I'm moving to Oklahoma in July and my wife and I just closed on the house this past monday. I saw the land for the first time on saturday, and went for my first walk along the perimeter yesterday. Here is some of what I saw.

10 yards from the front porch.
A couple of outbuildings.

A pond to the east.

A hog trail my wife and I decided to follow.

More hog sign, and some deer sign too.

There they are. Ended up being 12-15 in this group. A couple of nice ones, too.

Snuck around some brush to get a little closer. This is around 80 yards away. You can't tell it, but we ended up about 15 yards from a coyote in the brush in front of us. He was watching the hogs, but eventually saw us and just walked around us, without ever running. The hogs heard a noise far off in the distance and came our way, but hung up in the brush between us. At least the wind was right for a change.

Got around 30 yards from this one before my wife made me come back. She didn't want me to spook any of them because she is going out friday morning with the gun. Wish I would've taken my bow along for the walk.
Wow! you gotta be stoked. congradulations to your wife and you. Let us know how you do in the harvest season.
Way Cool! Best Of Luck Out There!
... mike ...
Dang I need to move to were the hogs are also. :biglaugh:
That looks very interesting.
Frank
Glad you're fixed. I'm available anytime to help with the hogs. Okies don't talk much about their deer. They keep them big boys a secret! Good luck.
Pat!! Great looking place.  Gonna have to keep your wife from killin them all. I bet your pups are in Heaven.
Sweet, looks like we will be hearing some hunting stories soon.
Congratulations!! Looks real nice Pat. I'm real happy for you, Daphne will be too. Is that the place you were telling me about, last time we got together? Hope I'll get a chance to check it out first hand some time soon. :readit:
Fine lookin spread Patrick! Congrats on your move. That new bow of yours loves hogs as well. If you having trouble with it showing you how it slays hogs let me know and I'll be glad to stop buy and refresh it's memory :goldtooth:
Beautiful place! Congrats brother!!! I hope to have a chunk of land to call my own one day!
WOW!! Congrats on that!
Thanks for the kind words, everyone. I'm really psyched, and the wife and dogs are thrilled. I may be in debt the rest of my life, but at least for now I'm finally looking at the possibility of hunting on my own land rather than crowded northeast public land. Heeere piggy, piggy, piggy.
Congrat's Pat, nice looking place. :campfire:
Thats awesome Pat!
Looks like your place is bigger than our state...LOL
Good luck and don't look back Your on your way to utopia.
Great pics! Congrats and best of luck. :archer:
Looks like your hard work has paid off Patrick. :wavey:
Congrats on a fine piece of land!.

Wow Pat the place looks great!
Pat, How many acres do you have?
Looks great.
Bill

Sounds like an invite to me! Don't y'all think he was inviting us??? I think he was! What's the address again?? I think you just FORGOT to mention it....
Congratulations on a new home. =0)
What County?
PDK as a fellow NJ'er I am officially jealous. Wish I could convince my wife to move there.
Wow! Congrats and best of luck with your "little piece of heaven" :clapper:
Awesome! That's great, congrats to ya'll!
Pat, Oklahoma is OK all right. What a nice place to have, thanks for posting. You and the Mrs. are sure in for some good times. Deer, hogs, coyote, bound to be turkey and quail too. You will fit right in, I can tell. Just learn that they are "ponds" back East, and "tanks" out here in the West! Best of luck with your new home.
 :clapper:
The Night Stalker; I think the county is Pontotoc. About 1/2 hour NW of the Shiloh Ranch.
I'll miss you NJ and northeast guys, but I gotta say that I was suffocating for the last 4 years there. It'll be nice to live with my wife again. Hope you guys can get out of there soon.
JEJ; Thanks alot. It's amazing how many people out here in Oklahoma have already said that I'll fit right in. Living in NJ, I never felt that I quite fit in. Out here just about everyone hunts and fishes, so it is a pleasant change.
pdk,
Now that is an awesome little Homestead.
Welcome back to the Midwest.
Looks like you and the Mrs. just found a diamond in the rough.
I could retire peacefully and permanently with a setting like that.
Best of the wishes to you and the family.
Looks like you are going to really enjoy your new place. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Hey, this is great. Now your a Sooner.
How about a little wager?
If you win, I get to visit Oklahoma on a 2 day hunt.
If I win, You get to visit Nebraska on a 2 day hunt.
Nov. 23, 2012, Huskers vs. Sonners in Norman.
Looks real nice Pat, Congratulations!
PDK, take up another hobby. Arrowhead hunting. If you got water on your place look for points on the ground.
By the way your place looks like a piece of heaven. Good for you and your bride.
Hey Pat, sounds like the testing and pain has paid off- wish you well in your new endeavors. Keep your nose in the wind.
You might get some ducks on that pond. I have a couple of labs if you need them.
Bill
Pat you and I both dont fit in here! Ever wonder why we got weird looks going into the wawa? HAHAHA
Damn fine property bud! You let me know and laura and I will make the trip to hang tree stands and do whatever work needs to be done! I know she wont let me go hunting without her but i really can't complain. just means I get to buy a new bow for myself umm I mean her!

Dont do it Pat, its a trap!!!
Looking foreward to hangin out with you again man. The bowfishing is already looking good for the year!
Congratulations Pat!!
Nothing like owning your own hunting ground, never have to ask for permission to hunt again, or worry about landowner changing his mind or selling. I find it is a lot easier to get out for a quick hunt when you only have to walk out your back door.
Buying property was one of the smartest things I have done.
Enjoy,
Mark
Wow thats great, looks too be a bow hunting haven, beautiful, best of luck too you and your new place.
Whoa. Congrats!!
Hey Pat, Looks like you'll be liv'in it up soon. Congrats and good luck. Remember, pace yourself, don't wipe the place out in the first week.
"Enjoy" buddy, hope to shoot with you one last time before you head to your new home.
Jerry
Beautiful.Need a house guest for a long weekend?
 Congratulations, of course I am slightly biased
Rusty
Hey Gerry. From the reports that I'm getting from my wife, I dont think that it would be possible to wipe the place out. That doesn't mean that I wont try, though. ;) Gonna try to get to the Whittingham shoot for a day, as long as my schedule allows it.
Izzy; We may need a tune-up before we go to OZ.
Rusty; Where are you at in OK. I know a fair bit of the state, but I have a pretty strong preference for the southeast portion of the state. Speaking of the usual terrain, that is.
Good to see hard work pay off! I wish you and your wife many years of bliss on that wonderful piece of the Earth. Yes... do look for points! Lot of history under your feet.
Killdeer
Hey Pat, that looks great! Wish you best of luck. Stay in touch.

Hope you and your family get many good times there!
