Title: Number or lettering of limbs and risers??
Post by: Bob Morrison on March 17, 2010, 02:09:00 PM
I know a lot of guys and gals have a hard time fiquiring out our limb system. I was thinking of changing Limbs from B,C,D to short, Medium, Long for limbs. From A,B,C to short, Medium, Long. or better yet how about some suggestion on how you would like them??

Leave the risers A,B,C and number the limbs with the three lengths they make like 58/60/62, would remove any confusion of what length they make.

Aw heck Bob, took me 10 years to learn all the  riser/limb notations and corresponding lengths...now you go and change it?   :banghead:    :biglaugh:

I say keep them like they are so you won't confuse anyone with the 10,000 risers and sets of limbs already out there marked as they currently are. But then, I'm not the one who has to deal with the 100 calls a day asking how long an "A" riser "B" limb combo is...

Joe A riser B limbs 56", and I have to stop and think about it..... or  A with 56" = 56",, B with 56=58"?????

Do the lengths in order of what the limbs would be on each riser. The 58/60/62 was just an example.

I like the A B C for riser designations and short, medium and long for limb designations.  Because folks will put different length limbs on different risers, designating the limbs with a bow length, say 58 inches, etc. will be confusing, because it won't be 58 inches on a longer or shorter riser.  If you don't want to use S,M,L, you could write the actual length of the limbs, for example, 24 inches, 26 inches, 28 inches. (I'm just Guessing at those lengths.)

Hmmmmmmm.  Upon further consideration, if you want to designate bow length on the limbs, could do it by stating the range of bows a particular set of limbs make, for example, one set of limbs might be labeled 56"-60", making a 56,58 or 60-inch bow depending on which riser they're put on.  I kind of like that.  Universal and easy to understand.  If a fella has a riser of any particular length, it would be easy to figure which set of limbs to buy to get the bow length he wants.  QED. Do I win a new ILF riser for that?     :bigsmyl:

Orion, you just restated what I posted in my first post.

I second Vermonster13's idea.

Oops.  I sure did Vermonster.  I apologize.   I misread your post. Thought you were indicating individual lengths on the limbs, i.e., one number per set of limbs, rather than all three numbers on one set of limbs.  I'll have to quit speed reading.

I like the range length idea too. Let's me easily know the bow length with my A riser. Bob your bows are right there with the tops.

It would be a good idea if you were just starting out. Morrisons need no introduction, the folks that have the problem understanding the limb/riser system are usually buying second hand. One visit to the web site explains everything.

How about this because if you label a riser as a B you will then still get questions of how long is a B riser which is what you are trying to avoid.

Put the lengths on risers and limbs. Then you will only have to do the math.

If you have a 15 riser and 43 limbs you have a 58" bow.

If you are set on changing it, KYTJ's idea makes the most sense to me.

What about labelling the limbs with the shortest length bow they would make, then designating the risers +2, +4, etc?

Then you would buy a 56" set of limbs and a +2 riser to make a 58 inch bow...

Should be consistent and easy to understand.  Also leaves you room to add models later.
