Title: Big Shot/ Full Shot?
Post by: Buckwheaties on March 04, 2010, 11:05:00 PM
Which to get? I'm looking at the Buffalo Big Shot and the Elk Full Shot gloves. Seems to me that the elk would stretch out more over time? The full shot only comes in Elk. Those of you that use the Buffalo Big Shot, how do you like it? Anyone have experience with both? Give me some help here/ at the price I want to make the right choice? Do the stalls stay straight after the shot or do you have to readjust?

I have a few of the Elk bigshots and love them , haven't tried the Buff. yet . Have had them for awhile now and wasn't aware that the Buff. was  any different other than leather . By the way I like your avatar , buckwheat was one of my favorites growing up . Fred

I believe that I have the Big Shot, It was 40 bucks.  Anyway I went through several gloves and wound up trying one of these. Ive had it for three years and its still in great shape. Definitely going to buy another eventually.

I don't have to adjust it at all while shooting

I prefer the big shot. Shooting here in the south, I'm more frequently sweaty than not. The fullshot soaks up a lot more sweat than the big shot and I just use a glove with the fingers cut out of it in the winter to keep my glove hand warm. While I have not worn out the stalls on any, I have destroyed the straps on two as they deteriorated from the salt from sweat. Mostly from 3D shoots and stumpin in the summertime. That may not be a problem for any guys up North, but might be something to consider in TX. Those two now have a nylon/velcro band that I've sewn in place of the leathers strap and still going strong. Still the best glove on the market, imho, just wish they built the strap out of something synthetic.

I would also recommend either buying at a place you can try the glove on, or fax them a tracing of your hand. I have found the sizes of the gloves to vary quite a bit. They tend to run on the small side too.

I've got 2 elks and a buff; I think the buffalo is worth the extra money. That leather is still pliable but feels much tougher/thicker than the elk.

2nd what JC says. I have two elk and a buff that just died after ten years hard use. Buff hide is better glove. Wrist strap finally gave out on it but if I was to replace wrist strap it would probably go another ten years.

I sure wish they would make an actual full glove for us Northern guys. The FULL GLOVE model is still short of it's name - I'd like all the fingers for cold weather. Maybe we could persuade them to give it a try if enough showed interest.

Yep.  That's what's kept me from buying a full shot to this point. Have been using Big Shots for a number of years.  The leather straps do tend to stretch out a little.  I just wish they made them with a snap instead of velcro.  Difficult to please everyone, i suppose.

I been using them for the last few years, i find i have to keep putting wax on the nylon finger stalls or they Frey quite bad, iv gone through one its buggered, but the other is going strong. its not perfect but is still one of the best gloves IMO.

Thanks guys, 3rivers has the buffalo and will allow exchange for size. A Medium, in a regular winter glove fits me snug. Is that the way I need fir the Buf glove to fit when new?

Dick, my 14 year old son uses a medium...I have average hands and the large was snug at first but broke in perfect. However, I've tried on larges that were way bigger as well as smaller than the three I have.

I love my big shot. Its 4 yrs old and still going strong. I just got another for a spare. I really don't understand the concept or idea behind the full shot.

The big shot is an excellant glove! I will agree with some of the other's, I wish they would use a differant material on the wrist strap, tend's to stretch a bit. Nylon maybe? Jason
