Not looking for a comparative basis between members. I am just trying to guage what kind of a collection is 'normal' (Have to get the fiance used to this you know). Got my first recurve a couple weeks ago, and already have another one or two in my sights on top of that.
So, 2 questions 1) How many bows do you have in your collection
2) How many, or what % do you rotate (sell, trade, etc)?
I have 12 and wish I just had one but it's too late now!
One less than I need ! :D
or ... 3 recurves, 2 longbows.
Wish I could just stick to one, for about 2 seasons. :\\
I have much more than NORMAL.
I hope you find the more than 5 is normal so I can tell my wife. She tells me all the time she wishes I were normal.
Much admire the confidence of the guy with one bow! Own 6 hunting Hill LB's & have never sold one from my stash in 32 years.
A dozen give or take one or two - I'd have to go downstairs and count to be sure. In this context I have no idea what "normal" means.
I currently have 13. Six Pronghorn longbows, five Pronghorn recurves, a Bear Kodiak Mag, and a sweet osage static tip selfbow. I should be getting another from Herb this summer.
I have 5, 2 recurves and 3 longbows. Well one longbow is my wife's, and one of the recurves is my bowfishing rig.
My feelings reflect those of Gordy's, "one less than I need" :readit: :D
'60 Kodiak, mid '60's Pearson Rogue, Wildhorse Creek (Kestrel), Mahaska LB, that's it at the moment, but I would like some more.
7 longbows 4 recurves, I rotate with two of the longbows hunting and one for summer shooting. Three of the recurves I use for bowfishing. I don't think there is a normal. :help:
4 recurves and 1 longbow. NOT ENOUGH!!!!
But will work on that!
I'd have to agree with SS Snuffer... NOT ENOUGH! But right now I have 16
around a dozen, maybe more if I get digging around.
Getting 2 new kwik styks this week and should be finishing a selfbow soon. 15 or 16 might be more accurate but I don't keep track. They keep piling up.
Terry
5 right now 2 have wheels though.
I just counted 16 in my office at the house. And I believe there are another 33 or 35 neatly stored away at my climate controlled storage unit.
I guess this probably makes me AB-NORMAL, but i can say I have never yet sold any bow I've owned. However, I think I'm preparing to start parting with a few, just don't see much of a need in keeping this many at my age. I know I'll never shoot most of them again!
I'm not putting anything in writing that my wife can read. Hope you understand!
I keep saying I'm not adding any more but I know of 3 that are coming and I still haven't had a chance to try a "built in sting follow Hill bow".
I will be trying to do some trading soon with a Jim Johnson "Legend" that's a little heavy for my shoulder at 66" 52@27", beautiful bow and flings and arrow nicely but after about 5 shots my shoulder begs me to quit.
God bless,Mudd
5 recurves and 5 longbows. I'm liking the longbows better, but still can't seem to part with any!
I just got rid of 4 in the last two weeks. That gets me down to ten. Of course that doesn't count all the youth bows that are floating around the house or the bows my son and daughter claim as theirs. I am actually trying to start trading or selling things that I no longer use. It is a novel idea for me.
4 right now. 1 recurve, and 3 longbows. But have another Zipper on order. :goldtooth:
Bill
I think i'm up to 20...I'm sick!
Need to thin the herd might fast.
karim
I'm done, I love my current group.
2 Hills, a 60" Big Five and a 68" Cheetah
3 Widows, 2 PSR's and one TF.
More than I need, not as many as I want.
:D
I have just counted 14 at present. That would be 1 long bow, and 13 recurves. I have sold three in the last couple of months. But bought two new ( from the early 70s) recurves also in that time. I find it easy to buy them, if I find the right bow at the right price. But hard to part with the old ones.

