Title: draw weight question
Post by: kmunch on March 08, 2010, 09:14:00 PM
When a bow says 50 lbs. @ 28 in. Is the draw legnth measured at the near or far side of the riser? My bow is a bob lee. I know that black widow is measured to the far side. Is that standard for the industry?

To keep it simple, I think most people, including myself, measure draw length to the back(far side) of the bow in general.

Industry standard is measured 26.25" from the deepest point of the grip. Someone who knows more about this please correct me on this if I'm wrong. But, I'm pretty sure that's the way most would agree it's done.

Yep ,what he said. Pounds could vary at your draw depending on thickness of riser.

I think some bow makers do it differently. I checked the draw weight with a 28" marked arrow and drew till the mark was at the front edge of the shelf. Of the 4 bowyers, three all agreed with the marked weight on the bow within a pound, but the 4th was consistently 2 pound light on the bow markings. To me, two pounds is enough that the bow won't be comfortable to shoot if it is 2 pounds over what is "should" be
