Well, it's been a two year process with this piece of wood. I started searching for it fall of '07 after a thread about Black and White ebony got me hooked. I eventually found this one and sent it to Bob 3/08.

Even after 2 years, plus who knows how long it had been drying before I bought it, moisture was still off the charts. This summer, probably because he was tired of hearing me call to see if it was ready, Bob decided it would never dry like in my lifetime. It was time for drastic measures....time to slice it up and hope that would speed up the drying process. A few months on top of the register of his shop heater and bingo!
The better news: Bob said he could get two risers out of it! So, besides the Shawnee I had planned on, he also built me this beautiful ILF.

Sorry for the washed out pics, its pouring down rain and I couldn't find anywhere with enough light for good shots. If UPS comes through, the Shawnee will be here tomorrow and I'll post pics of it then.
Thanks for all those guys like Leatherneck who went by the shop to take a peak and encouraged me to hang in there and not give up on this piece of wood. It was definitely worth it.
The Shawnee riser arrived today....many oh man am I blessed!

Great looking riser love the wood.
That is sharp looking. Worth the wait.
Wow that is a beautiful bow. We have only made one B&W ebony bow but it's pretty stuff.
Nice job BoB!!
Mike
Reminds me of the mottling in a Golden Eagle feather. Flat out beautiful, and unique. Congrats on your (and Bob's!) persistence and patience.
Killdeer
That is a beutiful piece of wood and has made a great riser. What are the limbs...black glass? And what are the bows specs?
I want one! bow envy... beautiful looking wood.
Now that sir is a neat looking bow...
Thanks for your kind words.
Killy, all I did was throw money in the cookie jar every month...Bob did all the hard work.
Dan, no limbs yet, just the riser for now. My number will be up soon for a set of ILF longbow limbs and I hope to have the money for them by then. The Shawnee that is coming will wear my Dakota foam/carbon 64#@27 longbow limbs.
The grain and contrast is incredible. Beautiful wood & craftsmanship. Thanks for the pics.
Eddie P.
OMG!!!! It's absolutely stunning JC!!! Now that was worth the wait. Congrats on an awesome looking riser JC.

I love wood with lots of character, which is exactly what you have there. Enjoy!
What limb color you gonna use with it
Wow JC, you got a gem there! Looks like horn, very unique wood there.
I hope to find a pair of wide banded water snake skins that will match it.
Beauty bud! Doesn't Chris S. have a pair of those skins?
JC that is stunning! Well worth the wait....can't wait to see the other riser.
Is that the JC grip. Then I'll have one! I know its been a long wait. That has bigtime WOW factor!
Wally, it's close but can't get it exact on an ILF like on the Shawnee because of the deflex in the riser.
I had that wood in my thoughts today and came on this thread and WOW! That is one pretty bow...Congrats...
JC,
You took the words right out of my mouth"Wide Band Watersnakes" those will match perfect with that beautiful riser on the ILF limbs. Good thing that riser was not on Bob's in stock page or I would be much poorer in my wallet,LOL.
Danny
Bro-
That is sweet. I bet your boy is "eyeing" those risers! Water snake skin limbs are going to look wicked!!! Man I'm jealous! The wait was well worth it!