http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u127/Ariser01/P1020583.jpg
You can never own enough bows. My last count was 6 recurves and 4 longbows
7 recurves and 2 selfbows. Man has to have backup bows for the backup bow and on and on.
My wifes says I have more bows than I could use for a week. My reply is 2 of them are right handed just in case I have to shoot a bow in each hand. Never know...
Well, If I counted wheels, I'd have 2 functional, plus a busted old darton - so 3 wheels one recurve
Honestly....if I knew nothing would ever happen to my hunting bow....I wouldn't have ordered a backup.
I have 2 with the exact same specs.
I have 12 that I am planning to keep for me, and the kids have 4 more. However, in the last 21 months, I have bought, sold, or traded away 35 more bows for me and 3 more for the kids. I think I may have the addiction under control...
4 and one more on the way. 2 long bows and 2 recurves; antoher recurve coming.
I think I'm at 27 or 28, I was going to thin the herd but I bought 2 more instead. 7 recurves, the rest longbows and a coumpound that I haven't shoot in about 3 years. I really like longbows, but I seem to shoot recurves better, don't know why, I just do. So is 21 longbows to many?????
ZERO :(
jer bear
Define Normal.
I don't think I have ever been normal, so I wouldn't know. When people ask me how many bows I have, I always say I don't know because they might think it's abnormal.
Two, a Bear Grizzly recurve and a Spirit longbow. My wife thinks it's rediculous to have more than one bow, I can only shoot one at a time, blah blah blah. How do you convince your wives that you JUST GOTTA HAVE THEM???
I really like shooting a longbow, but the low-wrist grip kills my bum wrist due to an old injury. I really want to order a custom Lost Creek with their recurve-like grip. It's for health purposes. What do you think the chances are of that idea going over???
Let me go count.... Came up with 17, just sold one, an always looking something new. LOL
Bear (12)
Ben Pearson (2)
Zipper (2)
Black Widow (1)
I think I have around 11 or 12. Still new to this so I haven't had as long to let the herd grow. Let's see: 2 Mikutas, 2 Bob lees, 2 Morrisons, 1 Sentman, 1 Big Horn, 1 JD Berry, 1 kit bow that I finished, 1 Pearson, and 1 Lost Creek. Might be a couple others but those bows come to mind. Need to sell a couple though. Love the Lost Creek and Morrisons the most. COLongbow, just order the Lost Creek. You won't be sorry. 7 of mine are longbows
ron w "So is 21 longbows to many?????" It doesn't sound like it to me but if you think so, I love shooting the long ones...lol
COLongbow, I'm sorry to hear that your Spirit bow is creating problems for you. I know I love mine.
I guess I could offer to find you a recurve to trade you for it.
I'm here to help if I can...lol
God bless,Mudd
Ha Ha! Thanks, Crotch horn!
I really like the looks of the Lost Creeks, and the testimonials on this site are glowing. The grip is the big thing for me, I need a longbow with a recurve grip. I called Chad last week, great guy to talk to! Really loves to talk trad.
As far as the wife goes, I guess you're telling me it's easier to get forgiveness than permission, huh? Got me thinkin'....is Colorado too far for you to come visit me in the hospital?
6 as of right now...soon to be 7 with the adddition of a new recurve. 3 recurves, 2 self long bows, and a compound.
-Mack
Hey Mudd,
Thanks for the offer of trade. I actually did a retrofit on my Spirit's grip. Took off the leather, glued on strips of leather belt material to build up the palm swell. Wrapped it in leather stripping and put a rubber Shur Grip over the top. Feels a lot better, really good in fact. Not pretty, but it makes my Spirit shootable for me without pain. I really like it, cocobolo dymondwood riser, goncalo alves limbs under clear glass. Chrono'd it at RMSGear and was kinda disappointed in the numbers..160 fps. Their machine might not have been accurate as it seems faster than that. One interesting thing about the Spirits is that Bryan uses a glass limb core like BW does. Says it gives the limbs stability. Not many bowyers doing that. Guess you like yours?
5 recurves and 15 longbows...I think.
I hope the wives don't see this thread!
Exactly what I was thinking Ben LOL! That is why I am going to take the 5th on this one :)
