Title: Arrow holder ?
Post by: wisconsinteacher on March 09, 2010, 08:21:00 AM
How many use a plastic arrow holder on there bow for hunting?  I bought one from 3Rivers but it does not work well with Mercury nocks.  When I draw the bow, the arrow stays put and comes off the string.  So do I need an arrow holder and how do I get it to work with my GT arrows and Mercury nocks?

When I use one, I pop it off before I draw.  You don't want a real tight nock.

you don't "need" anything but a bow and arrow...if you find that you appreciate the convenience of the holder, change either the nocks, or the pressure you put on the nock as you draw...another option is to alter the holder so that it doesn't have such a powerful grip on the arrow...

lately i haven't been hunting with a holder...i had to climb down out of my treestands twice this year to get arrows...

it's a case of personal preference, like most things

Here is a picture of what I use, and I have posted it here a number of times.  Not my idea, but one of the coolest I have found!  Just a toothpick or matchstick and a rubber band.  Flick it off before you shoot- works great!

I've been using the toothpic method since Whip showed it to me, and have to say, it is FANTASTIC!!!!

Regardless of what you use, if you shoot three under, you need to disengage the holder before you start your draw, as Sean noted.