Very, very nice. Bob strikes again!
Nice one JC.
Nice looking wood.
That is enough to make a metal-man want wood, unbelievable piece of wood. WOW
Love it!! Stunning
Wow! I've seen black and white ebony before, but that piece is in a class by itself!!
Beautiful !
Beautiful!!
LOL! :biglaugh:
The tan and black twisted with the white and black 8125 might match well with that riser!
No worries from this end JC! I'd have went that way also, in a heartbeat! Simply stunning!!!
JC, that is a unique and gorgeous pair of risers. If I order another Shawnee that would be my first choice. (although I don't think there is much of that wood available!)
Congratulations!
Where do you go about finding this wood never even seen it.
Very nice! How big was the piece of wood?
I remember when you posted the pic of that wood the first time. You did good a great bow for an incredible wood.I like ebony but this one is a claas apart.
Worth the wait I think - she's a beaut.
Jer
This is such a beautiful bow. Congratulations! Bob did a wonderful work. It must shoot good too.
You have found probably the best looking Black and White Ebony I ever seen. I am happy for you that Bob turned the best use of it and made into 2 bows.
Wow...Now that's unique.Beautiful.
Your riser is beyond words! I'm crazy about it. Don't forget to save a small sliver for a matching knife.
Thanks Curt, Chris and I are already connecting on the skins.
Ryan, you read my mind :D
Thanks again guys, it's honestly prettier than I expected...I can't wait to see the Shawnee riser (hopefully) today. I feel exceedingly blessed that God would allow me to own such beautiful things. The Bible says all good things come from Him and when I hold this one in my hand I know that is certainly true; the figure in it is beyond the capabilities of eve the finest human artist. I would never place material things above God, I'm just testifying that I sure know where they come from. :readit:
The wood isn't so hard to find in small pieces; it's very popular with the "turning" crowd for pens and bowls and such. The main problem is finding one big enough for a riser. I would check with whoever you plan on building one on how big of a piece they will need. I think this one was about 3" x 3 1/2" x 20". At the time, I found 3 that size but this one was the prettiest to me. The wood is out there, just keep looking until you find the right piece...then the hard part begins....the wait! I got mine from Westpennhardwoods.com, fantastic folks to deal with and they work really hard to get you the exact piece you are looking for. They are out of stock right now as far as I know but there are numerous sources in the US, just google exotic wood suppliers. I'll bet there are some pieces big enough out there, but Bob says he doesn't think they will be out there for long after these two risers. :biglaugh:
Wow ain't enough that is PRETTY!
That wood is sweet.
Congratulations JC- Beautiful piece of gear! I cant't wait to see it "in person." Grant
That's well worth the wait. I never saw wood like that. Very nice. Mike
JC, I remember you posting a pic of that block many many moons ago. It's been a long time coming but....my oh my what a sweet looking riser!!!
Awesome is the only word I can think of to describe it! Looking forward to seeing those in person at a GA shoot! Congrats!
Ken
JC, I believe that is the prettiest riser I've ever seen. Bring it to the shoot Saturday, I would sure like to see it.
I'm shooting one of Bob's 18" ILF risers and really do like it. I've got an extra set of winex long 36# limbs, probably pull about 48# at 28". Your welcome to borrow them till you get some to shoot.
bes looking wood I'ever seen
congrats!
Once again, one of the best looking wood for a riser.
The thing I like most about it, is that you have something unique. I always like to have something different than the fad going. It is beautiful to boot.
I DIBBS :readit: Let me know when ya send her out :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:
Thats a beautiful riser. Congrats JC
That is some beautiful wood for a riser,WOW!
"WINNER". Most unique riser award for 2010. I love the ILF J.C.
T.J.
damn TJ,don't tell me that you don't have a B&W Ebony riser?!LOL
JC that ILF is amazing. Bob is an artist there is no doubt.
TJ, I think you should sell me that old Cheyenne with Canebrakes, and build you one like this lol.
Yeah BOY!!!!
Can't wait to see that on in PERSON!!!
That is really stunning!
That's got to be one of the nicest looking risers I have seen, would love to have one like it myself!
Beautiful bow! Congrats JC!
JC,
How big was that block of wood you bought? Did Bob dry it for you?
Thanks, BowMike
Never seen wood like that. Beautiful, just beautiful.
Pics of Shawnee riser added on page 1. Thanks again for all the compliments.

Not yet Feliciano but I'm still a young man I've got time.

Tom, come on man you had to go and pick the Cheyenne.
Those have got to be the two most beautiful risers I have ever seen! I don't know if I could hunt with something that was that pretty.
WOW!!! I have no other words just WOW.
D
JC it's your turn to loan me a bow to try. LOL
Gorgeous!
You're right Dave....but I don't have anything that wouldn't explode at your 35" draw.
TJ, it's hard not to pick the Cheyenne. It is awesome. Plus I just got a Shawnee. Cheyenne seems like the next logical step in the Morrison process, well that's if I don't run across a ILF first.
JC, I like the Shawnee as well. What limb color are you going with? Are you skinning? Cottonmouth would look nice. :bigsmyl:
JC, the Shawnee is pretty too! Definately worth the wait.

Bruddah JC,
Do these colors work?
Superb!
Any wood left to have at least a toothpick made?

Beautiful bows! Bob hit a home run!
QuoteAny wood left to have at least a toothpick made?
Maybe the left over is enough make the handle of a knife?
Awesome risers JC!
That's gotta be one of the prettiest risers I've ever seen. Beautiful!
Well worth the wait JC. Bravo.
Man Joe that is definatly one of the best looking bows I have seen!!
 Just might be the nicest example of a "custom" bow that I have seen here on the gang!! Well done.
Takes my breath away. Gotta love those exotics!
I was wondering when that B&W ebony of yours would dried out and Bob get you riser built.I looked at several pieces of B&W Ebony for a riser but just never could find a good piece of B&W ebony wood.
WOW + 1 !!!!
That ILF is truley beautiful.."One of a Kind". Definately a Wide band watersnake limb bow... My question is....Are you gonna' take them hunting? :wavey:
