Fellas, just wondering if anyone else has tried this. I've heard human urine will spook deer but i've also heard it will irritate bucks so when things were a little slow last season, i made a mock scrape and gave it a try. It fooled little bucks but i never had the big one come by. What do you think?
Same results I peed up some mock scrapes off trails and set up my trail cam just had little guys come in and hit it.
I try to entice real deer to pee in scrapes, does mostly. Usually, I leave a roll of TP and a copy of Glamour magazine right next to the scrape and they will come in and pee. I tried leaving a copy of Traditional Bowhunter but it spooked 'em.
I didnt pee in the scrape but off my stand near the scrape...a 150 and a nontypical came up and seemed irritated...I dropped my binos, rattle bag, and an arrow and these deer were 10 ft from my tree and didnt spook....they seemed fixed on the foreign smell
I have tried in a scrape and same results as above "little" bucks all under 150 which to me arent little but take it for what it is
Started using my own in mock scrapes about two years ago. I met a guy at a shoot who swore by it,said deer could not tell the differance, and that he had taken a couple of mature bucks with this method, starting scrapes as early as August. These storys were backed up by several of his friends shooting with him that day. Anyway,I have not taken anything big from these scrapes, but have large tracks, probably visited at night. Have had young bucks work scrapes while I was present, don't shoot young bucks, but have taken does from these scrapes who were checking them out. Hope this helps for you. Good hunting and pee away!

Just be aware of what you drink before hand. Coffee and some other beverages can give a strong off smell. Pound the water and you're good to go.
Many years ago while my wife was six months pregnant we went scouting in late September. As pregnant women must, she had to pee at the end of the woods road where we parked the truck. The next weekend there was a fresh scrape on the spot.
I pee in scrapes whenever it's convenient, and it hasn't hurt anything as far as I can tell. I've quit being concerned about where I pee in the woods. Near a stand, I scrape back the leaves and cover it up when I'm done, because I have known deer to react negatively to a fresh deposit.
My avatar plus 7 other bucks hit this scrape the night I tried it. Also one coyote was smelling it. You cannot see it in the photo since I downsized it but there is a buck just as big as the avatar standing in the background. I have tried it since then and had some results but not like this.
All the time....
every chance I get.
have done it for years....I drink lots of water and not much coffee or alcohol during the season and it seems to help...have had does, small bucks and several large deer come in and freshen up the scrapes.......seems to work with no harm......
I peed in an active scrape this year and the buck came in fast and thoroughly irritated. He scraped at it like he was about ready to pick a fight.
I think Barry Wensel said once that he had peed on several spieces of game animals at one time or another and none were spooked..I think pee is pee and if Deer were to spook everytime they encounter pee other than there own they would have no where to turn..
Hmmmm.
I've never tried going on an active scrape but have gone on the trail in and out before never paid attention to weather it brouth any deer in cause i usually use a trail that I see little to no sign on for my entrance and exit the my blind.
Might have to try it this year.
I use a toilet...LOL but I have done it and had a response from a buck during the rut only once.
I tried it this year and the next day the scrape had been cleaned out completely, didnt seem to bother that buck at all.
Doesnt seem to bother deer!
I still dont see any deer when sit over scrapes though.
Drink swamp water and eat acorns and it REALLY works well.
Seriously, I do it all the time in my mock scrapes and the bucks work them over just fine.
i pee anywhere I want to
I pee'd in one once after almost ten days just to tell him to K.M.A. since I was out of hunting time.
human urine has no faeramones in it so it doesnt matter, its just peee.
So this means that I can leave the Attends at home? Just kidding. Years ago a compound hunter complained to the game warden that I was scaring all the deer out of the woods because I did not wear camo and I told him that I peed in a scrape. This fello put his camo in a plastic bag and then sprayed fox pee in the bag to store it in his car all week long. The stench was really over powering, he never seemed to get a shot at any deer.
I have made mock scrapes and peed in it. Not sure if they ever checked it out though. I seen some prints in the scrape, but didn't see the dirt scraped up at all. Mabey they were just curious.
arrow30, if humans(females)don't have faeramones in their urine then why am I more attracted to my wife during her rut. :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
Yes I do pee in scrapes. Have never put a trail camera up to montior it but have seen them re-worked after peeing in them.
I had a scrape once that I peed in every time I went by it. By the end of the rut it was eight feet long. I didn't have a digital camera at the time but did take some pics of it with my 60" Groves in it. No matter when I sat the stand I never saw a buck. I didn't have a trail cam at that time so didn't get any pics in the dark hours. Would have been fun to see what was going on.
I have been peeing in scrapes for as long as I can remember. I used to make fake scrapes to attract hunters away from where I wanted to hunt. However, the joke was on me. The scrapes I made and my assumption that my urine would keep them away backfired. Live and learn, I guess.
You mean you guys are using the trail cam to take pictures of yourselves peeing?? Geez! What's next?
I woulda said, "Gee whiz." ;)
Killdeer
I have had game cameras on scrapes for the last 5 years. With hundreds of photo's even during the rut the BIG boys always show up after midnight. I have lots of young deer 1 to 3 years old hit them during the day.
Urine is sterile (especially male urine...no secondary genital contact as in females) ....generally the same set of hormones are common across mammals, assuming that you get your diet in line (natural)...why not.
Female urine and other secretions work.....don't ask :knothead: particularly during ovulation.
I have done it before and 3 of us peed in a scrape when we were younger and my father in law killed a 135" 8 pt coming to check it that evening.
Thats how I start all my mock scrapes and the bucks seem to take it over. Yes it works well.
Never in a scrape but out of my treestand, just had young deer come and investigate. Might have to try the scrape thing.
Yup. It works just fine. By the way, I don't stop drinking coffee...ever! Maybe deer are attracted to Folger's ;)
You guys just drink the wrong coffee :saywhat:
Hmm, man scent scares em, man pee draws them. It sounds like the young dumb ones will fall for it and the bruisers know better. Guess you can pee if you want small bucks based on all the posts.
Wow, that is interesting. I will try it!
I have been peeing in active scrapes for years, and I think it works great.
However I only pee in them after a morning hunt, that way it is at least a few hours before a buck visits the scrape.(most of the time)
And by then it smells like ammonia.
I feel like if I pee in them in the evening hunt they could be visited too early and smell different than deer or(ammonia)pee.
I have always had good results peeing in scrapes and it is way cheaper than $12.99 per oz for deer urine.
I can put about $75.00 worth of scent on a scrape for basically free by peeing on it.
I know some on here will be skeptical and thats fine, but you should at least give it a try,I think you will be surprized at the results.
One more thing I have learned, and I learned it the hard way....LEAVE THE LICKING BRANCH ALONE,nothing will kill a scrape faster IMO than messing with the overhanging licking branch.
Good hunting.
Ken
Does a bowhunter pee in the woods?
You betcha!....been doin it for the past 20 yrs.
We don't go out of are way to hit this scrape or others but if we got to go we use them.

