (just missed)
Then this vid he nails this cottontail at 20+ yards through the head....his smile says everything I think.
(http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg163/jerbearyukon/th_MVI_5221.jpg) (http://s248.photobucket.com/albums/gg163/jerbearyukon/?action=view¤t=MVI_5221.flv)
Then he says to me that he can't shoot well...you be the judge...even lets down waiting for the right shot..then loads her up again...bingo.
ONLY THREE SHOTS - TWO SHOTS BEFORE THIS ONE and with those AD'S he puts it right though this bunnys lookers...
great shooting I would say.
Javi's tomorrow...great start I think
Jer BEar
Dunno but he (gatorgar - Alex) looks like he like this BW PCH - AD combo...
So while we were waiting for javi's he started stipping the rabbits for George.
(http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg163/jerbearyukon/th_MVI_5219.jpg) (http://s248.photobucket.com/albums/gg163/jerbearyukon/?action=view¤t=MVI_5219.flv)
This has been a great trip so far...anyone who hasn't shot this PCH BOW should think about it really hard.
Jer Bear
Congratulations!
Nice trip Jerry, Tom and his wife Chris are two of the nicest people you will ever meet in your life. Great seeing those pictures of them it brought back alot of good memories of some good times.
Wow! Jerry it just keeps getting better and better each day. I'm so excited for you buddy.
It's Friday morning now and I was just sitting here thinking this could be the day you get your shot at some wee little piggie look alikes.
Good luck and keep on keeping on! Thanks for sharing your trip with us.
God bless,Mudd
Great road trip Jerry!
Thanks for sharing this with us.
Well this morning we were up early - 5 bells and off to wait for sun up.....Alex was a bit cold - +60 already....warm for me.
Saw some deer - lots of cottontails and a roadrunner (man are they fast)...took a picture but by the time I got it to focus he was gone.... :biglaugh:
No wonder Wiley was having some trouble catching him.
Anyway - Alex is off to work and I will see him later.
Waiting for some paperwork for the car. Alex told me to ship anything that is not clothing back home and not to take it across the border.
Now my buddy isn't meeting me..so I am a bit nervous, but I am in hopes it will all work out fine (still working on getting my buddy to the border xing atleast to drive back with me to Puerto Vallarta.
Sure is different country down here though..Pretty and the cactus's are blooming. I have changed the weather here in the south...overcast and only 60 now....77 and blue sky and hot yesterday...probably didn't want to burn up the poor CANUCK EH!!!!!!
I will keep you posted....
Jer Bear
So will you stop by in Monterrey? When?
There is a 3d shoot on Sunday!!
Pon
Alex told me not to take the hunting gear across the border.....
I just got a message from my buddy that he will meet me at the border xing on monday.
I would love to do the shoot, but my buddy will have to get right back to Puerto V so I think we will be doing a straight shot.
I will see if I can meet you and gerardo when I come back on my bike.
Sorry...just want to make this seemless going across the border...hope you understand.
Hey if I lived down here and new the customs and even the language better it would make me feel better...maybe it's just fear mongering..dunno...but I just want to be smart about it all.
Jer Bear
I do understand, have a nice trip!!
I will PM you my phone# in case you need any kind of assistance this side of the border
thanks PON - off for a Siesta.
Alex is trying to teach me some spanish...I need to write it down I think....he sure is a great guy.
Jer
I repeat...don't believe everything he says, LOL
Tonight we will get on them, I can feel it in my bones.
Hey Jer,
Im glad to see you made to Zapata. Looks like your having a great time. Hopefully next time we can hunt some piggies.
Jer is a great guy really enjoyed his company.
Yes, my truck is dirty, all the time.
Gilbert
Well they are out at the ranch, hopefully they will get on some javi's today.
Well we saw lots of rabbits and deer.
I think Alex has put the run on the yotes here and the bunnies have taken over as TOP PREDATOR... :bigsmyl:
We are going out tomorrow at 5 bells again to see what we can see....I am getting more and more comfortable with the setting..not afraid (but wary of snakes). Haven't seen one yet, but i am easing into it and am cautious where I walk and always lookinf now...still a green horn though.
Alex is trying to line up a bowfishing day for sunday...WOW WHAT A GUY and Jorge is awesome too.
