My son has taken a job working at denali from mid May to mid Sept. He is hoping to get in some black bear hunting while he is there. I am looking for someone he can talk to and get some pointers and advice from. He is a college student and has a limited budget so he cant afford a guide service. Is there any members out there that would be willing to take a little time and chat online with him and help out. As a dad I am a little nervous about sending my son out in grizzly country. I would appreciate any help.
thanks
Rick
Rick,
Give him my email, and have him do a search for "Boo Boo comes home from the taxidermist" so he has it as a way of introduction. If he is gonna work at Denali he is a bit north of the good black bear hunting. (but lots of griz). Don't sweat it, about hunting griz as a non resident he can't hunt for them anyway without a guide. I'll be happy to correspond with him. I worked at Denali Nat Park as a shuttlebus driver when I was in college so seems like we may have something in common. Duckbill@alaska.com Bill
Bill you were the first one that came to mind,Rick your boy is in good hands with Bill!
Rick,
here is the link to fish and game. Licenses are a couple of hundred bucks for blackies, I think. I'm a couple hundred miles from where he will be, but he is welcome to give me a shout if he has time.
Its a great opportunity for him and he will see some beautiful country.
If you want shoot me a pm and I'll give you my phone# and such.
