Have seen some of you shooting banana cuts out of your long bows.for 3D. I am thinking of trying them out of my White Wolf Longhunter long bow.for some upcoming 3D shoots. would like to hear the pros and cons. I am only shooting approx. 35 yrds and under.
Some guys use them for hunting as well.I think you will have to try them to see if they fly the way you want. What may work for my set up may not work for yours.Buy a pack and try them out thats the only way to tell how they perform.Check the classifieds for them.Good luck
I have been using them for probably 20 yrs. Love them. I like the way they look. They straighten an arrow out quick, and I don't worry or care if some people think they slow an arrow down too fast. Out to 40 yards I don't think it matters.
Some people talk about noise from them. Some of them make noise in flight especially when they are new, but it never bothers any game. Actually when I was still missing more deer than I hit, I noticed that deer did not pay attention to the arrows with the nanas as compared to parabolic. I really believe it sound more like a bird flying. Go for it
unlike any feather cut with a sharp rearward point that can get ratty and buzz in flight, the banana shape has a smooth transition from front to back, and is as silent a feather fletch in flight as they come.
i set up three different chopper for different cuts: 4.7" hi back for woodies, 4.5" low back, 4" very low back - i only do a 75x105 or 90x90 four fletch.
a 4" 4-fletch has as much usable surface area as a 5" 3-fletch, maybe more. lotsa steerage, too.
I like them, they just look so neat. I shoot them from longbows and recurves. I don't notice any "lack" of performance or extra noise.
I shoot both the bannanas and the shield both seem to work great just depends on what look I want on the arrow at that moment
I like the bananas as well. I like to hand cut mine with scissors so I can create kind of a hump back nanner with the highest point just back of the center of the feather. It makes no difference whatsoever except maybe make them a grain lighter.
Like Rob said, it seems that the more effiecient feather may be the nanner due to its constant degree or curve in the cut. But all different feather shapes will kill all different animals.

Maybe a stupid question Highcountry, but I gotta ask, how do you get the 3/4 barred then 1/4 solid? I really like that look and it seems that it would be almost like a luminock in flight. Having the back of the fletch brighter like that and all.
Those are spliced hardwaymike.
Ferret did a splice along on here not too long ago. Good stuff!
Some fine nanners there.
I don't see how you guys can stomach actually hunting with art. They are too nice for blood.
Thanks Shedrock, I just looked at the how to section and realized that if I can't live without spliced feathers I will definately have to buy them already made, lol.
I did a little picture "teaching" thread a while back. I am pretty slow adding pictures so I just copied the thread; http://tradgang.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=081736