I can't believe the time they are spending with me to show me a good time. I thought they would help out...but this is OVER-THE-TOP.
They could just drop me off or I could just drive the car out there and walk around, but Jorge has given Alex the key and Alex has been there all the time....
I AM SURE ALEX IS WORKING on TWO HOURS SLEEP SINCE I SHOWED UP and still working with Jorge afterwards WOW....
He will be ready for me to leave for sure by monday morning.
Again I can't say enough about the hospitality I have been shown on this trip so far. :notworthy:
Jer Bear
Amicus....lets do that on my next trip
MY NEXT TRIP - I don't want to wake up this might just be a dream I am having. If it is I hope you all get the same dream soon.
Live today like you were dying....get out your bucket list....make it long....start checking off the list. Nobody knows there end date....
MY DAD SAID..."LIVE YOUR DASH"
that means there is a day you are born and a DASH and the day you expire.....LIFE IS THE DASH.
what will your DASH look like....Mine is LONG already and I am only 53....going on 17.
jer bear
Glad to hear that you are having a good time and Alex is a great guy to be around with just don't let him talk your ear off. Pretty sure he'll get you on a javi and defently a huge gatorgar. Within two months I plan on having an all trad hunt for hog's on the other ranch and I plan on inviting a couple of trad ganger's, Alex the guide extrordiaire will be ram rodding the show.
Jerry you just keep on living the dream my friend and keep us posted. My memories of that part of the world are that there's a bunch of things there that will bite, sting or stick you.... be careful out there and enjoy the journey.
God bless,Mudd
PS Thank you so much for taking us along.
Jorge - I will talk to you later today - I will be back here in june too...such a lucky guy.
Thanks Mudd I will keep my head down and eyes peeled...so far so good.
Might have to fly to Costa Rica on wed from Peurto Valarta...don't ask.....my wife and my daughter are up to something.
Jer Bear

just waiting for Alex to go out this morning...maybe he had a good friday night wink wink....wouldn't blame him...hanging out with me is enough to make anyone go drinking..
jer
So day 2.5-3 I guess.
So on my way out the sun was just coming up
(http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg163/jerbearyukon/IMG_5242.jpg)
a beautiful place on the way there.
so I am making my wish on route
(http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg163/jerbearyukon/th_MVI_5244.jpg) (http://s248.photobucket.com/albums/gg163/jerbearyukon/?action=view¤t=MVI_5244.flv)
then I get there...Alex meets me at the gate...it's later than we usually get there but whatever.
We pour some corn and park the truck. Alex makes up some more arrows and we are glasing the roads.
rabbits...deer...quails...are on the road minutes after we park.
I get the block out and shoot a few to loosen up.
Well it's about 8:30 and we see NO JAVI'S or hogs.
So we head down the road...look up and two javi's walk out of the bush and onto the road...heart starts pounding...FINALLY.
so I freeze..they are at about 80 yards...A;ex says keep walking (I just froze). He says we got the wind kinda just get to the edge of the road and WALK BUD.
so I am in the lead and we get about 45 yards and they are moving sloly towards us. We move into the brush to get a better position down wind and closer.
I am scanning for rattlers and trying to keep from snapping any branches etc. weease up to the road and we still have about 35 yards to go. I am trying to keep calm...BUT I AM EXCITED SORRY!!!!!.
so we get back in the brush and we get in position and wait....Alex is scanning...sun right in my right eye...crap...
ALex motions to me to shoot....I am thinking WHERE.....finally I see them through the cactus (they aren't BLACK like the targets).
anyway he told before to aim at the stripe as it goes past the shoulder..
I still can't shoot so I wait...ALEX is going nuts I think....from where he is he has a clear shot, but not me...
I have my bow out in front waiting to draw...wait ..wait...then I draw...then catch myself AIMING of all things...so I let down..."breath jer breath"
so they walk about 3 feet further munching on the corn....crunch crunch crunch....my heart is pounding...."breath"
So I draw look at the spot...KIND OF....sun in my eyes and shoot....arrow whistles out of the bow..2 inches over the back...it never moved till the arrow hit the bank on the otherside of the road....then they took off.
I stood there in disbelief...12 yards MAX....right over top...
ALex says "white man can shoot Javi's - I swear it" " not on the first try anyway"
Well I was deflated....but I got over it quick.
