I have been using a Eureka family style tent for several years and have just moved up to some serious old school canvas... 21' tipi. I have a liner, floor, door and other goodies with it but just wanted to have a look and get a feel for set up. I think this is going to suite my nomadic "have bow will travel" lifestyle.
Anyone other TG's using these for travel and hunt?

Sweeeeeeeeet! Man you got just what I want. Congrats!!!!
That is you to a TEE!!
Real nice Shaun. Couple of questions. Can You haul it in a pickup? and can You set it up by Yourself?
Thanks,
bretto
so nice, a dream !
A little bulky to transport, but nice.
I prefer my 16man Kifaru for basecamp though.
Shaun, we had a teepee at my family farm for about 10-15 years while growing up. As kids, we spent more time in it than in the house. Cool in the summer, warm in the winter...5000 years of design is hard to dispute. Suits you perfectly brother. I know a few places you can pitch it when you come back down this way :readit:
Congratulations, beautiful setup you've got there.
lets see the inside
Shaun, You are the man! That tipi looks fantastic. I have never used or even been in one. How is it for keeping dry? warm? Enough room inside? Cool to see your house too. Nice Pics. Thanks for sharing.
Wow is that tall. Did you put that up by yourself?
Looks like you got the setting up part figured out quick. I have a tipi for my 'puter wallpaper. I like yours better.
They are nice. Some people set them up at some of the traditional shoots I go to.They`re pretty cool. And with that liner,it keeps it cool inside when it`s hot outside.I know you`ll injoy it.
Nice now did it come with a squaw and a pair of buffalo boxers? :archer:
My only experience with one was a visit to a guys unit during a muzzleloader hunt. It was real smoky and you had to hug the floor to breath. Something about living in a chimney didnt realy work for me. I'm sure it was a lack of operational skills, but its all I've got.
I am happy for you and that is a dream of mine.
MAY THE SPIRIT OF FRED BEAR GUIDE OUR ARROWS.
Very nice looking.
It fits you well.
Will you have it at Brads this year?
Tim
Shaun, very nice. I have camped a few times in one and loved having the open fire going. The downside to me is the long ploes and takes a bit longer to set-up for short trips. But for a long week it is the way to go, room to get up and move around and nice and dry. Thanks for sharing the pictures. Flint
I have an 18'er. We love it. I takes a rack on the truck to haul the poles and I can set mine up by myself.

Very nice!
Nice. I have wanted one for a long time...I'll get one some day. Who's the manufacture? Nomadics? Panther primitives? White Buffalo?
Yes one person can set this up - I did first try. The longest poles are close to 30'. It came with a silly long trailer but I plan to haul them on my pick up. There is a lot of room inside
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v613/shaunw/tipi003.jpg)
And a truly cosmic view looking up

Man is Skyler gonna be Jealous when he see's this!
Very cool Shaun.
Very nice Shaun

Ed
I slept in one when I was a kid with the Boy Scouts. Brings back memories. Appreciate the pix.
That is cool Shaun. Everytime sombody get a new teepee I am a darker shade of green. i aim to fix my jelous side one day, does whip have teepees?
I happy for you Shaun, hope to see it at compton or some such place.
Chuck
I have a great little hill with a flat top that would look great on top of!
that is awesome!!! i sure would love to sleep in one of those next time i am over. its been a big dream of mine since i was a rugrat.
Shaun, love the tepee  ........but do me a favor and NEVER, EVER deep fry a turkey on that back deck. :campfire:

Very, very cool, Shaun! I bet that would be just the ticket in 6" of wet Texas snow! :readit: :jumper:
How would those 30' poles look on top of your Rav4?
Now that is cool right there mate!
You will love it Shaun :D
I had mine at Mojam a couple of years ago don't now if you remember it or not. I will post some picks of it tomorrow when I get home from work.
Tracy
Nice
Just what you needed, probably more comfortable, more space, more class than the old trailer you were working on. Hope to see it in person some day soon.
That is awesome Shaun. I would say that it fits your style as well.
Shaun. When you build a rack for the poles I had a rack on the box then made an extension out of the front bumper that had an upright that looked like a hitching post. That held the tips from bouncing or turning. My poles were approx. 27 ft. Set up they are awsome.
Sure would be cool!! Does the floor mat somehow "close up" the gap at the bottom? Or is that needed for convection when having the fire?
Are you going to paint it up?
Shawn...that looks great! I'd love to have one in my backyard just to keep the neighbors smiling! They still can't figure out why a grown man still plays with bows and arrows everyday! :biglaugh:
Z - the liner closes the gap and allow circulation between outer and inner skins, floor lays over bottom lip of liner to seal.
KW - I plan to haul it to Ohio where my sister the artist lives this summer for application of symbols and such.
I like the idea of a front holder for the tips off the front bumper.
Just finished rigging storage for the poles in my unheated shop. Will take it down later today after sun has completely dried the canvas.
Very cool, good luck with it Shaun :clapper:
First one I was ever in was Whip's at the "Gig"...very, very impressive!
A fire inside your tent, that thought just boggles the mind. Very cool Shaun, would really be cool to hang out with some bowhunters in that thing with the fire going for the evening.
very nice!! I don't have a teepee but I do have a teepee tent, it's a one pole pyramid tent
Stepping out of a tipi early some morning, and going on a hunt with my bow is on my bucket list. Think about over time how many Great Plains mornings that was done. Sure would like to be part of that company some day ...
WOW THAT IS SO COOL!!!!!!!
Definitely brings back fond memories. I used one for several years to hunt out of until it got burned in a house fire. I had a little sheepherder's stove with a short length of pipe that took the smoke part way up the height of the tipi. Kept it quite warm and cozy in a couple of snow storms and some severe winter wind storms as well. There is nothing better in a strong wind. I hauled the poles on my pickup using a car-top type luggage rack bar over the cab and one of the canoe carrier racks that fits in the receiver hitch. I think Cabela's sells them.
Congradulations. Enjoy and share a few pic's now and than of the camp.
 That's great Shaun! As has been sais, suits you right down to the ground. Congratulations. Put yourself in the KY Elk Lottery and we'll giv her a workout, LOL. Look forward to seeing it after the artwork, too. Grant
Thanks for the answer!! Man that is cool. Like what was said earlier...Sittin in there with some good buds while it's blowin and snowin outside watching the fire...how cool!! Have fun Brother.
Four pages in less than 24 hours. I guess everyone has tipi envy. Me too!
Very cool