I drink coffee in my stands and don't very my diet during the season either. My son shot this buck in this scrape with a doe a week later.

I have hundreds of picks of this scrape with big and small bucks, does, coyotes, fox, racoon's and other critters all using it. :D
Tracy
yes i do ......when i do i will have small bucks and big bucks and does hit it i catch them all the time on my trail cam and also when im hunting works great and very cheap
I always pee in the neighbors scrapes. That's called defensive bowhunting 101. I also make lots of rubs on the opposite side of their farm from mine. Is that wrong?
KentuckyTJ, apperently its not wrong if you want your neighbor to get all the action.
I've never even thought about it. Lack of imagination I guess ;)
I pee in everyone I can. Many have been visited by bucks the next time I go by them. I think it kind of pisses of bucks when they smell the scrape when they get by them, and they really work them over.
MMM just a thought, if it works, why not pee on your boots when you leave the PU and walk to your stand. Just a thought.
Well i urinated in the corner of a bar once.
The only thing that came to it were the bouncers.
Does that count :biglaugh: :biglaugh:

Ive done it for years, Ive watched small scrapes turn into very large scrapes after doing it. Ive watched scrapes pop up shortly after peeing at a specific location as well. Remember though if you are trying to create a scrape this way to pick a location that makes sense!! (soft soil, near a scrape line or trail, clean it down to dirt, licking branch overhead etc..) I also pee out of treestands and have never had an adverse reaction. Your mileage may vary obviously.
in short, IT WORKS!
Ken, you drink to much coffee.........
You guys are great. I do not get to hunt in the rut out here . But do some of you that chase coyotes, do you think this will work on thier scratch marks ?
I have done it a few times, couldn`t tell if it made any difference, but I do know urine is attractor sometimes,
i'll tell ya what not to do, DON"T let your dogs pee in the scrapes, you will NOT see that buck again. i tried it twice.
Yes, all the time. Great results verified by game cameras. Give it a try and see.
Boy I would have never thought this would work,it just seems backwards to me. Now I'm not a fanatic about scent control but I have always watched were I pee. I have never hunted whitetail or over a scapes so thats why it just seems backwards to me but with the results you all claim I guess I just got educated.
Knew an old guy that had a BUNCH of big bow killed racks hangin on his barn wall. He said he had killed many of them during the rut, sitting all day in the stand, drinking lots of coffee and peeing off his stand whenever he could muster up enough. He was convinced the deer heard it hit the dry leaves and it sounded like another buck and they weren't frightened at all by the smell (though he was adamant about hunting the wind). This was long before the popularity of scent control, calls, mock scrapes, scents etc. His barn wall was proof enough for me not to be too concerned about where I peed. Sounds crazy, but hard to argue with the results.
OK since you asked.....
I usually carry a bottle into my stand/blind and use it to pee in. While I am walking out if there is a scrape nearby, I do freshen the scrap with a stick and pour the pee in it.

Lol, funny!! As for myself I have tried It a few different times. The 1st time It didn't pan out too well. A fairly decent 3.5 year old damn near jumped out of his skin after he smelled the ground where I peed. That was 15 years ago and I didn't try It again till last year. I peed In a few scrapes that other bucks made, never did I see them worked up. Maybe these scrapes weren't primary scrapes either. So far It hasn't proved anything positive to me yet but I may try It again. I think If your going to do It right you should have rubbers on your feet and practice the best scent control you can by not touching anything In the area you pee In. That way you know for sure he Isn't spooking from something else other then your pee.
Dan Quillian peed out of his stands all the time, and was convinced the sound of it attracted bucks. He started doing it after leaving his stand to pee in a creek, and looking up to see a big 10 point staring at him- with his bow out of reach, of course.
Man!! I wish I knew how to post pics!! :D