We went for a walk...I settled down...just about 80 yards from the truck we are coming off a trail and there is a lone Javi.
ALex says "he looks nervous but lets go after him"
so back in the brush we go... I am wat calmer this time....we sneak and sneak...Alex takes his boots off "forget it maaaaaaaaan" anyway we make our way about 55 yards...Alex sneaks out to have a look....he is about 30 yards.
Back in the brush we go....slowly...slowly...doing my best to relax..way better this time.
sneak out to have a peak....GONE.....
So back to the truck we go.
here
s what ALex had to say
(http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg163/jerbearyukon/th_MVI_5246.jpg) (http://s248.photobucket.com/albums/gg163/jerbearyukon/?action=view¤t=MVI_5246.flv)

Keep on keeping on buddy!! We've got you covered from here.
God bless,Mudd
Thanks Gerardo....we may stop by, but we have to make tracks to PV today...I fly out of PV on wed.
I will see you next trip probably...sorry.
We saw a few yesterday morning...but again (and Alex can confirm this) that they were nervous (scared of the canadian getting another shot and missing maybe hahaha).
before the rain I saw these..
(http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg163/jerbearyukon/th_MVI_5250.jpg) (http://s248.photobucket.com/albums/gg163/jerbearyukon/?action=view¤t=MVI_5250.flv)
it was raining...must be the weather that follows me around.
There was a major rain in Loredo yesterday too...crazy.
(http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg163/jerbearyukon/th_MVI_5254.jpg) (http://s248.photobucket.com/albums/gg163/jerbearyukon/?action=view¤t=MVI_5254.flv)
(http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg163/jerbearyukon/th_MVI_5253.jpg) (http://s248.photobucket.com/albums/gg163/jerbearyukon/?action=view¤t=MVI_5253.flv)
Anyway I am off driving to PV today and it's storming and lightning (thought there was only hot weather and sunshine here..TEE HEE)
Probably not the end of this adventure, but it is for the hunting.
Wish I had a javi to show you...but they will live till I get back again I guess.
I would like to thanks everone I have met on this trip and the ppl that have followed along for you friendship and you hospitality.
If nothing else it has made this trip one to remember for always.
Alex is shipping my hunting gear back (said I didn't want to take it across the border).
The bow shoots sweet...can't wait till I get mine. All in all it has been a wonderful trip.
Thanks
Jer Bear
Thats a really cool time Jerry! Alex and Jorge are really fine people too. Sorry we did not get to meet up but maybe next time. Looks like you had a great time.
Congrats,
Bisch
Yipper Bisch I am having a good time.
I ARRIVED SAFELY to PV last night - 16 hours...from Loredo.
Thanks for all the wishes for my safety etc.
I get to do it all again in a coupla months so that's great.
Jer Bear
Glad you made it to PV in one piece Jerry. I was able to ship the bow out this Morning after speaking with a guy over at Black Widow. The rest of your stuff should be in the mail by the weekend.
The Javi's were extremely nervous that last morning, my guess is it was the wind. Gusting up to 30mph and never from one direction. Next time. I'm gonna try to get one this weekend, just to prove that it can be done.
ALEX is Great he definetly was born a hunter!!!!!
Well thanks for confirming the wind thing and them being nervous. they must have been smelling a wierd canuck and not knowing what it was.
Well you got me a shot...that's what i wanted. I missed..that's my fault.
All I know is this and I think everyone is in this boat at some point.
YOU CAN PRACTICE ALL YOU WANT......BUT SHOOTING A LIVE ANIMAL IS DIFFERENT.
I THINK IF YOU LIVE SOME WHERE...WHERE YOU CAN HUNT CRITTERS (NOT JUST SMALL GAME) ALOT IT HELPS.
I KNOW I WAS SHOOTING PRETTY GOOD...BUT WHEN I HAD MY ONE CHANCE SOMETHING HAPPENS INSIDE YOU.
I THINK (AND IT HAPPENS FAST) I AIMED INSTEAD OF JUST LETTING MY INSTINCTS TAKE OVER...
I KNOW IT'S A RESULT OF NOT HAVING MORE HUNTING SITUATIONS ON A REGULAR BASIS.
That's all I have to say about that. YOU NEED to pick your spot at the critical time. I know I saw a whole javi and not just the hair when I shot. That's just the way it goes sometimes.
I had fun and got to meet Alex and jorge which was the best part of Zapata. I will see them soon again.
Can't wait to meet more of you on my next leg of this adventure....May 7th I fly to Red Deer Alberta to start my bike trip..
Hope my bows are ready well before then...
Jer Bear
Thanks Jerry, see you soon maybe in Zapata
I'm proud of your hunt. You didn't make many excuses, got over your miss about as long as it took you to make it and got back out there after them.
God bless,Mudd
Nice to have met a fellow tradganger and archer, I'll be looking to see you soon.
Thanks A;ex for doing all that...we never got checked at the border at all....lots of military and police around though.
Thanks Mudd....Thanks Jorge...it was great to meet you too and thanks for giving Alex the time to show me a good time.
Gerardo...maybe we will meet on the next leg of the trip....hope so.
I am in Costa Rica right now...looking at property...DON'T ASK....it's NUTS.
Jer Bear
So I am in Phoenix on a layover....we had to overnight on a bench..rough one, but I am on a plane at 10am this morning to Vancouver and then back the Yukon on Monday.
Back to 3 weeks of teaching...be good to get back to my wife/family/bed and a bit of a routine too.
Again I would just like to say how much fun I have had...even yesterday I met some ppl just because of the delay and the unplanned overnight.
funny how diversity brings ppl together...love it. While we were waiting in the mexico city airport an older lady traveling with family keeled over....massive heart attack.
Lots of help showed up..CPR - etc...tube down the throat....and adrenaline injection. It was pretty scary....she wasn't breathing.
They finally resusitated her and they put her on a gerny and had a bottle and intervenus (sorry about spelling here).
Sure makes you think though....how important it is to enjoy every moment of you life and tey to make other ppl lives better while you are going through your own.
Initially there was alot of grumbling by different ppl about the delays, but it went away FAST after they saw the lady laying on the ground FIGHTING FOR HER LIFE.
I am so fortunate to have the life I have but it is by design for the most part. yes I have to work...BUT I LOVE WHAT I DO....I am building a residual income to set us free so I can enjoy life more (freee up more time).
I am in hopes that all of you are making the life you truly want everyday. Time you can't get back and experiences are invaluable...MEMORIES is all we have in the end....SO MAKE LOTS OF THEM.
Jer Bear
Those statements are LOADED with truth Jer!
Thanks for sharin' and have a blessed day!
Shoot straight, Shinken
UPDATE
So I made it home this morning at 10:30 - happy to be home...had some real experiences on this trip.
Our delay in Mexico gave me a chance to meet a fella and when we got to Phoenix we both missed our flights...no biggie...we had just seen the worst in mexico right.
So we went to see about tickets - well we were over nighting...no deal on rooms so we decided to hang out ar the 24-7 resturant there and BS'd.
Great guy...funny how that is...if you leave it open for good things to come into your life THEY DO...AMAZING.
We both were flying out the next morning early so we talked till about 3 am and slept on the booth benches...all my gear on a cart I looked like I was homeless....Ok I WAS....
not a very good sleep, but we got up had breaky - hit the bathroom that I decided to share with everyone else :) and shaved put some instant shower on (after shave).
We went through the ticket line and I got a DIRECT FLIGHT to vancouver - original was a stop in LA - so all in all it worked out better.
Well I am anxiuosly awaiting my bow/s - may cancel my ACS...dunno.
Bears are out and I am bowless yet again.
3 weeks and i start the BIG TRIP...hope to see some of you on that trip.
Cheers...happy hunting and good health to all.
Jer Bear
It was great to ride along with you vicariously. I'm glad to know you're home safe and sound. All is right with the world again now...lol
God bless,Mudd
glad you enjoyed it mudd cause i sure did....and thanks for your support and good wishes.
the next one should be more relaxing so i can visit more with ppl and do some shooting and hunting/fishing/biking..
jer bear
Good for you, Jerry! I must've missed it somewhere in there: How far away is your PCH?
dunno Ben - they said the limbs were done but they were going to b 58" instead of 56" and 57#.
Guess I will just get the 58" anyway cause I can't be without a bow right now period...
BEARS ARE OUT and I am BOWLESS.
Jer Bear
