I have seen some threads about some really beautyful-work of art arrows,I just wanna know do you hunt with those beauties or plain Jaine?I think that our preys deserve the best and a hunt is more memorable if made with equipment that is taken some effort fom us.
ALL my arrows are 'fancy' - even the butt ugly ones. :D
Not everyone has time for work of art arrows. "Our prey deserves the best" then spend time you'd use up makin fancy arras to practice. If you have time for both then thats great. I don't know that a dead critter is going to have any opinions on what killed it. Now in the case of a wounded one, I would think a super fancy bright arra is only going to make it run farther??
I hunt with what I have. If those are the arrows I have done a little extra on then I use them.
I don't crest or dip for any arrows.........still handsome if not pretty

All depends on what you consider "fancy". I usually have a set of arrows custom made when I get a new (or new to me) bow (so I know they are properly spined for the bow, and any flight problems are due to shooting form). After they are gone, I usually hunt with arrows of my own making.
I usually take a little time before each season rolls around to make a nice half dozen arrows to put in my quiver. I guess its my way of getting ready for the season. I shoot my bow almost all summer long and when its time to make the "hunting" arrows, thats when I slip from practice mode to its time to hunt mode.
It depends on what you call fancy.Mine are black with 4" lime feathers. Not much on looks but fly real fancy just the same. :)
I don't shoot pretty wood arrows because I am not putting in the time or money just to break them.I hate breaking a good flying arrow and doing it to one I had lots of time in is just too much for me. :biglaugh:
Fancy or not - they're going down range! H
You all know that the same arrow can be simply or more attractive with some cresting or commercial wrap, slicing and so on,almost the same time to make them, things usually made at night, in the winter, in preparation of the hunting season. This is a pleasure that remind you the past and future hunting seasons. I was used to be more frugal in arrow choice, but I thinkhunting with pretty arrows add something like a nice bow. Also a old beated bow kills animals exactly as well as most inlayed, venered customized one,but isn't nicer to use something more appealing? It is like a woman,do you dream for the old fat nasty one?
I wish I could make Fancy arrow's, mine are more simple.......
Mark, you know that you make fancy arrows, your trade arrow is something that started this thread.
That arrow is for lookin at, Twisted footing takes away some of the strenght, (Info from the shaft maker) I like clean simple lines, not alot of Flash. Thanks for the kinds words Felix...
I wouldn't get caught dead in the woods without my "Fancy Arrows"!
Fancy arrows shoot better! Everyone knows that. LOL
I got some green and white Michigan State Spartan wraps from Onestringer to go with green and white feathers.
When the Spartans make the Final Four, maybe I'll celebrate and shoot one into a shaken beer can. LOL
GO GREEN! GO WHITE!
I'll have to agree with Tater and Mojostick. It should be a state law. Fancy arrows a must. :bigsmyl:
My fancy, crested/crowned AD's from Badger sure are sweet too! I need to get around to getting some more from you.
Most of the time my arrows are crested, but I have been known to for-go all the bling and just make them simple.
I hunt with whatever I'm shooting best with. Some times they're pretty, sometimes they're not.
If I can't hunt with it I don't buy it.And I want the deer to see something pretty before they expire from it.
Something I hear kind of frequently is, "those are too pretty to shoot."
Tell you what folks, pretty arrows shoot just as well as ugly ones, why not use the best looking arrow you can?
That being said, those who make their own arrows don't always have the talent or want to take the time to make a rockin' arrow.
Folks purchasing their arrows may not want to or be able to spend the extra cash for an art arrow.
Guy
I usually dress my arrows in gucci tuxedos :-)
I agree- tastefully fancy is the way to go, lol. Really, would this picture be as nice with raw shafts?
whoa there! please edit all posted pics no wider than 640 - thanx!

Felix, come on now....you know me and "fancy pants" arrows all the way! Practice and hunting both.
I shoot my tradionally crested woodies to hunt deer but for groundhogs and stumping they get my plain jane autumn orange with 3 natural turkey barred feathers and a lime nock. Or maybe a couple of old Dura Flights that I put a crest on to dress up a little.
John,I have not yet forgotten your marble crest;a dozen will take your way soon for some face lift.LOL
When you hunt with fancy arrows the game just fight over who is going to get shot first lol.
I like to dress mine up with blood.
I generally carry around a mix FANCY ARROWS for the broadheads & generally 2 blunts fletched plain.Besides fancy arrows look good in the pics. :goldtooth: (http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm219/bighorncooch/P9050031.jpg)
Bjorn those arrows dont need nothing else. Did you foot them?
You gotta shoot fancy arrows.
What else do you do during the long winters besides making arrows???

That explains some of the seemingly random stampedes I've been in.
After reading all of these posts and looking over to my left, I've decided to name my new company "PurtyButtUgly".
Sorry, just couldn't help myself.
This is a set I just made for an up and coming Fallow deer hunt in a few weeks.
Being new to making my own arrows I made them similar to some made for me by Mr Kidner.
please edit posted images no wider than 640 - thank you!

THIS GUY. Arrows are meant to be shot.
I don't know about fancy. I like them to look good...arrow wraps and feather combination. I do however, really have an appreciation for the beauty of some of the arrows I've seen. Truly artforms, especially feather splicing. It just looks awesome.
I hunt with the arrows that fly the best with a broadhead on them. If they happen to be "fancy" or just plain so be it. I just want the arrow to find it's mark.
Nice arrows Bjorn! I am in the process of making some footed Surewood shaft arrows. If they are flying good I'll be hunting with them.
I think most people here has enogh experience to have a nice arrow that flies good too.Everybody knows that isn't the beauty that makes the arrow to fly properly, but the archer that take care building his nice arrows is also talented to fine tune them.Once again it is a surplus, but it is gratifying for the one that care to the details.
I'm with the Whittler and 2Knifes.
Hap
Yes, I use fancy arrows for hunting. I use plain jane arrows for target practice as they take a whipping. The fancy ones serve a purpose as the crown dipped end being white shows what kind of blood I have. They also cheer me up when I look at them during any lul in the action.
I haven't hunted with it yet, but it is one of my prettiest!

Thank you, Felix! :)
After deerhunting with these CEs, I took them on a TG squirrel hunt near Richmond. I lost one down there. They are spray paint and Testors, but they are hand crested on a vee-block and all just a hair different in the detailing. I figured they needed extra done to them because they were carbons, and don't have the life-force in them like wood. So, added attention and meditation, I guess, to put the life-juice in their carbon-fiber veins.

My wood ones usually look like this:

But not like this:

Sweet arrows there Killie!
i love pretty arrows. i never 'dress up' the synthetics (carbon) but woodies just beg to be fancified, even if done quick 'n' dirty ...

I'd put broadheads on these and hunt 'em.
