Title: arrow fletching question
Post by: BUCKY on March 07, 2010, 11:53:00 AM
How far from the nock groove do most of you put your feather?I go 1" but I am thinking of going 1 1/4 to clear my shooting glove better. Thanks, Bucky.

for me, as close to the nock as possible, with enuf room to spare for tab or glove.

fletched arrows are not unlike missiles or aircraft and there's reason for the tail feathers be as far back as possible.

I fletch mine on the 2nd index line on a Bitz clamp.  Never really measured the distance but it gives me enough clearance for my glove.

I do the same,as far back but enough room for my fingers to grab the string.

As far back as possible without touching the feathers when placing my tab on the string. The second index mark on my Bitz jig. This will also give needed clearance for a arrow holder for a bow with low brace height.

I use the 4th (line on my bitz), I think (it's marked).  Works out for me using the cock feather as an anchor reference.

1" works well for me with tab or glove.  That is the second mark on my Bohning jig.

Did you know, if you mount your fletch to far up the shaft, that you can shoot around corners?

Jim, I read once, the further down the shaft the fletching was, it almost wants to come back to you like a boomerrang.

Dennis;
I've seen them shoot around corners, don't think I'd want one coming back at me, I don't wear armor.LOL

I shoot with taped fingers so don't have any glove clearance issues.  The fletch is as far back as a bitz jig allows it to go and i still have a little clearance from my fingers.

The further back the fletch the longer the leaver it has to work its magic through, the less fletch will be needed to work that magic.
