Title: Changing from woods to carbons?
Post by: LongbowGuy83 on March 07, 2010, 09:47:00 PM
Just a quick question on arrows here. My bow is 60", 60@28 but I only draw about 25 1/2". I'm gettin about 53-54 lbs out of it. I'm shooting 50-55 woods. I was thinking about trying some carbons. What size carbons and any recommendations on brands? I know this has been covered probably a million times but I couldn't find a topic for it. Thanks guys. Your help is always appreciated.

I believe you're looking for a .600 carbon, which are perfect for lighter weights or shorter draw lengths.  Incidentally the CE .600's we carry spine at 53# when converted to wood spine, which is exactly what you're already shooting with your 50-55 woodies.

We have the CE Predator arrows and shafts here:

Carbon arrows and shafts at Braveheart Archery (http://www.braveheartarchery.us/new_page_29.htm)

The CE Heritage 150 is a great arrow but I fear to stiff for you at your draw, they convert to 65# when compared to wood spine.

I wondered who would be the first to give me a hard time. I'm not completely changing over just an experiment.

Thanks SlowBow. I guess I'm confused as I don't completely understand the whole spine thing. Still learning. On your site it says the .600's are a 20/40? Am I misunderstanding? Thanks

Oh I know you was jiveing me man. It wouldn't be a tradgang day if I didn't get picked on a bit on here. We had a guy at our Jan shoot that had almost my identical bow shooting carbons and they were like darts. My bow is fast but there was a definite difference.

Here are a few other choices, Gold Tip 35/55, CX Heritage 150's w/Brass Inserts, Arrow Dynamic Traditional Lites.

Carbons will get real stiff quick as you cut them down so if you do not like several inches of arrow sticking out and do not want a very extreme foc I'd go with the 600 spine.

I tried carbons, all kinds, I cut them long, I cut them short, I added additional weight to the front and I wasn't able to tune an arrow as well as my woods.

I went back to woods and just kept it simple.

Carbon is a means to an end. I shoot both wood and carbon off of mine. That way I can shoot two classes at the 3-D shoots    Or at leaset that's my excuse. I shoot Gold Tip 35/55's off of a 53# longbow. I haven't heard anything negative about any of the carbon shafts (Except they ain't wood)   :D
