Title: Rick Welch customer service/Batman Bow
Post by: Don Batten on March 09, 2010, 08:24:00 PM
Anyone who knows me,knows that I like Rick's bows, and shoot them good. I bought my first Dakota online , used on tradgang. I since have bought 3 from Rick. All good shooters. Last summer I had two bows strung up in my shop. I came home one day and It was hot (100+) and in the shop hotter. One of the bows had unstrung itself. I unstrung the other and figured I'd learned a lesson. I met Rick at the trad Ibo shoot and told him how stupid I'd been in leaving a bow strung in a hot place. This past dec while pig hunting, the other bow came apart. I emailed Rick and told him about it. I knew that the problem was my falult and never indicated that I thought that he should make it Right. Well about 3 weeks ago, Rick called me and asked me why I had'nt sent the broken bow back. I told him that I did'nt think that I needed to because I was my fault that It broke in the first place. He said " You got 2 broke bows and I stand by my s...t. send them to me." 3 days later I got a Dakota longbow in the mail. It was one that Rick had when he came down to hunt with us this past dec. I was spechless. today he called and asked if I'd gotten the bow. I said thanks and he said he was going to just make me another recurve too and send it when he got the chance. I told him that I had only bought one bow from him that broke and the other I'd bought 2nd hand, and both were my fault for leaving them strung in a hot place. He still said" naw I'll just build you another. I'm not saying he would do that  all the time, but it kinda got away with me. how can you get any better customer service than that? I'll be shooting this longbow at any 3D shoot I go to this year. I tweaked the paint job today just a tad. It's 66" 47@28 and a tac driver. I call it "BATMAN".

Cool paint Don. Are those finger grooves standard? really looks like it would be fun to shoot. Which do you like better, longbow or the recurve?

Mike, thanks, I like the Recurve and the longbow the same. 2 lbs per inch on the recurve and 3 lbs per inch on the longbow, so I guess the recurve is a bit smoother, but the both are speedy and shot right where ya look.

Curt, yeah, Rick is a cool guy and a pleasure to be around. Not quite the dry humor or deadly a shot as Marty or Biggie, but a great guy just the same. LOL DB

That looks like a copyright violation Mr. Batten I will hold off contacting marvel comics if you will post the pics of you shooting that bow in your bat cape.  :D    ;)    :p

All silliness aside...great paint job!

John, I got Tricia sewing a cape and matching speedoes now. All I need now is Bruce Wayne's bank account. LOL Don

I just got back from a Rick Welch school and hog hunt near Abilene, Texas. It was a fun time and a great learning experience. Rick is a heck of a guy and a great teacher. This story of him fixing the bows doesn't surprise me. He is that kind of fellow. He makes a good shooting bow too -- and he shoots his with deadly accuracy!!

I had a similar experience with Rick. I took his shooting school last April, and before I left ordered a 45 lb recurve. I was shooting a 40 lb curve at the school which was just right for learning his techniques. As I waited for the 45 lb bow I kept pondering a set of stronger limbs in case I have a chance at elk or big hogs and finally called Rick and ordered a set of 55 lb limbs for the same riser. Rick assured me that the new limbs would work and be interchangeable on the riser. Later I got a call from Rick and he said the 45 lb bow was ready but he had a problem with alignment of the 55 lb limbs, so was going to build a new set. However, he said he would ship the completed 45 lb bow and just put the 55 lb limbs on a new riser and ship that later. All for the original price of the 45 lb bow and the 55 lb limbs. That was unbelievably generous and really reinforced Rick as a class act for sure. BTW, I killed 2 humongous does with the 45 before the end of season in December using a razor sharp Zwickey on the end of the 35-55 Goldtips. His bows are just excellent and fun to shoot.

Haven't met Rick or owned one of his bows, but I did buy his last DVD. His advice really helped tighten up my shooting. After watching it, it really made me want to get down there and take his course. Maybe someday.......

I always enjoy the rides (and good company) to shoots that Don so generously blesses me with - but I must admit that I am now  really  looking forward to riding in his new "Batmobile" (That's bound to be coming next - isn't it?   :D  )

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, I wonder - It might be worth ($$) me wearing a cape (to some of our other friends) if it kept you from shooting quite so well, Preston -   :goldtooth:

That bow sure is going to look good on Biggie's mantel when he wins it at our shoot off....Biggie don't go no where and shoot for free.....somebody loses something when he shows up...gosh ,Don..please don't bring that bow...........Marty is not much on tournamnets..it's hard to shoot and talk on cell phone same time so he mostly gaurds the concession stand from robbers.

LOL, James - my "bird-leggs" in tights - that'd be a sight to see. That's why I hardly ever wear shorts anymore. I would probably be the oldest "boy wonder" going though - well, except for the original - LOL
