Title: The recurve and me...
Post by: Bowhunter4life on March 22, 2010, 10:26:00 PM
I started with recurves way back when, and when I finally seen the light and dropped the wheels I did so with a Widow SA III.  I'd taken my fair share of game with one curve or another, tried probably more than my fair share of different curves over the years.  But, once I owned my first longbow, recurves have definately taken a backseat.  Oh, I still buy recurves but haven't found another that I would take to the woods over my beloved longbows...

Well, this past weekend I was shooting with my youngest daughter and happened to grab the only recurve I own at present.  Now, it is a Shawnee with foam cored Arapaho limbs.  I probably haven't shot this bow more than a handful of times, and truthfully I figured I would sell the bow sooner or later for the only real reason that it is a recurve...

But, after shooting it this weekend I will probably keep this bow indefinately.  It is simply just as good a shooter as any of my other Shawnees.  I can't perceive it being any louder than the longbow limbs that could be attached to the same riser and it just keeps putting the arrow where it belongs time and time again.

We were shooting around the yard at various different things, and we were on the 7th or 8th different target and I missed it by about 2 inches.  My daughter stops in her tracks and with the most somber of looks says "What happened?"  All I could do was smile...

I can't say my longbows are going to be collecting dust from now on, but this curve will see some woods time.  Which in it of itself is really saying something with me...

The honesty of a child. Thanks for sharing Jeff.

Dude, you know it's just a tenuous relationship at best with any recurve...even a Morrison...now that you've seen the light of the longbow   :readit:

Seriously though, that's the reason I haven't picked up a sweet shooting recurve in years...for fear of backsliding.  :biglaugh:

I've found myself shooting a lot of recurves of late. I better give the longbows some more attention, wouldn't want them sulking. lol

"Backsliding" and "Sulking" that's good JC and David!     :bigsmyl:

I'll have to give the longbows a little reassurance when I'm shooting the curve.   :goldtooth:

You are lucky I have never been good with the longbow,so I don't have any problem staying with me curves.

I say everyone go to the longbow...this way there'll be plenty of cheap recurves for the picking for me.

Muwahaha...  :readit:
