Title: Killing Foam @ March Madness
Post by: Ragnarok Forge on March 20, 2010, 09:43:00 PM
Tricia and I met up with Gene Carrol a Trad Gang member and a buddy of mine named Kevin and shot some 3D today.  The weather was warm and sunny and the company was good.  I had never met Gene before.  We hit it off right away and everyone had a great time shooting together

This shot shows three of the bows being shot today.  Gene has a bear hunting trip coming up so he was shooting the bow he plans to use and did very well with it.  Gene is a good shot with that Morrison.

Not sure what the bear did or said but Tricia decided he needed to pay and put one where it counts.

This shot shows the ever present elk at 55 yards and moose at 75 yards that come up at every Chinook archers shoot.  That tomahawk came into play 7 times to retrieve arrows from trees where they ended up after missing targets completely.  I had to retrieve one of mine with it the other guilty party will remain nameless.

I drilled the elk from 55 yards and Tricia skipped one into the kill zone from 55 yards. Gene had one of his few bad shots of the day and hit some elk tail.  Tricia moved up and drilled the elk from 45 yards.

I shot the moose from 75 yards and shot over with my first shot that was aimed at the moon.  My second shot made a solid connection in the kill zone at 75 yards.  Tricia moved up and shot again from 45 yards and drilled the moose hard.

This is a shot for proof that when carbon arrows hit rocks at over 180 fps they get tatered.  Gene missed on a long downhill shot and hit some rocks buried under the topsoil. All told the hunting gods recieved 5 arrows as sacrifice today.  This should ensure that Gene's upcoming bear hunt is highly sucessful. The hunting gods are well appeased.   The best lost arrow shot of the day had to be Tricia's arrow skipping off a limb under a target and ricochetting off into oblivion.  It was still climbing as it went out of site at 60 yards.  We all had a good laugh and went on our way without bothering to look for it.

A great day was had by everyone.  Tricia had her best day of shooting ever.  Her form was good, and she hit more targets than she ever has.  Most of her shots were solid kills in the last half of the course.  She has been worried that she would not be ready for hunting season and today really boosted her confidence and ability to be ready to make her first trad kills when the time comes.

It's always great to get out and have a day of shooting, it's even better when my shooting is on and I can't miss!  Early in the day my shooting was ok, but in the afternoon I was on fire and having a great time.  I reached out a little past my comfort zone and was hitting targets from 30 and 45 yards.  Not only was I hitting the targets, I was drilling them!  Anyway...it was a great day and I got to make a couple new friends out on the course which makes it even better!

Well gang the second day of the shoot is over for us and it did not coincide with really great shooting this time.  Tricia and I both missed some targets and I sent another arrow to the huNting gods.  It looked totally awesome as it winged it's way off into the woods after skipping of a tree root.