I only have 1 recurve and 1+1/2 longbow. The 1/2 is in the making.. I'm guessing the taxreturns will show if I'm getting another one this year! :p
More than I need, but not as many as I want...
2 In hand and 2 on the way. currently sticking with long bows. On the quest for the best as my friend Peckerwood would say. Take care , Randy
You guys are crazy! I have 1 (specs in sig). But its a custom and i've only been shooting trad for 3yrs so i'm still "new". Plus i'm only 27 so most of my money goes into the bank or toward my college loans.
I think that if you havent shot a bow in, lets say 3 years, then you probably wont ever shoot that bow again. To me nothing is more sad than a bow collecting dust!!!
I have 2 Black Widow recurves.
Ive sold quite a few in the last few weeks so I only have 42 right now.
2 Mohawks and another in the works. # 3 will be a 2 piece. :archer:
6 kodiak hunters
2 59 kodiaks
1 59 grizzly
6 super kodiaks
1 64 kodiak
1 57 kodiak
1 63 grizzly
1 67 grizzly
Widow PSA X
Bear Paws longbow
Morrison ILF
2 custom bows on the way!!
The bad thing is i just took up trad archery last May so i have a long time to deal with my sickness.
I have 8 custom and a few board bows I have built. I only shoot 4 of them now and guess I should sell some of the customs and give all but maybe one of the board bows away.
15 longbows and 17 recurves. It's ok though, because only 3 of the recurves are for me. The rest are for various kids that like to shoot. I did part with several longbow last year so I could buy another.
3 Longbows, 4 recurves, and a Saluki Ibex, ...for now.
Wow, ok, this gives me some ammo! I keep telling her, at least I'm not into something expensive like cars. . . . . of course then she brings up the price of hunting trips & license draws. . . .
1 PSA V
1 Boarder Black Douglas
DId I say I had ZERO currently....ha ha.
two on the way though
My ACS - don't know when
My PCH is being glued up this week.
Probably won't get it shipped up here though. Probably get it shipped to a friend in the states and save the duty. i won't get it here in time to shoot it much anyway.
I can tune it in down south. Time will tell.
Jer
I have 63 recurves and 5 longbows
8 Black Widows
10 BEARS
The rest are Ben Pearson
I have been collecting for 25 years
11 as of this moment, 1 more on the way, and when my wife asks I just say I am not sure, and ask her how many pair of shoes and how many purses she has. With that we usually both shut up and go back to respective rooms. :D
4 3 recurves, one longbow. I'm currently only shooting the longbow. Tippit, where are ya? What is it now-300? 400?! :jumper:
3-Longbows 2 Mahaskas and1-Spirit.Thinking about a BigJims,a Mohawk,aDwyer,a Blackwidow,a Shrew,aaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaa....................... If you know what I mean!!!!!!!
4 bow RER Arroyo, Bear Grizzley, Bear T/D A mag ,
Bear B riser and 5 sets of Bear T/D limbs..
2...
Only 2 longbows right now, a Foley and a ThunderStick, but there in the 50 & 52 pound range. I am now convincing myself I need also need a 40 pound bow to Loosen up with and work on my form ! sounds like a good reason to own 3 bows !
Currently 4 longbows, 2 recurves and 2 recurves on the way. I still want to add a Shrew and a Schafer to my collection.
Had 8 (3 White Wolf bows, 1 Bear Montana, 1 Robertson Vision Falcon IV, and a Black Widow PSRIII), but sold them all except my Browning that I got from my grandpa (and a wheelie)! I have a nice Howatt Hunter on loan from Dirtguy and plans to get a PSR in a year once I can put the cash together for it. At that point, I think that one bow is all I will need. I guess I am trying to live parsimoniously, like Thoreau suggests... as an English teacher and professed transcendentalist, it is import for me to at least try to practice what I preach!
3 recurves (Assenheimer, Rose Oak, and X-200) and another Assenheimer ordered!
My wife says "way too many" guess I need to get them off of the bow rack in the Bedroom :wavey:
:o
35 in immediate view...
There are more in other rooms.
I don't rotate. I may take one or two to a shoot to see if they want to get sold.
Killdeer~ cold dead fingers! :D
Hey Gene, I have one of Don Gearhart's bows, too.
They are sweet!
Killdeer :)
16 and the newest was built in 1973. Hey, they are cheaper than guns.
3 recurves, all of them Fedora 560 TD. I have everything I need and nothing I don't ;) IJ

