hello all I was just curious to see how many people would want to camp out at lake hope campground and have a trad hunt fri,sat and sun sometime in october of this year.. they have electric hook ups and a shower house really all that you need to camp out with.. I think it would be fun to meet some of you and enjoy hunting Zaleski forest..
-
???
-
Ill keep eye on this.A little early for now but we'll see.
-
hydrasport, have you hunted there before? The reason I ask is that my buddies and I have hunted Zaleski for the past 30 years and have seen deer numbers drastically decrease. The place pretty well gets pounded. And, they are logging the life out of the place--lots of complete clear cutting. We still do some hunts there from time-to-time more for old times sake than for the deer activity. I would think KY has better places to hunt. Of course, you may have an entirely different experience. If so what would it take to get you to reveal (privately, of course,) your honey hole? ;)
-
Let me know if you decide to do this. If I can get time I may just swing by even if just to meet some people. I only live about 30 miles away from lake hope.
-
I like the Kentucky idea. Been to South Fork and enjoyed the scenery.
-
Look into the lake Vesuvios area in Larwence county area. not sure of spelling. lots of land within 10 mi.
-
I'm thinking this may be fun. I'll keep an eye open on this one :D
-
I'll keep an eye on this one myself :archer:
-
I was thinking about a camp/hunt in Wayne Nat. Forest. They allow Dispersed Camping which would be good for getting back-in away from the crowds. 200,000 acres to get lost in. I'll be following this one.
-
i was planning on taking a trip down there this fall it would be way better to have some other people to camp with not sure where to go though but i will deifinitely keep my eye on this thread
-
I would be interested. I am actually trying to sell my old house which is about 6 miles from there. So I could check on the place and keep the wife happy.
-
I've hunted the area before. We actually stayed in Lake Hope but spent most of our time hunting Tar Hollow State Forest and Sunday Creek Coal's property (maybe it was Monday Creek, I forget). Anyway the first day I was there I didn't have alot of time so I went down along the stream that flows through Zaleski and clmbed a tree for a quick sit. I saw the nicest buck I ever saw in that spot, probably only a hundred yards off the road. I'll watch this thread, but doubt I can make it as most of my vacation days are already planned for the year...Mike

I would be interested.

I have hunted there many of times but havent been hunted Zaleski in almost 7 years now. Back then during bow season it wasnt crowded at all at least where I was hunting, But like I said it has been almost 7 years I do hunt 2 other farms that are in nelsonville and thats why I havent hunted state land in a while.. anyway Im getting married the 2nd of October so that weekend is out..lol unless I could convience her to go there for the honeymoon..lol but I was thinking of either the 15th, 22nd or the 29th weekends to go.. mabye we could take a vote and see what would be the best thanks
-
Ooooooooh, no, never get married in the beginning of bow season! Hasn't anybody told you that  You'll always have an ANNIVERSARY at the same time don't forget. But seriously, congratulations and best of everything to you and your bride :wavey:
-

Tell me about it.........October 30th!!! That one is tough, but I always seem to work things out.....at least the rut doesn't start for another 5 days or so.
-
22nd seems like a good weekend.. anybody?
-
Hey, I would like to go. not solid but things look promising for me. But I could definatly let you know in like a month or two.
-
22nd sounds good to me
-
How about the 29th. I'd love to come out and spend a week hunting in Ohio during the pre-rut.
-
We are going to Shawnee this year or else I would be in. I stayed in lake Hope several times and hunted Zaleski. I saw a ton of big bucks and shot under a huge 140 class deer the first year I went. A few years ago on November 11, 12 and 13 I called in 13 bucks with grunt tube. I passed on a few small bucks within 15 yards, but couldn't get clear shots at some monsters. It is a great place to hunt.
Good luck
Gil

The last four years we have done the Ohio Trad Deer Hunt out on AEP land during the 2nd week of November. Had some close calls with good bucks. I am not sure if it will happen again this year. I'll keep an eye out to see what you all are up to. Might save my days off to do more gun hunting this year. Not sure......
-
The 22nd could work for me.
-
Hey that sounds good to me. I'm in!

Another place that you could consider is Wolf Creek Wildlife Area in Morgan County. It has over 3500 acres with food plots and Wayne National Forest around it. In all there is close to 100,000 acres to hunt. There is also a primitive campground with water. It is a real good place to hunt. I have always seen deer there. If you take St. Rt.78 south out of McConnellsville Wolf Creek is about 8-9 miles south. Also right down the road is Burr Oak State Forest with 1,000's of arces also and there is cabins you can rent or stay at the lodge. There is also a 3-D archery range you can practice on. Hope this might help.
-
Very interesting. Sounds like a good hunt. I'll be in WV that week.
-
I like the early Nov. dates as well.
-
I would like to attend; let me know when.
-
I might be up for this too.
-
Im really getting excited about this hunt comming up I bought myself a nice tent and sleeping bag and a air mattress. I plan on bringing a fish fryer and some propane tanks but so far I dont have any fish to bring..lol Its been a busy spring this year for me and havent been out alot to fish this year the lake here was flooded from all the rain this spring and they couldnt let it down until the flooding in nashville had stopped.Anyway if anyone has some fish they want to bring I think sat night we should have a deer steak and fish night. crappie, walleye and perch are my favs.I hope to bring at least some walleye up.Also I think it would be fun if you have a bow you want to trad bring it to the camp and we will have a trad blanket.I do hope this trad hunt happens Ill be there thursday night and set up camp maybe some of you that are going could help make some signs so that we can all camp close together and not be spread out all over the park.I think im more excited about this than I am about getting married on the 2nd of oct..lol hope to see yall there.. Is there any truth to the rumor that there are feral hogs in there? If so what kind of numbers are you looking at for a hog population there?
Thanks in advance!
God bless,Mudd
-
I would be interested if I can get my shift changed at work. Right now I'm scheduled to work that weekend.
-
Mudd, there amy be but in 25 years of hunting Zaleski I have never seen one or even where they had been working....Dave
-
I have seen a few pictures on ODNR website of a few shot down there.
-
Have you picked the dates yet?
-
the weekend of october 22nd or the 29th the only reason i suggested the 22nd is because im sure many of you are taking your kids out on trick or treat that weekend so lts take a vote and see
-
Either one is good for me. You guys decide and let me know. Heck I'll go both. Post a poll and see what works.
Magnus
-

-
I stay and hunt Zaleski and Wayne every year. Its tough hunting, you just have to go deep.
Mudd there are hogs there, I saw two nice ones 2 years ago and heard a bunch last year. My buddy shot a whopper last year. 280lbs gutted old huge sow.
-
You guys say when your going to be there and I'll show up. I'll be hunting the end if October thru mid November. Looking forward to meeting all of you.
Magnus

I will be at the Hunters Camp at the end of October. I always run into McArthur for the $5 shower. Cheaper than the campgrounds.