Here's my Tipi at Mojam a couple of years ago.

There is something special about sitting around inside your Tipi with a nice fire going. :campfire:
Here are a few painted up Tipi's for idea's Shaun.

Sweet!
Here's my Tipi again down in Oklahoma and it was pretty cold this weekend so I had a small fire going the whole time.
We had a bad storm blow up the first day with rain, hail and 70mph winds.
I stayed in mine through it all and could here alot of other tents ripping and blowing down but all the Tipi's stood up with no problems at all. The hail sure was loud smacking off my poles though :D
Tracy :archer:
Nice pictures Tracy. I remember your set up at MOJam - I had to have a look inside when I saw it. Believe I got some shafts and some backing strips from you that year. Thanks for the painting ideas too.
I am SOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooo jealous!
I want a big ol' tipi BAD!
I cannot convince the wife that we will not be bit by mosquitoes in there. Anybody got any ammo for me there?
One of my favorite thing to do at Compton is to visit Whip and Smiley when they have the tipi along.
Those are just cool.
Sweet!!!
Steve, When it's hot out and the sketter's are bad I just put a coffee can in the middle with a few charcoal brikets simering. The smoke keeps them away.
You can also use the bug candles because the smoke rises and keeps them from coming in the smoke hole too just like the brickets.
Tracy
I'll be set up with Whip and the other canvas crowd at Compton - come on in and visit. Maybe even have the paint work done by then.
Shaun, have any pics from Compton of your tipi and the "canvas crowd"?
Fantastic thread...even the second time I read it. Compton pic?
I think I heard you weren't supposed to use charcoal in any kind of tent? something about the toxic fumes being heavier than the air?
Indian Tipi's are not tents and are well ventalated and made for having fires in them.
With the liner on it pulls the air from the bottom of the Tipi out through the top creating a draft and it sucks the smoke and fumes up and out the smoke hole.
I have never smelled any fumes when the smoke flaps are adjusted correctly.

Hey Shawn I enjoyed our visit as you set up your Tipi this weekend. I hope you have a safe drive home.
God bless,Mudd
I don't know, do these poles make my truck look small?

Your Tipi looks great Shaun  and so does your camp. :D
It's a little different driving down the road with those long poles sticking out like that. I like all the different looks I get from people trying to figure out what they are. :dunno: :)
Tracy
Shaun,
You don't even need to take it down...bow work shop. Yellow shavings to stoke the fire and a little bear grease to help bend the tips over the fire! Great looking set up.
I've got the same set up as Whip. It will be my home away from home at SRBZ this winter...Doc
Here's a funny tipi story. A buddy of mine has one and used to go to a lot of rendevous. One weekend he and his wife and another buddy were staying in it. Mark had a piece of indoor outdoor carpet cut for the floor with a fire ring hole in it. Mark woke up during the night and saw the carpet smoldering. He got up and poured a bottle of water on it and was stamping it out with a towel or something. His wife woke up with all the commotion and helped him get it out. Well, he couldn't get back to sleep with the adrenalin pumping. Next morning Ron wakes up after sleeping through all the commotion. He sees black carpet a foot from his head and got a litlle excited wondering what happened. It was really funny to hear Mark tell the story.
Then there was the time when Ron started sawing up the spare pole the always took with them....
Shaun, it does make the rear of your truck look big! d:^)
it was cool to watch you set it up...very nice for sure...maybe one day I'll find a deal on one myself... :)
Bob
Shaun,
Very nice tipi you got. I've got a 22 footer we have had for over 20 years, and it's still going strong. No better camp for the long haul ever made. At a living history incampment we were set up at, a guy passing though asked me if I had it brought in by a chopper. He thought it came all put togeather, and I had it airlifted in. LOL
Good luck with yours, and many happy camps.
Beautiful, Shaun. Wish you'd had it when you came down to visit! Would have beat heck out of that motel room...
awesome!!!....years ago,I had a sort of half dream/thoughts/plans of taking off, finding some land and setting up a lodge like that and "going native"..lol Well,maybe...down the road...hhmmmm..