Trade secrets for Adventerous Bowmen who are married;
"No honey, that's not a new bow, I have had that thing forever..."
Or...
"Seriously sweetie', you don't remember seeing me in the backyard shooting that bow two years ago? Remember I couldn't hit anything, so I said I was going to put it away for awhile. You still don't remember seeing it before...?"
And...
"Of course I didn't buy that bow, I don't have any money! That was my Grandfather's old recurve he gave to me before he passed away".
Follow up statement...
"No honey, none of this is new, Grandfather left me a bunch of old Archery stuff, not just numerous bows, but also arrows, books, tackle, etc. Most of it is packed away, I have been digging some of it out recently as I have been missing Gramp's".
Two and that is all I need. I do have one new one about finished. Then there is one on order due in about a year. Thinking of one more I want to try. In the end I plan to be down to three max. Maybe four, but that will be it. I still have to figure out how to pay for the one on order for next year and the one I want to try so maybe they will not happen at all, but I have some time. At least at this point I know what I like and what works for me. That keeps it to a reasonable for me limit.
More than a few. I could easily open my own shop with all that I have. I sell a couple and buy another one. I am really trying hard to get rid of some, but you guys aren't buying enough. Yeah, that's the ticket, it's all y'alls fault. If you bought more bows I wouldn't have so many. That's what I'm telling the wife-and I'm sticking to my story!!!!
I only have 8, longbows. I dont feel so guilty now.
4 Northern Mist: 2 Classics, 2 Sheltons
2 Shrews : 1 S.S. , 1 Classic Hunter
2 Robertsons : 1 Mystical , 1 Vision
Eric
I refuse to answer as it could be used against me,LOL. More than one, less than 100, how is that,LOL. Good thing you did not ask how many have I owned or I would go insane trying to figure it out,LOL.
I currently have 10 recurves and 2 longbows, but that could increase at any time. Ben
Right I am hovering around 20.A couple I will have forever..The rest are just visitors glen
I have about a dozen at this time.......I have bought and sold, gave away, and loaned out many more. I sold one I made to a coworker for next to nothing and he later sold it too. It's the only one I really miss. You didn't ask but I also have 2 five gallon buckets full of arrows.
I only own 4 and one is my daughters. I need to pick up the pace!
Maybe 20-5%-Hap
Let's see...
4 Shawnees, 3 Cougars, and 1 MOAB...
Kwyk Styk that is being traded for a Habu Death Adder, and another MOAB on order...
So, I guess that comes up to 10 total... Oh, and another set of Shawnee Dakota Carbon Foams that I need a riser for... 11???
6 total 5 longbows, one recurve
Two longbows, a Blackfeather and a Zipper SXT. Two recurves also, a Dakota Pro Hunter and very soon a Blacktail Snakebit.
I can still only shoot 'em one at a time.
Winterhawk1960
I've got 2 and one on the way.
My all-around bow is my 68" 64#@31" OL Adcock non-acs takedown. I've got a 69" HH Halfbreed on the way.
My other bow is a 64" BBO 55#@30". It's a little short for my draw, so I'm going to shave it down for my wife.
I might be the odd man here, but I'm pretty satisfied with my setup.
I've got 7recurves and 5 longbows, and I've sold about 10 others. I've heard it said a man can never have to many bows. You can always use them to trade for hunts or other things. A wall full of bows makes for great conversation!!!
I have something in the mid to high 40's with several more on order. I rarely sell a bow.
Allan
I just did a head count,I have 23 and I just sold one and have 2 loaned out.I have some 60's era recurves,a new recurve, selfbows that I made and a few custom long bows.I have one room in my house that is dedecated to nothing but my archery gear and it's wall to wall.
Oh, do we have to count the selfbows, too?? Then I have to amend my total with "way" more than a few.
Bear Grizz, Bear Kodiak Mag, 2 Silvertips for me.
I have 3 bows. 2 take-down recurves and 1 hybrid longbow.
Only 8 with 2 on the way. But they are for the grandkids after a bit of spit and polish.
So unless the GN ghost comes thru on Friday, I'm still an 8.
If I had 2 more bows with bigger tips, I could be a 10.
5 total. 3 longbows & 2 recurves
43
I have 7 recurves and one selfbow.....need a good longbow yet. Then I should be good for a week or two.......................
I found it easier to copy and paste.

Are you crazy - my wife might read this. H
I have 5 recurves; one is a T/D with two sets of limbs and 2 longbows. I would like to have two more longbows and one less recurve but I have a hard time parting with anything unless it's broken.
I've got 3 recurves and 2 longbows.

Only three that I shoot regularly, then there are two for my daughters, and a '61 Kodik, '61 Polar, '61 KS (on the way) and a local wallhanger. If I find a '61 grizzly then I will be complete. Nah, somehow they keep finding a way here. Oh yeah, also a left hand tigercat-just in case I lose my right eye.
Hi friend,
I own 12 complete Bows :
7 old Fred Bear (2 Kodiak Magnesium TD, 2 Hunter, 1 Grizzly, 1 Super Kodiak and 1 Magnum, all between 1967-1973), 2 Black Widow (1 PL3 and 1 PSAV), 1 Bob Lee Signature TD Longbow (with 2° set of recurve limbs), 1 Damon Howatt Hunter,1 Hoyt Gamemaster2 and 1 BareBow ByBerbardini Nilo Luxor.
I'm looking for a new Fastest one ... but I don't know what....
Bye from Italy.
Carlo
Ive ben In trad for about a year and only have three two recurves and one long bow .But I still own one with wheels.
2 in signature and 1 2 tracks ambush recurve on order. But I just started traditional in January!
not enough but 4 right now
50 bows right now.Don't know how that happened.Started collecting old Bears and Brownings and it got out of control.I may need a 12 step program!Have 4 longbows that I hunt(2 ACS,1 centaur and 1 JD Berry).
I have 6 at the moment, which is pretty much my normal number. I am always thinking about trading for another. Right now it's another Pronghorn.....
I have 7 for know but the day aint over yet.
I try a few, but being lefty, it's a slow process: when I find a winner, I keep it. Now I have 2 recurves and 2 longbows: I try to keep 1 of every 'kind', as different from each other as possible.
A PMA V Black Widow
A TradTech aluminum Titan w/ILF limbs
21t century 70" longbow
Abbott mild R/D Yew longbow
18 total, including 9 self bows. All in all, less than ron w. Does that make it normal?
One Wes Wallace Royal - 68 inch - 55lb and a second on order to match with different woods. I can only shoot one bow at a time.
Too many!!! 7
4 river raisin longbows 2 of them are 3 piece take downs and about 12 recurves pearsons, bear kodiak hunters
I have 9, 7 older recurves Bears and Pearsons and 2 newer longbows, a Roy Hall and a Crow Creek.
I have one bamboo backed osage bow I shoot and one heavy poundage osage bow I use for weight training, thats all.
I always have a few more selfbows in the works but they rarely stay home with me after I finish them.
I shoot my one bow very well by the way and don't want to complicate things by adding another.
I have three but really use just one
WAY too many if you ask my wife!
If I had to count it must be 30+. Might be time to "thin the herd" so to speak!
I have just ONE longbow, that's it folks.... But.... I just ordered my second...
1-recurve (northwind)
4-Longbows,widow LAG,Dwyer Defiant,Dwyer Endeavor,Super Shrew Deluxe.
38...but we're expecting

1 Longbow, (1st homemade lam bow-wallhanger only-delam)
1 with wheels-ooppp!
2 for the wife
3 for the 3 daughters

I have sold most of my bows and now have only 3. I have a 3 piece pronghorn longbow, a Lost Creek longbow, and a Tradtech black onyx riser with 2 sets of black max limbs.
I think at last count I have about a 100 bows give or take. I have about 35 Bear bows from 1953 to 1975 and always looking for more.
We should make a poll. Should make it easier to keep count on everything.

I've only got one bow suited for hunting, and then I have a lighter practice bow, one that is all fiberglass. My first bow, actually. It's not shabby at all, I've actually thought about the possibility that I COULD hunt with it. At my draw length, the poundage is definetely above 40#, I'm sure. Anyways, next month (April), I will receive 2 new bows :bigsmyl:
i've got one bow. it's a take down recurve. i have two sets of limbs for it of different weights.
i'm not the kind of guy who wants umpteen bows. i'll be happy just to shoot this one well.
i would like to make myself a selfbow though and do some primitive hunting.
11 longbows 1 recurve.
I have two recurve bows and one with training wheels but I haven't been at this very long. I definitely can understand the guys with many bows. With so many talented bowyers, so many beautiful woods and the many different weights and lengths is really a matter of what you can afford and how long you have been at it.
I have two bow's one on order about a year out. Not even close to enough I need more.
Well...let's see.

Four recurves that I shoot and one old Shakespear that is twisted that I haven't tried to straighten yet. Oh, and two of those old fiberglass youth bows that I never strung.
I'm a newby. I have one bow. I want a thousand. I need one bow. Let's not confuse want and need. Go with the want. It's more fun.
A good way to bring the new bow into the house? Santa. Christmas morn you open that misterious long gift from Santa,(it's best if some kids are present) and you, so happy and excited...Santa gave me a new bow! Fortunately looks can't kill.
TOM
I told a lady friend I had 20 or 30 bows and she burst out laughing - she has seen them. Must be some sort of denial, but I am sure its less than 100.
I didn't Know that I was suppose to count them. I think maybe 35-40.
4 Widows....not sure how many my wife's Dad has.
there is one bow in my collection. and it's a keeper.

Actually, my count changes from day to day. I added 13 more today but only one yesterday.
Is this something we need to report daily?
Jack,
You and I need to get together to discuss this over coffee :bigsmyl: You may need some help stringing all those bows up !
